Currently starring in Ang Lee's movie, "Lust, Caution". Leading man in movies with beautiful actresses. This interview was for Tony Leung's role in the movie, "2046".
crazy how this interview was about 15 years ago. he was gorgeous then and is gorgeous now, and more than that, he is extremely intelligent and a profoundly skilled actor.
He couldn't afford to go to high school and quit school at age 15. It was only after he became an actor that he had the money to hire tutors and take private classes. So make the best of it if you are able to attend high schools and colleges!
I grew up in Hong Kong and I've never watched Tony Leung speaking in English. His fluency and pronunciation are really good!!! He dropped out from school after completing his junior high school and he must have dedicated loads of effort to learn the language!
hello , mr leung did not need to win in cannes - his time was for there - when mr john wu carried mr chow out that was meant as the kung fu moved on to gun fights. his roles was to tell local small for outside. he is his muse to tell their lives. his direction is small stories - wished the word 'player' of his character was not used. elle for ferry late
Tony has never studied outside of Hong Kong. In fact, he didn't even have a chance to go to college. He takes learning seriously. He spent time and effort to learn Chinese history and the English language. This is what you get when you study hard,
True.. I thought the same way too. His voice seems deeper whenever he speaks english. But no matter what languages he speaks, tony leung always steals attention 😊
I fell in love with him in 2001 after watching Chungking Express (1994) Have seen only about half a dozen of his films but they've all been great, seeing him again in Shang Chi has just re-egnited my love and I'm now determined to go back and watch more of his old films.
He's so adorable. Definitely my favorite Asian actor. I would love to see him in a mainstream Hollywood film. I mean just look at him! And the accolades he had been given for his acting!
His english is very good. I heard Tony is very introverted in real life. Very low key person. He and Chow Yun Fat are pretty humble people. I really like Chow alot too.
Oh my God ,he speaks English well and he is very charismatic! I grew up in Hong Kong and its the first time i hear Tony speak English. It's very intriguing. He expresses himself with ease.
Tony Leong Definitely Make Asian Proud. Not only he Is A Super Good Actor , He Is Humble and Down to Earth Person. We Can See He is So Relax When answering questions. And On Top Of that , He Can Speak Very Well English. Salute him.👍👍👍
He is such a gentle man. So calm and contained. He is so charismatic in movies.. I have seen very few people with this kind of prodigy as well as demeanor.
Now ask an American actor speak Chinese in an interview. Lol but honestly I didn’t know he spoke English this well. In most of his movies where he spoke English. He had a very strong accent. But now I realized that it was part of his acting.
Tony Leung hired personal tutor for English learning. He said in an interview that Cheung Kok Wing told him he had to master English as he might need to spead English in future for promoting his fiim when they attend "Canne " for the movie "Happy together".
Tony is known to be a very well read individual and an actor with great depth. Even during his private times he never ceases to further educate himself.
He's such an amazing actor and I love the hint of a British accent. ^^ I remember watching him in old TVB period dramas. Anyone else find his smile charming?
I have been watching Mrs. Leung's filmography in my childhood since my dad introduced me to Chinese action and kung fu films. Now since the Shang Chi trailer just released, I had never suspected that he was very fluent in English and this interview proved otherwise. He will be great as the Mandarin :)
omg, i've literally been watching this man since i was born, all my life on my parent's chinese channels and now he's speaking ENGLISH! it's like my whole world is upside down
@@disappearintothesea before 1997 Hong Kong was under British rule. If you think about the past 150 years, their education, culture, economy, and practically their way of life was heavily influenced by the Brits. Hence, I see pre-1997 Hong Kongers speaking English as perfect British Hong Kong English 😇
Tony Leung is my first Chinese favourite actor ...I’m so happy he won Best Actor...but I haven’t seen the movie yet...congratulations ! Thnx for this video ..👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️❤️❤️🥂🥂🥂
Tony Leung!! this guy is timeless!! I can't recall a sucky movie from him, all I've seen were awesome! I am a little annoyed that the interviewer didn't know anything about the movie. If he was interviewing Samuel L. Jackson, there'd be a screaming fit.
I've always known about this man as a kid, as my parents use to watch him in HK Cinema. But now, the more research I do on him, the more intrigued and impressed I am of this man!
i love tony.. he's so talented. He and the rest of the five tigers were such a big hit in the chinese movie industry. I've been watching his work for over 20 years
Here because of youtube algorithm.(maybe due to the trailer haha) Not really surprised his english is gd as hk is english educated but suprised that his accent is quite native.
I love your movies since I was a baby. My favorite one is "The Grand Canal". I love your acting and I believe that God will bless you and your wife with lots of children. Amen!!!
Watching this and then watching interviews he's done for Shang-Chi you can see he's more confident in his English but at the same time still as subtle when he speaks like in this interview.
He's better off in HK. Hollywood always ruins guys like him. Look at what they did to Chow Yun Fat who is an even bigger star or what roles they're giving to Mads Mikkelsen? Absolute disgrace. Hollywood always treats foreign stars like shit.
Such humility. Very soulful performance even as a villain. *spoiler alert for those yet to watch Shang-chi* I felt sorrow and regret in the eyes of Wenwu when he died. A short few seconds scene but he put so much emotion into it.
