Believe it or not, December happens to be prime planting time for native plants in SoCal! If you’re looking for an incredible species for native, low water landscapes, 𝘽𝙚𝙧𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙨 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙞, also known as Nevin’s barberry, is a great choice! Tony is excited to share an update with you about our very own Nevin's barberry plant, located in our California Gardenscapes. You may remember when we highlighted this plant earlier in the year when it was incredibly showy with flowers and produced a huge crop of fruit, some of which we collected. Listen as Tony shares what’s new with this native plant!

It bothers me that native plants are promoted for wildlife habitat but yet aren’t available in nurseries and stores in plant sections. If the goal is to promote natives in the garden then make them generally available to the public. This is a monopoly practice of having to go to native plant sales or speciality nurseries to buy these plants. Plus having to be a member to have first access to native plants sales for the first hour of the sale. Let’s stop these practices .
