Norm's tip at 06:20 about 1-finger-molar-space is a complete game changer for me! Until I started mindfully incorporating it, I wasn't able to get past my passaggio without straining and blasting lots of air through my vocal chords. Thank you! :)

I was so inspired by this video. It completely changed my technique and I feel so much better! I was so anxious to begin with, plus tired as could be afterwards, and always disappointed! I tried to use the pointers in this video and felt better the same day. It’s been about a year and I found the joy of making music again because the strain and pain are gone! Thank you, Living Opera!

Thank you for your valuable time to share your experience, It seems to me that when proper appoggio is established singing becomes natural production and a simple process.

First of all, I just found you in the Torino Korngold video! YOU’RE WONDERFUL! I really love your technique and your artistry. Also, I’m from Houston and am singing in the opera chorus here, so if you’re ever in town, I’d LOVE to meet you! I find that panting between vowels helps to bring balance to the onset. I do: Same note: 2x pant /i/ 2x pant /e/ 2x /a/ 2x /o/ 2x /u/ (last vowel on five note scale). Love these videos!!

Found this after seeing you’ll be artist in residence at my Alma mater! This hits home as too much pressure has always been an issue for me. I love the idea of singing before the inhale feels like it’s anything substantial, almost catching it before the body is aware enough to start its habit. Looking forward to checking more if these out. Check out my whistling!!

If I close my eyes it's like getting vocal advice from Matthew McConaughey 's cousin. I like it.

Wonderful teaching style and enjoyable exercises, I do find though that when I go back to singing, the over-compression (which naturally takes more air pressure to overcome) takes over - could you possibly do a video on keeping the required compression but reducing it without ‘breaking apart’ - I know there’s a balance between compression and air pressure, but I’ve ended up with too much of both! Any advice would be much appreciated

Dear Norman, your videos about all those issues in singing techniques are fantastic! They REALLY help!! Would it be possible to have more specification about the RELEASING part of the breathing ! I have the feeling that many of us, do have, when it comes concretely to the act of :releasing", a slight difference in the way it is done ..á slight difference, which makes then a big difference for what comes after😄 ...This might be also why your singing with a simple piano, ( the ultimat test) unlike so many famous singers today, sounds really free and so beautiful!!

Just relax your abs amd they'll do the job of taking in air for you. You can do this exercise:instant burst of air through purse lips 2x a sec.you'll not even realise you take in air.
