Skateboarding is such a good sport for teaching endurance, persistence and dealing with frustration. Many things in life is like learning a new trick. I love that skateboarding is becoming accessible for many that don't have a spot to practice.

It's also a clean drinking water desert. Almost a third of the 170,000 ppl residing there do not have access to clean drinking water. It's great Tony Hawk can help bring positive change for recreational sports to the area hopefully he can also help bring attention & progress to the more critical issues these children face.
@fiverx2159

Or, and this is a crazy idea. Maybe don’t expect an organization that builds skate parks for kids to solve 100 000 people’s clean water problem. There might be other groups for that
@shannon222ish
@shannon222ish Год назад
@@fiverx2159 Right that was so silly of me to think he might be able to use his celebrity & an organization big enough & well funded enough to build skateparks for kids to mention anything about these children they're trying to help not having access to clean drinking water. Omg so outrageous lmfao
@shannon222ish
@shannon222ish Год назад
@oceanspirit. They're not plumed for water supply. It's not just that it's not clean enough it's that there isn't any. That's a fantastic idea though if ever they can get anything piped out there. It was basically a move by the state & government way back when to make life on the reservations & Native lands out there so uninhabitable that tribes would leave & give up their lands. It's a corrupt prob. that goes way back.

I met Tony Hawk many years ago when I worked at the Polinsky Center for Children in San Diego. He's from that area, and he would come out at different times to share with the kids. He'd bring copies of his games, skateboards, gear, etc., and spend time with the kids. I appreciate his humanitarianism, and now that I work at Grand Canyon South Rim, I'm even more impressed with the man. He's tireless and full of love for his fellow man.

There's so much more we should be doing for these people to right the wrongs of the past. The longer these deeds go undone, the more these wrongs remain a part of the present. Not just renaming sports teams and building skate parks, but so much more, but, hey, it's still moving in the right direction, and it still hits me square in the feels to see this.
@EsotericOccultist
@EsotericOccultist Год назад
@@Josh_Noble Wrong for multiple reasons. Firstly history was all about conquest and war. Natives fought over land constantly. Is anyone saying they owe each other for the things they did to each other? White people are the only group of people guilt tripped about their past. They're the only group that everyone expects them to answer for their past. It's because people are butthurt that white people excelled at conquest and did a better job at it. My second point is that the contributions white people have made to society more than makeup for any perceived grievances from the past. Natives get to use electricity and cars and computers and two story buildings and indoor plumbing and life saving medical technology they would never have access to if they had never encountered white people. Their life spans are longer now and there's actually more of them now than prior to first contact with white people. This whole thing about people owing other groups because their ancestors were better at conquest is bullcrap racist jealousy of white people. If anything a "thank you for all this incredible technology" march or parade is in order.

I was driving through the reservation on vacation and came across the skatepark. Being from CA, I keep my board on me 24/7. Was such a privilege to skate the park, considering it’s location. Met some local native kids, exchanged some tips and was on my way to historical native sites from there. Always cool to exchange culture with the navajo / Hopi tribes. Was shocked to see the skatepark there, but it really made the trip for me.

If there is a water supply problem use air nets, rain collection, and well water only if it's safe. These kids need help if this is the case.

Any creative outlet is extremely positive for the youth. Give them a place to practice it, and they'll be motivated to stay out of trouble. Skateboarding also grants the release of stress, which is great for mental health. It is a great test of perseverance and serves as a form of goal-setting. There's a global community and an awesome culture behind it. And it's lots of fun as well. For some of us, it's a lifelong thing. Even during periods when skaters can't skate, I guarantee you they are day-dreaming about it. Tony, we have lots to thank you for.
