Yo!!! Tony Atlas is a natural funny and great spirited person !!! I can listen to his life stories all day. Everyone should here him talk about the life of wrestling 🤼 . Pure genius and amazing . These interviews should have millions of views and likes.
I just bought tony's book and I must say it's a great easy read and a must have for any fan of this show!!!! Go buy the book people!!!! Best 20 bucks I ever spent and I did dope for years lol
When I first saw Tony it was in Georgia Championship Wrestling, I believe, and he wore a mask and went by the name Black Atlas. You never see any of those old matches anymore, I cant find any of them on youtube.
Tony's outlook on the N-word might be the most honest and sensible I've ever heard. It's a shame more African Americans today don't agree. Taking a horrible word that was intended to degrade an entire community or race of people and adopting it as cultural slang doesn't change the impact of the word. The N-word to me is worse than the F word or any other vulgarity and shouldn't be used by any race of people for any reason.
Tony is a real cool guy ...great story teller. Is a business of bullshiters (triple h, hbk ric flair....) This guy is real tough because he aint scared to make fun of himself and he doesnt always put himself over...he is a secure guy Long live tony
I love Tony Atlas. This is one of the best wrestling interviews I have seen. Tony has so many great stories. When I was a kid in the 1970's he was one of my very favorite wrestlers.
The African-American actor Tony mentions - Woody Strode - appears in the beginning of one of the greatest western movies movies ever made (and one of my all time fave Sergio Leone movies): Once Upon a Time in the West. Tony is the man!!! Awesome show as always!
Race and Atlas both legends Harley had an acident in the early 60's that tragically killed his wifē and unborn child and almost cost him his lēg as well and a bad acident in 95 that lead to his retirement
TONY REMINDS ME OF A MATCH WHERE A WRESTLER WAS SELLING AN INJURED RIGHT ARM AND 5 MINUTES LATER FORGOT AND SOLD THE LEFT ARM BY ACCIDENT AND THE ANNOUNCERS CHANGED THE SUBJECT, AND I REWINDED THE TAPE 10 TIMES AND WAS LAUGHING AT IT.😂😂😂
12:13 - I'm glad that Tony cleared up that rumor that Andre The Giant feared Haku/Harley Race because I don't believe it either. I mean, what are you going to do to someone that can FLIP over a CAR!?
NO ONE IN WRESTLING EVER COULD BEAT [ ANDRE] IN A RING!!!! I READ THE ( GUN) COMMENT!! A GUN IS NOT AN ATHLETIC COMPETITION!!!! BESIDES HARLEY RACE, COWBOY BILL WATTS, AND ANDRE THE GIANT. [ imho] ANDRE WAS TOUGHEST MAN EVER IN WRESTLING, HARLEY RACE, COWBOY BILL WATTS, COME IN AT A TIE FOR 2ND TOUGHEST WRESTLER AND TONY ATLAS COMES IN AT 3RD TOUGHEST MAN ALONG WITH BRUNO SAMARTINO[RIP] THE REASON THE IRON SHEIK HATES ANDRE [ RIP] IS BECAUSE IRON SHEIK WAS HURTING THE JOBBERS AND ANDRE DECIDED TO GIVE IRON SHEIK A TASTE OF HIS OWN MEDICINE AND MAN HANDLED SHEIK AND MADE HIM FEEL PAIN!!! SHEIK CAN CALL THE GIANT ALL THE NAMES UNDER THE SUN, BUT THE TRUTH IS, ANDRE ABUSED THE IRON SHEIK IN THE RING AND NO WRESTLER EVER COULD OR EVER WILL BE MORE DOMINANT IN A RING!!!! THAT IS WHY ANDRE THE GIANT IS ONE OF THE WONDERS OF THE WORLD. (RIP)
I would love to see a debate with Tony and a new generation guy on the show, Would be entertaining because of Tony’s passion for the business. As always Tony is Money!
16:00 PREACH!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 As a black man I have long since taken that vile word out of my vocabulary because like I’ve said, if someone punches you in the nose, you don’t look to see what the person looks like before deciding whether it hurts or not..
The funks against Harley and yes the gyms weren’t there and watched Harley for years he was a big man . Saw him the last years he worked at the woodland dog race track in Kansas City,KS head of security. Scary dude .
Being in construction and sitting in a car for 4-5 hours a day. During the ride in and especially the ride home. Stopping at the store and grabbing a 12 or 18-pack usually, four guys per car.
Interesting interview. This is a podcast, not 60 minutes, so let the man have his food during his interviews. He loved Harley Race, and even Donald Trump.
So-o-o True!, regarding Harley being One tough SoB!,,,,,I seen him get a Trash can Squashed over his head @ MLG in Toronto back in the '70s!,,,this was a Real Can! made w/ like 70 gauge Aluminum!!, and He barely Flinched!,,,,,the Only other guy that was just as Tough, a-n-d wasn't from Samoa or Tonga,,,,,,was Billy Jack at a Match in Oregon w/ a Heel(I forget his Name), and He was hitting the Guy w/ Clenched fist's, and getting hit w/ the same!, for Real!,, So many Legend's were the Real Deal,,,,,Mr. Wonderful, Thesz, Gottch, Haku, Barbarian, etc,. were just a few!,,,,,,I remember seeing Hammer Valentine beat the living Shit out of Dino Bravo when I was a Kid,,,,,Bravo was left in Shock, a Bloody mess!. Nowadays, Wrestler's Cry for getting Chopped too hard!,,,,I'm so glad that I at least got to see the Great's! in my time!,,,,,wrestling today is a joke!,,,,,I'd rather find some Gem's from the Past! on RU-vid than bother watching today's Product!,,,,a-n-y Day!. Thank's for Uploading Great shit like this to watch!!!
