this is on my top 5 favorite Tool songs. They sound so relaxed but on point at the same time, Adam´s guitar is so rich with so many textures, and a ton of soul.
couldn't agree more. When I first got the album, pneuma and descending were my favorites. It took a while for people to come around, and not many are aware now...but this one and T3mpest are my current favorites from Fear Innoculum
@@isopropyltoxicity you're a fucking moron. Maynard is an amazing vocalist with great range and a diverse sound. Carey is one of the greatest drummers ever. Chancellor and Jones are on another level when it comes to composing. I despise people that think top-tier is only for technically sound guitar shredders. Those guys often can't create an emotional connection with their audience. Enter Chancellor and Jones, who achieve this better than most. Composition and creativity is everything, and theirs is TOP-TIER.
Literally every track to me is something I enjoy from start to end. The mood, the soul, everything Tool has offered has been nothing short of a miracle to music.
So much this. I hate to use that but it's true. I was in love with Pneuma and Fear Inoculum for a long time. Didn't really get Descending or Invincible at all. Sat down one day, got blazed, and just listened to them with no distractions and I've been mainlining them likes its my morning coffee.
I lost my husband in 2017. Tool was a huge part of our 25 years together. I've had this record since it came out but haven't been able to bear listening to it. Thank you for fixing it so I didn't have to hear it alone. It was worth the wait.
I resonate with your reaction. I’ve been a Tool fan since 1993 and I am used to the “experience” of their songs- turn the lights off and POOF, disappear into theater of the mind. But Descending totally transcends even those experiences. It’s like they cracked the code to every aspect of mental stimulation with this recording. If you close your eyes to this song, you will transcend mind and body and exists only in the ether. Once I saw you close your eyes I thought to myself “Oh, he’s gone, but now he gets it”.
Saw Tool live last month, and after hearing this song performed live, it’s now my favorite Tool song ever. It hit on so many different emotions. Like you said, it was an audio drug.
This is my favorite song from Fear Inoculum. What a trip. Danny drumming in the slowly growing instrumental section towards the end is so incredibly creative, the endless motion of accents is mindblowing. I play drums for over 25 years but this is another world for me. It took me some time to understand what he's doing there. This is a masterpiece.
Between this and 7empest are my favorites. This goes from start to finish. 7empest drops like 4 minutes in! In all fairness....it never stops for the next 11minutes😂
Being a life long Pink Floyd fan since the 70's- was almost natural becoming a tool fan with there use of sonics, the atmosphere they create, the pen, the tones, the emotion, and nothing feels rushed like Floyd. Absolutely love Tool. Floyd, Tool, and Black Sabbath are my bands.
I really love how you listen to the song in its entirety and don't stop it every five seconds and talk BS like so many other channels. You immerse yourself in the music and then give us your two cents, how it should be! Good job you earned a sub from me my man!
@@SeanStaxxMusic Until you get a large enough following and hit view counts or piss off the wrong person. I prefer it this way too, but I understand that some reactors have to pause it all the time. It's either video goes down or they pause it a lot. We're getting lucky right now I think. ;)
This is a piece of music genius. It’s intense, beautiful and brilliant. I feel like the world disappears when this is on. I would suggest Invincible also. Another song that will take you somewhere else.
It really sounds like you will enjoy the more technical, atmospheric, and cerebral side of TOOL. Fear Innoculum excels at this (Invincible next), however going back to anything on Lateralus seems right up your alley!
Tool's was the first live concert I have ever gone to as an adult (I was 33) and I must say - it set the bar really damn high. it was June 2019 and they played two songs from the album before it was released. One was Invincible, the other was this one here. It was so good, that to this day I can't really remember much from that moment, other than it felt like I have been hypnotized and was just sitting there tripping balls with my jaw dropped the entire song. The only thing I'm sure of is that I heard Justin's riff and nothing made sense anymore.
You poor bastard. You have peaked. Nothing will live up to that... other than more TOOL. I saw them live for the 3rd time a few months ago... first time in 10 years... and just drifted for two hours. it was a religious experience.
This is my fave Tool song right now, and I've been into them from the early days, today is my 60th birthday! So what a great gift, to find your reaction to this song today!!
Yes!!! Dude, this is the song I tell every “reactor” to listen to!!! Your reaction was great.. spot on!! I wait for everyone’s ears to hear that gong and bass… you nailed it brother!! Listen to Wings for Marie next. Before listening to it, read about the lead singers mother.. who name is Judith Marie. Those lyrics are awesome
Dude! Your reaction to this masterpiece was spot on. When this album dropped after 13 years I declared it my favorite TOOL music. The band's progression is such a great character arc because they believe in every album as it drops. Each album, with its own personality, expresses the soul of the group through the stages of life.
