my dad worked for silver hill pit which was a notts pit . He was a deputy . and silverhill didnt strike, we had to have police meet us from school everyday,, had to have 2 outside our house when my dad was on nights .women tried attacking my mum when she picked us up from school and our horses where let out onto a bust road. i was 6 years old at the time and 10 years later when i went to the miners welfare to a under 18s disco was heckled and called a "scab" by the locals from our village, very tense times, I admire my dad so much now that im older i never really appriciated the stress he was under at the time ,Hes 80 years old now and still in really good health. Its so sad that the pits had to close ,deep down i never really thought they would actually do it.
