Dearest Mr Stritch, I never knew you’d arranged this!!!!! It’s INCREDIBLE!!! You were so smart to include a couple of songs from Mama’s favourite musical, but the cherry on top for me were those bars from Over The Rainbow subtly brought in at the end of Sondheim’s tune, and how “not while I’m around” is made to sound exactly like “why oh why can’t I”? It gives me goosebumps and brings a tear to my eye EVERY TIME. Thanks ever so much! 💓
Liza wasn't lyin' when she said Lorna was a great singer during some interview. I had no idea. Lorna's voice reminds me of Ethel Merman. Liza's my favorite singer of all time.
How wonderful, Liza and Lorna together! Both great, lovely arrangement, how on Earth they were able to keep singing when the quote from 'Over The Rainbow' played I don't know? I was in tears, instantly. Amazing. XXX
I'm sure Judy would be proud of both of them. They've both had their struggles, and they have a close relationship that any two sisters would love to have.
IMPO, they're equally good! Lorna can hold a note better and keep it in key longer, but, Liza has a lot of power behind her voice.. just a spectacular performance from both ladies, their mother and father (well fathers, that is) would be very very proud of them!
I love these two women. Yes, they are Judy's daughters, and she would be proud of this performance and their great harmonies, but they are definitely their own individual talents that shine brightly. Liza is definitely a legend. Lorna should be recognized more for her voice, but she is an entertaining writer and great Mother...something het Mama would definitely approve of.
Listen Liza is an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy Golden Globe, and Tony award winner. 4 Tony's!!!! Lorna has an Emmy and I think a golden Globe. There is more talent between these two women that 99% of the so called stars of today. If you don't like them go elsewhere on You-Tube.
I love them both ... they are truly Judy's daughters who are a breath of fresh air when they sing together. Today performers are no where close to these two Divas. {{{ Bravo Garland Sisters Bravo!!! }}}
Which career-wise was unfortunate. She sounds great here, but just five years or so later her voice went downhill. As did Liza's just a couple years later. Unfortunately it didn't stop either of them from performing!
so beautiful! Both have been gifted with their mothers amazing talent! They are (w/ their mother) in A League of Their Own w/their powerful and tremendous Voice's I love them amazing women in my eyes Judy Garland voice is &will always be the very best! God rest her precious soul!
Phenomenal performance is so great transforming lucky listener to a rare zone in entertainment, mama would be so proud seeing this captivating Liza/Lorna splendid tour-de-force...Bravo Liza & Lorna, so amazing!
Their voices blend and harmonize so well in this video. I wish they would record an album together (and include the song "Sisters) before either or both completely lose their singing ability (they are already, in 2013, not very able to sing anymore).
Priceless appearance by the Ultimate "Sisters" and mama would be so proud...takes my breath away seeing Liza & Lorna together and what a tour-de-force...Bravo Liza & Lorna and thanks for such a special treat!!!
I think Lorna went in a different direction that Liza who obviously made it her career, but Lorna could sing right there too. Someone said Judy's voice is 50% there and I agree.
Liza has the febrile intensity and charisma of her mother and the ability to act out a song. I don’t know if Lorna has that. To connect with an audience and become a star depends on having that extra emotional quality, not just technical ability.
Lorna... Didn't get the opportunities to create her own Unique Persona in television, Broadway and Movies..like Liza. It's difficult to know for sure. Liza was the Oldest..her Father was the Famous Vincent Minnelli. She was a young adult When Judy was still Alive & declining. Lorna and brother Joey were considerably younger and maybe Lost out.
What a shame that people made them LIVE in their MaMa's shadow. They were awesome talents in their OWN rights!!!!!! You can not beat their HARMONY!!!!!
Sussette Bjorklund Liza did not live in her mom’s shadow. Liza is an icon in her own right. Cabaret cemented Liza as a superstar and she’s always been her own person. As for Lorna, she had talent but no star power charisma. She did her thing tho and happily became a spokesperson for her mother’s legacy.
Well... when your mother is literally one of the top 5 legends of all time... you don't really have a choice lol. When your parent is that big, seldom will their children reach the same type of legendary status... so I guess it just comes with the territory. But, they are both very awesome in their own right. And their mother was awesome and died at a young age... I'm sure it warms their hearts to know that we still love their mother and them! ……….And though Liza didn't reach the legendary status of her mother, no body can say she isn't her own superstar...no one. Liza is damn near a legend herself... but of course, no like her mama. Judy Garland is the 20th century, a star that bright cast an even bigger shadow... it would be damn near impossible to step out of that... I don't think ppl made them live in her shadow per se; they just really had no choice. But they seemed to be all very loving towards each other.
Awww I love Liza and Lorna! Great sister performance 🎭. Love the sisterly harmonies. I love the way they move together. I didn't know Lorna had as great of moves like Liza.
Beautiful! *You know, Lorna is brilliant too, but she just hasn't had the vehicles Liza's had, hence the opportunities. I love them both and this is priceless! Thanks so much for posting!!!
My grandmother loved Judy and Liza....I remember seeing Lorna in Grease II ....This really ties a bow on the gifts that this family has given to America and the world for all of these generations. Thanks fo this post.
Wow!!! She taught them how to deliver a song. It was beautiful. My mother was a big fan of Judy Garland's and so am I. Like most people she touched our hearts and she made you root for her. They are talented and though I have always felt that Lorna sings like her Mom alot, you can see Judy in Liza alot also. They both are very talented. I have always wished they would do a tour together and just celebrate their legacy and their own talents. My heart goes out to all three of Judy' children and I pray they all find peace and joy in their lives and careers. At the end of the song i could hear Judy Garland tell them, "alright, take your bow." This was lovely.
WOW!!!! this must be a dream, this can't be real. Liza and Lorna together doing an AWESOME act together!! you know their mother was watching from Heaven and cheering them on !!! the whole thing made me smile then brought me to tears because it ended too soon! They need to consider doing a stage show on Broadway based on this excerpt!
What's even more interesting to me than their singing (which is great of course) is how Liza gestures toward Lorna. She looks at Lorna EXACTLY like Judy looked at her when they were singing at the Palladium when she was very young. She inherited more of her personality DNA than just the voice, for sure.
Judy Garland had to be smiling down on them. They definitely made her proud and she'd have loved to see the performers they became. And their voices blended together so well in this performance!
Wonderful! I wish I had watched more of the Tony Award shows back then, but I was in the Film/TV biz, and was all wrapped up in them! I Did manage to tape about 30 years of Oscar shows, though! ^^X^^