Hey @Sean Staxx; all of the members of Tool are still alive and kicking. In fact, they just finished up a European tour not that long ago; a month or so ago maybe. True legends and creative monsters! Maynard James Keenan - Vocals (1990-Present) Adam Jones - Guitar (1990-Present) Danny "the octopus" Carey - Drums (1990-Present) Justin Chancellor - Bass (1995-Present) Paul D'Amour was their original bassist until he left in 1995 during the early stages of the recording of their AEnima album
You will slowly start to realize, if you havn't already, Tool is the greatest band of all time. Album to album, song to song, the growth & evolution thru the years...it just can't be topped. Their music just captures you & takes you places you've never been. The Grudge, Lateralus, Right in Two, 7empest, Wings for Marie, the list goes on & on, take ur pick..& you've barely scratched the surface. Enjoy the journey, its a fantasic one!
Great reaction Sean! If you want a laugh - you noticed the relative lack of Maynard’s vocals in the latter part of the song - there are a series of videos on YT of Maynard setting up goofy things right behind Danny’s drum set, like a Jenga tower, and then when Danny smashes the big gong behind him Maynard does a great “Nooooo, whyyyyyyy?!? *sob*” They are all from the current concert tour. Hilarious. In another he’s trying to play the old “Operation” game…ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l_rW0-4fWRU.html
Can’t forget the one where May are replaces Danny’s gong mallet with a dildo and Danny uses it anyway! 🤪 I love how they take their music seriously without taking themselves seriously.
Awesome reaction Sean. This is by far the most transcending song (at least for me) that TOOL released to this day and I've listened to them all hundreds of times ! Fear Inoculum album is the pinnacle of their work in my opinion and don't get me wrong I love Lateralus, 10,000 days and Aenema. But what they've achieved with this album is beyond phenomenal. Each song is a pure journey per se. Descending is a transcendance by definition and it holds a special place in my heart. At 10:57, this is the climax that never ends to give me goosebumps. I would recommend listening to it again multiple times (this applies for the other TOOL songs as well) to fully grasp the magic and musicianship around it. Keep going with TOOL reactions we love it !
Tool's masterpiece...great reaction bro. Song feels has like 3 intros and 5 outros, how is that even possible? 4 musical savants know how. They do take you somewhere else. Again amazing reaction. Props.
@@SeanStaxxMusic you will not regret it, they are even "better" live. Just flawless, beautiful display of musical ability and connection with the crowd, the environment moves you 🤟🏿 Great reaction my friend, greetings from Mexico!
I can absolutely relate to this feeling! I remember the first time hearing Tool back in the 90's in my homie's parent's basement trippin my face off and INSTANTLY realizing that, even though hip-hop/rap was me, 100% ME, that there was something ELSE, another genre, another SOUND, that gave me the VIBES, that stirred an EMOTION within me on that same level and beyond.... and that sound was TOOL! From that day fwd I've always been a fan, particularly of Danny Carey's drumming, but a fan of TOOL as a whole.
This is prob my favorite song by then. I’ve been listening to them since they first came out with opiate. I love all they’re albums but I feel like every album is leading up to fear innoculum. The just get better and better. The way Adam hits that last power chord in the solo and just makes his guitar growl with the wah… it’s incredible
"im back, im back to reality! i feel like i just got transported to another dimension, that was an audio drug" exact reaction that we Tool fans expected. Enjoy the ride. Spiral out.
Holycrap this is absolutely my favorite video on the internet ❤💫 Tool is a whole experience. Once you get a taste, there's no turning back🙌🏻 There's nothing like watching someone genuinely get lost in a Tool song Thank you so much for sharing, this truly made my night😊
They're so Effin good......I've been a rabid fan for almost 30 years, This new album is spectacular, it's organic, I've aged with them, they are very atmospheric...but who was th star of this? Was it Adams guitar riffs and tone? Was it's Maynards spectacularly clear and powerful voice? Was it Danny Carey's insanity in the face of a plain tapestry? Or was it Justin Chancellor carrying this tune the entire time while his bandmates flew around?? There is no band like TooL, none...thanks Sean!
Well put. For me I think it has to be Justin Chancellor, he is a rock. Especially in 7empest when he is carrying the unusual rhythm under Adams first solo for like 5 minutes straight. Monster of a musician.
As a die hard fan of Tool's music, and having listened to every track a million times, I would say my two ultimate favorite Tool songs are Pushit and Descending.