I agree with Tony..IC champ and Hart Foundation member.. doesn't compare to what Austin (I quit match) and S. Michaels (big feud..on and off screen)Bret took off after that
@@jasonmorgan951 Bret gave Austin a rub to elevate him to the next level. Bret's stock was already high at the time which is what they needed for Austin to be taken seriously. They put him up against an established main eventer (Bret) to start Austin's push. Austin never went over on Bret bit he didn't need to because he had already gotten the rub from him to springboard to the next level and beyond. Austin is prohaps the biggest star of the attitude era but it all started with Bret.
I have to STRONGLY disagree with Atlas about Bret Hart. Bret didn't start getting over until late summer 91 when he won the IC title from Mr.Perfect & he REALLY started getting over after he beat Ric Flair for the WWF Championship in 1992
They said everyone that wrestled backlund had to wrestle 60 minutes. I always thought any championship match should be at least 30 minutes but they can't go 30 to 60 minutes today. Austin was a great wrestler in WCW.
@@kevinkelly1529 nooo silly goose you have to comprehend what im saying before you be a Nazi.. You are not smart enough to pull the then vs than rule in a youtube comments section. I feel sorry for people who waste their time trying to correct others mistake rather their own. A one word youtube comment can say a lot about one lil menial person.
Face palm. And by that I mean the palm of Dan's hand should be over Tony's face to keep him from burying himself with his own ignorance. But still gotta love Tony. He seems like a good, kindhearted person. But his facts are ..... what they are, lol.
His comments about Hart and HHH are hilarious. Vince built Bret, but not HHH? HHH needed Shawn Michaels friendship and to a lesser degree The Kliq to help him get over. His association with the Montreal Screwjob helped him get over as well as taking the heat, even though he shouldn't have been the fall guy for something that he wasn't totally responsible, the infamous Curtain Call incident, when Hall, Nash and Michaels joined him in the ring breaking kayfabe. Two of them were heels and the other two were babyfaces, but I forgot who was on each side, with regards to babyfaces and heels back then. I'm guessing Nash and Michaels were the babyfaces, while Trips and the Bad Guy were the heels at that time, but I don't know for sure, so if anyone remembers that, feel free to add to the comments.
i love the big brother Tony Atlas, but i think he's wrong about Bret Hart - you should see Bret's matches with Rick Steamboat BEFORE he ever won the Intercontinental Title, his match with Roddy Piper at Wrestlemania for the Intercontinental Title, his matches with Curt Hennig defending the Intercontinental Title, his match with Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania, the famous "Iron Man Match" which is a classic - his matches against The British Bulldogs as a member of The Hart Foundation, all of these classic bouts were before he ever stepped into the ring against Steve Austin ...
If memory serves right, Bret only had one single match with Ricky, right down the road from us at the Boston Garden. Bret was a made man and had several WrestleMania main events under his belt before his feud with Austin.
That's right Andre was in his prime so that means Andre could help Harley race get him up for a body slam and he also weighed a lot less when Harley body-slammed him so when to Hogan finally body slam him he ripped everything in his back because he really had the body slam Andre who at this time was about 200 pounds heavier so I think it means a lot more that Hogan body slam him
I disagree friend. When Hogan first slammed Andre in 1980 (??) Both men were in good enough condition so that it was far easier than when it occurred in 87. Now make no mistake about it, body slamming Andre is an astounding feat period. We know it's scripted, yadda, yadda..... but when Harley slammed Andre consider that he is much smaller, (weight and stature) which means he exerted more effort than Hogan by far. JB
Sorry Tony, but Bret had the most revolutionary matches.. Piper, Bulldog, Mr. Perfect, Diesel (table spot), Taker said he had his best matches. Austin said he learned from Bret Hart on how to pace a match properly. Bret kept telling Austin to slow down. The I Quit match was Bret's idea for all the spots. HHH killed the business when he became champ in 2003. Tell. Mr. Atlas he knows alot, but he's completely wrong on Bret and Austin.
Did he just say he was called the N-word by all kinds of people and then turn around and say that if you let people call you that you don’t respect yourself?
Tony is a hypocrite of sorts . He also states he never had friends in wrestling they were just business associates in one video. Then you'll find him call JYD in another video his best friend. SD Jones his best friend and numerous other wrestlers his friend including Tommy Rich . Either he's a hypocrite or he is developing alzheimers.
Atlas wrong about Austin elevating Bret he got that shit backwards just like saying HHH made himself, ether that dementia kicking in or he feeling out a job application.
Actually, Hogan was a heel the first time he slammed Andre. Andre was in much better condition at the time compared to WrestleMania III. There was roughly a seven year time difference. Oh and the Bret Hart argument is bs.
I love Tony but he has the Bret Hart and Austin thing flip flopped....lol....Bret Hart was the one that took austin to the next level.....Austin has said so himself lol....Bret had been a main eventer since 92
