It's 20 years since Labour swept to power in a landslide victory, winning the largest parliamentary majority since the Second World War. But, this year, the party is facing predictions of an historic electoral defeat.
Tony Blair has sat down with Sky's Adam Boulton to discuss the highs and lows of his time at Number 10, and his thoughts on the Labour Party's future.

People who were not born or who were too young to remember his election victory in 1997 will never understand just what a breath of fresh air Blair was as PM after the grey, sleaze dominated last years of John Major.

Yes, he said "no more sleaze" and enough people believed it to give him a big win. Obviously his definition of "sleaze" didn't include Number 10 generated sexed-up dossiers on Weapons of Mass Destruction which cost the lives of nearly a million people - and a certain David Kelly. Yesterdays man - thank God. More a breath of putrid flesh really.

I do respect Blair despite his mistakes, and believe he did feel that he acted from the right place, in what he genuinely understood as the national interest. A shame the degree to which he and more importantly the overall period of Labour government has been pretty wholly vilified.

I think he did have a good heart and thought he was doing the best thing for the nation, but it was a massive misjudgement and it has irrevocably tarnished his legacy. He did some good stuff with New Labour, especially in his first term and a bit, but sadly it will always be overshadowed by Iraq.

On the morning of the Good Friday Agreement SF took the agreement to their parliamentary party who ratified their agreement to it. SF signed up to it that day. It was the Unionists (Jeffrey Donaldson) who stormed out of castle buildings that morning and refused to sign it. The DUP opposed it, it was Trimble and the UUP who got it over the line for unionists. Blair has a way of colouring reality to suit his narrative depending on who he's speaking to.

Let's remind ourselves what we have from the most selfish politician of all, Tony Blair: 1. The rise of I.S. as a result of interference in the Middle East. 2. The illegal war in Iraq. No chemical weapons. 3. The attempt to lead Britain into the Euro currency. 4. The decision to open up Britain's borders to unlimited EU migration. This was done to erode British identity, making it much easier to create the European superstate. 5. Selling of the U.K.'s gold reserves at $200.00 an ounce. 6. The suspected assassination of Dr. David Kelly. Whatever Tony Blair says we should to do the opposite.

The UK simply does not have a sufficient budget to fund a capable, well equipped and strong defence force. So, if the US says we're going to war with Iraq, no PM can decline politically supporting them regardless of the "people's will", or what UK voters think. The PM (and the UK for that matter) has to support the US in case the UK gets in to overseas trouble which requires military intervention, and will therefore require reciprocal US military support. "The UK's defence policy is the US". So it's both ignorant and unfair blaming Blair. He didn't have a choice. He acted in the best long terms interests of the British people. If he had listened to people and taken the "alternative choice" and declined to support the US, then this would have posed dire consequences for UK's national security. No PM at the time and in his position, under advise of the collective UK security services would have a choice except to support the US. He as a PM is elected to make decisions, and made the best one available to him to protect the interests of the UK. We can't have a referendum to allow the "people to decide" (who themselves may be ill informed or uninformed) every time a major decision needs to be made, that's why we have a PM.

The 'demon eyes' poster that the Tories used for the 1997 election seemed laughable at the time, but now it's depiction of Tony Blair doesn't seem that far from the truth. A new version of New Labour? No thanks Tony. I'm voting for Jeremy.

well, the tories voted for the war so, self made prophecy? infact May is using Corbyns reluctance to jump into any war as a weakness.

While Tony Blair and New Labour did indeed improve this country, they made a right mess of things that can still be seen today. Many of the Tory polices that the current Labour government hate were put in to place as a result of Tony Blair's Labour. Record levels of unemployment, record levels of people relying on the state, healthcare system destroyed, educational system simplified (this was a poor way to bring up the nations maths and English results, which resulted in UK school leavers under Blair and Brown having some of the lowest skills in the developed world resulting in record levels of youth unemployment throughout the 2000s), etc, etc. Pretty much what the Tory party are hated for today is the result of Tony Blair.

Agreed. I like the way he moved Labour from the fringes to the centre. And he decided the best way to be part of Europe was to lead it and shape your vision for it.

A leader who started out with massive promise ultimately not delivered. A man who will forever go down in political history as one of the great disappointments of our time. A national embarresment. And, it seems, in some people's eyes a potential war criminal. Any views this individual may have can be safely ignored. There is no credibility.
