Classic clip of the master box player, Tony MacMahon from Clare. Sonny Brogan is named at the beginning of the clip as the major influence on this (then) 17 year-old musician. The presenter is Ciarán Mac Mathúna - the Irish broadcaster and music collector who died in 2009 (thanks mcnamc1).

@brendantheprettygood It seems that this clip has been removed from youtube repeatedly and I'm guessing that it's because of copyright and TM. I'm hoping this one will survive for a bit longer if I don't use the full name or tags. It's too good a clip to not have available, especially for study by box players! So what did you think of the clip?

This great man, Joe Cooley, Charlie Harris, Conor Keane and many others do justice for the C#D style of accordion playing!!

Isn't it nice to hear a sweet player,no rasping, tearing or mullicking, just an expert at work at his ease.

How far this great man has come over the years, out of all the Castle Kelly tunes heard Tony just plays it how it should be played. But when paired up with Noel Hill, well that's another story..

A couple of wonderful reel's here played effortlessly by the great Tony MacMahon, lovely switch between tunes. Turf fire music in an old thatch cottage, warm friends united in story dance and song, what better way to lock a cold world outside?

Interesting keys the first in C and the second in Aminor. Nowadays fiddlers etc would do them in D and Emin. So was he up and down the C row on a B/C box? Very nioce to see this old archival clip

So smooth! I've heard these tunes played alot but he gives them a whole different feel.

Very enjoyable but from face alone, I can't tell if he's playing a jaunty tune or watching East Enders.

At 40 seconds in you can see that his Paolo Soprani accordion is missing the fingerboard cover! The grille is also shrouded by some kind of thin screen. I wonder if this is one of Cooley's old boxes?

So many musicians and singers got their first broadcast outings through Ciaran Mac Mathuna who sadly never moved far beyond Limerick or Clare thus depriving many others the same opportunity

@dchamps321 Sorry I don't have more info about the clip - an older Irish person might recognise the presenter or the show which I believe was on RTE. I only re-uploaded it when it disappeared from elsewhere!