When Danny hits the gong at the 11:15 mark it's like the sky just burst open and chaos is unleashed on the earth. The song just hits God mode and never looks back until everything's annihilated.... Then it all washes away... Epic af
I need to admit I have seen almost all the tool reaction vids, because I am really hunting for them...gives me satisfaction, but this one for DESCENDING is by far the best reaction.....thx Sean listining to tool since the early 90s btw....I am an old boy..... how they developed over time is awesome
14.24..... I'm gonna stop you right there. You don't need to put it into words bro - your reaction is clear :) this is my favorite (Tool) reaction of yours that I have seen (as an aside I think you should go back and listen to Undertow a few more times) - I saw many faces of you that have not displayed before, and that makes me smile, because this song... this song... is one of the best ever written/performed/recorded/conceived/produced/etc I look forward to you listening to Invincible :)
"I'm back to reality" lol. Love watching people listening to a Tool song for the first time. Please do Invincible next, by far my favorite track on this album.
Tool took Heavy Metal and Prog Rock, combined them, threw a jazz drummer in the mix, and turned them on their head. One of my absolute favorite bands of all time
My FAVORITE Tool song of all time. So majestic and amazing. I cried tears of absolute joy when I heard it live a few months ago. Greatest Tool song ever. You should do my second fave Reflection.
I love watching people's reactions to tool because I fell in love with them when I was like 15. We're going on 20 years later and seeing great reactions and breakdowns like this really take me back and help me reconnect with what made me fall in love with tool in the first place. They're all these little things that I take for granted now because I'm just so used to them being a part of tools music...
The way you articulated your experience was spot on! One thing that no one can deny is that music has no boundaries, is the universal language that unites us... Thanks for sharing your first time listening to this! 🤟🏿
My guy, hitting, “ I don’t know how we got here, but I’m vibing with it” totally nails what I love about of Tool. They paint these different landscapes that evolve so naturally. It’s a treat just to sit on the passenger seat and ride.
The water/waves intro and outro always remind me of the beach scenes in Inception. Specifically Inception....not just any old beach. Perhaps because of the themes and subject matter of that film. Also, at 11:20 (of this video) in the song, I always visualise descending in a downward spiral/whirlpool like the one on the album cover
For those as transfixed by Danny Carey as I am, you may be interested in checking out audio-synced drum sheet music for Descending (videos available in both dark and light color schemes): ru-vid.com/group/PLeaK9tcJzll0JqQ3Mze4DMQopO8ObtVvY
Love it, this song gets me so hyped. It came on once as I was running and the line “stay alive” was tapping into something deep inside me and I felt a rush of power. It was like a second wind but more; it felt more like embrace the pain and feel alive.
Bro, seeing your reactions to TOOL is something else. They are just that band man. Major vibes. Also, I noticed you did a Zeppelin react. How about a react to TOOL's cover of "No Quarter" by Led Zeppelin?
Found you thanks to Drum Cam reaction. Am currently 3 or so into your TOOL reactions, will be binging until I get thru them all. My recommendations echo some I’ve seen in your comments, and one I’ve only seen the album mentioned for. 1. - I saw you have done 46 & 2 already, so that one is ticked from my list. Will likely go watch it next, to see your take on its message. 2. - Right In Two - A powerful point-of-view piece about modern humanity. 3. - Wings for Marie / 10,000 Days (Wings part 2)
I think it's official. You've enlisted in the TOOL Army. Welcome home. You asked about the lyrics and meaning. Here's my interpretation. Fear Inoculum has a sense of urgency that isn't present on their other albums. They're in tune with the zeitgeist, especially in Descending. "Stir us from our wanton slumber. Mitigate our ruin. Call us all to arms and order." Even the guitar in some parts sounds like an alarm. There's a warning that is evident when you take the album in it's entirety: We need to wake up and realize that we are all one. We need to choose love over fear or we're done. Descending is the warning part. The themes of unity and love over fear have been present in their work over 25 years now, but that sense of urgency mentioned, conveyed so beautifully in this song, is fairly new. Just my opinion. It's a subjective, interactive experience. p.s. loved Problems. Great sound, catchy, well written and performed. I will be listening to it regularly. So upbeat and chill at the same time.
Stoked you are enjoying their newest material so much. I've been a fan of Tool since about '95 and I love every album, but I think the newest one is underrated! You seem to get high on the exact same elements that get me. This song is essentially orgasmic live. See them live if you can. Hopefully they tour again soon. I've seen them 3 times in the past few years. Worth every penny.
Great song! I don’t know if you’ve seen any requests for ‘The Grudge’ yet but I think you’ll really appreciate that one. Maynard scream is pretty impressive. To be transparent, I’ve watched a few of your reactions of Tool in the last hour. I love it when someone knows what they’re talking about and they really dive right in. There are so many more for you to experience! Keep it up, they change peoples lives. 🤘🏼
I was not a big Tool fan til i saw them live in Louisville back in March. They are a must see. The visuals of the concert were as impressive as the music. I am now a huge fan. Although some of their songs music is heard over the vocals once i learn the lyrics it changes my perspective. Tool music isnt just music, it is a listening experience.
