It's been one year since the New York Rangers placed Tony DeAngelo on waivers with the purpose of removing him from the team, reportedly caused by an altercation he had with Alexandar Georgiev.

Tony D is great on offense and sucks at D. There was one sequence as a Ranger that I will never forget. O player has the puck behind the net. Tony picks him up, chases him into the corner and then halfway to the point, totally harassing him with his stick the entire time. Then the O player hits the breaks. What does Tony do? He hits the breaks and suddenly becomes a spectator. The O player makes a pass and the puck is in the net. I couldn't believe my eyes. He was all over the guy from behind the net, into the corner and halfway to the point and then just stopped and gave him 3-4 ft of room to make a pass. Why? Because he sucks at D. End of story.

I'm a big Ranger fan . DeAngelo , from what I read and hear about him , is a cancer in the lockeroom . HE is a loose cannon. Harmony on the team is more important than stats.

He's not a cancer. Georgiev is not necessarily beloved. You don't think that the Canes Brass didn't talk to Jesper Fast and Brady Skjei before they brought in a player with a 'reputation'. No way they sign him if those guys say he was a cancer. Carolina wasn't desperate for talent. They have a good group. They added him because they found out he wasn't a cancer

A) The stolen puck was debugged. B) Carolina vs NY was notable cause they WERE PLAYING FOR FIRST PLACE! C) There is about as much new information in here as “water is wet” D) NY jettisoned him because they favored Adam Fox. Look at the three weeks before that. E) The teams passed on him cause they knew they could get him for cheaper

Yes to all Except D. Yes that was true but Fox was already the Golden boy and he and Trouba were ahead of him in the pecking order. It was the emergence of K'Andre Miller that pushed DeAngelo back to a 3rd pair Defenseman. Also why take his 2nd year at % mil when you could get him this year for $1M.

Personally, I think what Georgiev did was messed up. But you shouldn’t say that to your own goalie, if I was Georgiev I would’ve chuckled and said “score a goal” and walk away. Lmao.

DeAngelo can play defence. He played on the power play with Panarin and Zibby. That's why he had so many points. Same reason Kreider has 50 something goals.

Why was it "messed up"? He took a swing at a guy. How many teammates have we seen clobber each other at a practice? Violence is part of the game. Besides, DeAngelo has a LOOOOOONG track record of being a garbage human being (and he clearly only pays for himself). We can't just look at it in a vacuum.

It was a really weak goal that Georgiev gave up after an atrocious giveaway by DeAngelo. Not a lot of mustard on the Crosby shot that snuck between Alex’s legs. Neither player had much to be proud about and Alex as he skated off had his head down so he obviously wasn’t feeling good about himself. It’s like Tony with his remark putting all the blame on him was wrong. He was in part responsible too and he should have kept his mouth shut and I agree with you that you leave your goalie alone in such circumstance.

DeAngelo was caught out on the ice for a ridiculously long shift (one of the bad things about 3 on 3, the team with the puck can circle for half an hour and you can't go for a change) and was going to be able to clear the puck when Georgiev got back there and misplayed it. That lead to the goal. DeAngelo was gassed and frustrated. DeAngelo came into camp ready to play his off side (left defense) with Trouba and 1 day in Quinn decided that K'Andre Miller was going to play with Trouba and scrapped Tony D. down to the 3rd pair. He then benched him like a rookie for an undisciplined penalty in the season opener (when the whole team made mistakes) and since DeAngelo is an emotional player, turned him into a liability instead of an asset. He already knew he was on thin ice with Quinn and now he looked really bad on that play due to Georgiev getting in the way. Had Quinn known how to handle his players instead of his rules for Vets and rules for others (DeAngelo who after signing a great contract obviously thought he was in the 1st camp) they would have had a better year and not had to buy him out. Likely would have gotten a good player or draft pick for him at the deadline last season or this off season. Quinn was inept and the Rangers have proven that by Gallant taking roughly the same team to an easy playoff berth and DeAngelo doing great for a 1st place team.

Yeah that whole “unwritten rule” of don’t criticize the goalie has always been stupid. Bad players deserve to be called out, especially if their play can single handedly determine the outcome of a game.

i think 99& of times the goaltender isnt the fault a goal is scored. often its turned over or the defensive isnt there. And if a player is bad, which some are, you talk to him like a human with calm.

Not right after the game when you aren’t even in the locker room yet and the entire team is hot….. you are correct to an extent but players should definitely show some amount of respect especially to their teammates weather their bad or not that’s a recipe for terrible locker room chemistry

So all prior cr@p and the warnings from Quinn, Gorton and JD notwithstanding? No, sorry. If it was because of his political views they would have traded him over the summer or they would have buried this and traded him afterwards. I think that's much more likely than trying to ascribe this to his views, which by the way is shared by enough of a portion of the fan base to be considered substantial. The fans didn't clamor for him being traded, ever, so no pressure on management.

I liked DeAngelo as a player. Loved him with the Rangers. I am a fellow Jersey Italian. Plus I agree with his politics, not his racist past. Having said that he is a complete douche as a teammate and it is only a matter of time when he gets banished from Carolina or some other team. He can’t control himself.

I think that it was A Stupid Move By Jeff Gorton and is likely One Of The Main Reasons He Got Fired. First, JG Signs Tony DeAngelo, and, then Let's Him Sit It Out. This is Hockey. Gorton got fired because dolan treated the rangers like he does the knicks, he meddled in the team affairs. Dolan has left the rangers fo their own devices for the majority of the time hes owned the rangers. This time he was mad the rangers didnt make the playoffs in the 21 season. Dolan thought the rebuild should have been over.

I loved him when he had that great season for us I am glad his $4.75M is coming of the books I am glad all the other bad contracts are coming off the books. I wish him the best but never against us. We will have the money to sign all the guys we got at the deadline except for Braun plus Johnny Hockey plus a legitimate 2C center in the off season Kopp is a 3C guy on a championship team Mott a 4C guy Strome and Chytle are gone Touba could be gone great game by Kappo let’s see how he doe’s against the big teams and in the playoffs Laffy is going to be fine. I too never saw 50 from Krides because he just seemed to push for his full potential he would get hot for two weeks than cold for two months than not for one month than cold for two I think he must have promised the front office a more consistent game and effort before signing his extension that is why his game will continue to translate as he gets older and loses that speed because he will never lose that strength which is another of his super power

It’s not “just” that about TDA. He’s got a history. As a canes fan, I was skeptical. Now he owns the point total for a defenseman in franchise history, so I can’t be too mad about it. Especially at the pay he’s getting. He also has no problem being a physical presence.

So Glad Gerogiev won his sixth straight game is really increasing his stock as a chip but makes no sense to trade him to save a $1M bucks Nameth saves 2.5M we could about $30M in cap space next year to get our business done Kappo 2.5 three deadline guys $10M Johnny hockey $9.5M We trade Touba the following year to pay for Miller and Seniader

Nemeth saves money if you trade him. Who is taking him? Georgiev will be at $3 million next year. NYR can't afford that for a backup goalie next year. If they over him a qualifier then they HAVE to trade him to stay under the cap. They couldn't afford to sign Johnny Hockey if he took $7.5 so forget $10.
