Tony Hawk is the consigliere of skateboarding and an icon of pop culture. He's got more than a dozen X-Games medals, was named the top vert skater every year from 1984 to 1996, and boasts one of the most commercially and critically successful video-game franchises of all time, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. But how is he with spicy food? Find out as The Birdman makes his triumphant return to Hot Ones and takes on not only the wings of death, but also the brand-new Hot Ones Hot Pockets-now available nationwide. Along the way, he discusses the evolution of skate slang, tales from the grommet come-up, and the Space Jam follow-up that almost was.

A lot of sports have their legends but if you asked me who's the biggest legend of any sport it has to be the man "Tony Hawk" and the sport "Skateboarding". What other sport has one person had such an impact... maybe Michael Jordan in Basketball but Nike marketing him to people has a lot to do with that. Tony Hawk never had a brand like that pushing him.

It's amazing the longevity that Tony Hawk has had. He's around 11 years older than me, but I remember being a very young kid and skateboarding and he was a pro then. And then all he has accomplished, and given back to skateboarding. Even after I stopped skateboarding 20+ years ago is around when THPS and those games came out. I played most of them endlessly. He is someone I very much looked up to, and he was a good role model for younger skateboarders to have all these decades up til this very day. He's our Michael Jordan. An absolute living legend. Much love and respect to Tony Hawk.

Love what he said about never being too old. When I was 13 my Step-Dad rolled over my skateboard with his motorcycle (one of many passive aggressive things he would do.) I haven't skated since. No doubts whatsoever ☑️ a couple of my sons are still skating-purely for joy, both a bit older than you! And neither were ever near (!) pros. I grew up just behind The Iconic Tony Hawk. In Boise, we all went to like 2 houses; where the very cool parents, drained their pools, & just let whatever happened in their backyards, “stay in their backyards.” 😉 Tony was/is our IDOL ❤ And Sean; can’t even fathom that this episode has given me a craving for a “Spicy Hot Pocket!” W. T. H.?!? Genius. 👍🏽🌶️ A ‘pocket’ hasn’t crossed my lips for decades! Would really love to see like a Thai/veggie version… Could become my go-to, fast food 😋

Tony Hawk rules. I've been skating for 23 years and when I was a kid, I thought Tony Hawk was corny because he was the "mainstream" skater, despite the irony of me starting skating after playing THPS 1. Tony came to my junior high around 1987-1988 (Oak Crest) to give us a pep talk. I remember how chill and down to earth he was. He must have only been pro for a couple years at that time. He was telling us to stay in school, stay away from drugs, and dare to dream. I'm glad he's made a name for himself in the history books.

As a kid born in the '80s and growing though the '90s i can honestly say that Tony Hawk is one of the most legendary icons in the history of sports, on par with Michael Jordan etc. Im from Greece and skateboarding was never a big thing here, but if you saw someone skating in the '90s and 00's and asked why they started skating, their answer would be 100% "because of Tony Hawk". Ansolute LEGEND

Tony Hawk is just the perfect example for anyone who cares about something deeply. If you're into knitting or drone racing, be the champion for your passion like he is. Even if it fails to take off, you have that mentality of taking your passion to others. I think hes a model example for the pinnacle of human achievement and general humbleness, as long as they wont destroy him, send him to the aliens as an example of what a human can be.

I'm 74. I first started skate boarding in Seattle as early as 1963. We stole the trucks/wheels off of the roller skates at the local skating rink. There were no skateboard shops or parks. We primarily went for speed down hills. I broke a finger once during a local competition held in a parking lot. My trick was a 360 spin on the rear wheels then I fell. We once got pulled over by the local police for speeding down a hill. He used his lights to pull us over, but since we didn't have brakes, we had to just let it run out at the bottom of the hill. We were not looked at very favorably back then. In the early 70s, in Palo Alto, we once again started boarding. With the new wheels it was into empty swimming pools that had been drained. Everyone built their own boards, I still have mine in solid oak, flat.

Outside of seeing him in person at X Games, i was lucky enough to see him at SeaTac airport one morning during COVID. My gf at the time saw a guy with a skateboard and said “who does he think he is? Tony Hawk?” I looked at her with my eyes bulging and said “that IS Tony Hawk!” I didn’t want to bother him though. No one else in the terminal seemed to realize. So I just waited until he walked past me and said Good morning Tony. He gave me dueces and even with the mask on his eyes showed he was smiling. One of the best moments of my life.

I've loved Tony Hawk since I was a kid in 1998 skating almost every day.. don't skate at all anymore though I can still probably do a kickflip if given a few minutes. He's always struck me as a very kind person and I don't think skateboarding could have had a better "household name" representative. I believe Tony Hawk IS the reason kids these days have "so much access...foam pits etc" as he said.
