We don’t have very good thrift stores here, IMO. Atleast in anchorage or the valley. It’s mostly junk from Walmart, Fred Meyers’s, target and Amazon. None of the really neat antiques and vintage stuff in the lower 48 stores.

The Fossil hand bags are very high at Good Will or even Value Village in Anchorage. They are priced between $40-$50. I try and find them at garage sales instead.
@sofloflipper

Garage sales are always the best bargain. Thrift stores are all about what they missed or don't know in back. One of the little crossbody bags I picked up in AK sells for about $80 and I think I paid 6 or 7 dollars at Value Village. But I love selling Fossil bags too!

Sorry but the shoes are not all $9.99 at that store. You can find plenty in the $30-$100 range they. They are so overpriced on so many things it’s ridiculous. You really have to hunt for the items that they don’t know the value of and get yourself a few gems. Cool to see a picker shopping in Alaska though. Don’t see videos of pickers/resellers in Alaska.

A hunting we will go.... you'd be surprised how many shoes are $30 plus here in South Florida too. Lot's or crazy prices, but I still find the gems especially in areas they are unfamiliar like art and vintage lucite....just a few areas I've been lucky and they usually aren't experts on and it slips through at low prices

I think maybe the Alaskans like to tour Mexico and they bring home souvenirs that end up being donated. I wonder if Mexicans like to tour Alaska and then their souvenirs are in their hometown Goodwill ?

I think the Mexican food is so bad in Alaska, that Alaskans have to travel to Mexico to get some good authentic Mexican food.

@annettedonaldson268 Месяц назад
@@sofloflipper I think that is a very sad judgmental comment. We are in dark & cold for many months out of the year, many have timeshares or plan destinations vacations throughout the year to find some reprieve during our winter months. We have many great Mexican options available and have a large population here that would seem your comment false.

How much were the squishmallows? $6-8, I'm guessing. They're from Target. That's my there were multiples if new. This is my local store, and they get lots of Target items. At that price, there is zero money to make. Shipping from here is very expensive. I'm a reseller, and I do well, but I can't buy the same items to sell as you do because my overhead is higher between our high store prices and shipping costs. I don't pick up resale items at Goodwill often.
@sofloflipper
@sofloflipper 2 месяца назад
What about items under 2 lbs. using USPS Ground Advantage? I ship to AK, HI, and Puerto Rico at the same cost as to CA, from FL.
@erinowens
@erinowens 2 месяца назад
@@sofloflipper shipping out isn't the same. Ground Advantage is usually what I use. It's normally the cheapest option except media mail (which is the same cost everywhere). But if I spend $6 on a plush that sells for $15, where's the profit? After fees, shipping materials, and shipping cost, I'll lose money. If a buyer is willing to pay say $20 shipped for an item, the seller in the lower 48 will always make more $ because their shipping cost is less.

I live in Anchorage and I'm all about finding books at thriftstores. Have gone to Bishop's Attic on Gambell for years, their books are .25 each and for a few years they were.10. Occasionally I'd score good ones and I like to donate them. I used to save up good ones that I thought Title Wave used books would take in trade for credit. I occasionally go to the Northern Lights Value Village on Tuesdays when it's 30% off for people 55+. The books there are super expensive for a thrift store, $3.99 / $4.99 each! (Plus one free for every 4 you buy) I only get ones I can't bear to leave though. I have limited space for books so don't allow myself to go often. Looking for books is just my hobby. I don't have a vehicle and use the bus so don't get too much at a time either. Books are heavy....But still a thrill.

I do agree. I'm not too sentimental so sometimes I just keeps things I like for a while, enjoy them, and then sell them when I've had my fill. Isn't that the best thing about being a reseller, we get to borrow from our own inventory. Gotta love it!

To transport delicate items, I copy what the Hawaiians did with the candles we bought that were very delicate. They wrapped first in small-bubble bubble-wrap, then covered that in the fat-bubble bubble-wrap. Then they went in a box, where I surrounded them with crushed newspaper. There was not one chip on any of the candles.
@sofloflipper
@sofloflipper 2 месяца назад
That's great, and funny thing, that's exactly how I pack my glass, although before the small bubble wrap I wrap in paper because bubble wrap can catch on things. Good to hear about your candles, I bet they are beautiful. I'm going to Hawaii in 2025
