anna olu it was, I remember listening to the DRT suite being completely blown away, then hearing this come on. Me and my gf were clinging to whatever we were leaning on during peak come up when the dude in the audio message suddenly gets warped out of existence. I remember laughing hysterically and saying “wellp, I guess that’s the end of that, huh!”

I love how The Grudge has the sound of a machine starting at the beginning and Faaip De Oiad has that same machine becoming more and more energized until it seemingly dies. Little details like that are what make this album enjoyable.

I was living in a half way house in a dorm space. I had a roommate and I was listening to this album before bed. The lights were out and we were getting ready to sleep and this track began to play. I just let it play all the way through. Once the track finished there was silence in the room for about 10 seconds. Then I spoke up “well...goodnight” Then silence for a few more seconds. Then my tough guy room mate spoke up quietly in a meek voice.. “that was scary”

At the time Lateralus came out not everyone had internet but at first I was super impressed how realistic and cool they made this. Until years later someone told me this was actually a call to a radio station, and I learned about Art Bell through the game Prey (in 2006 as he has several in-game fictional calls from people who were under attack by aliens) and how bizarre this story was. And still is to this date, as after the guy was speaking about a minute the entire show went off the waves for hours without any explanation whatsoever. To make it a bit more creepy: This was on September 11th, 1997.

The same gentleman allegedly called back again on April 28, 1998, admitting that the original call was fraudulent, however the second caller's voice, tone and mannerisms have called into question whether this was the same person. Many believe this was a cover up from the government as the original call was cut off.

My first listen was on LSD, and after the profound experience that is the holy trinity (Disposition, Reflection, Triad) this absolutely blew my mind in the sense that I never saw it coming. It's both thought-provoking and humorous in a way, a line TOOL walks very well. Just a magnificent album I'm truly grateful exists.

You actually got to hear this happen live? I think I was 9 years old at the time. When it happened, a few of my classmates were talking about it because their dad's had heard it happen and they swore up and down that aliens were coming soon. I didn't understand then till years later I heard the clip myself through Lateralus. I wish I heard it happen live though. Must have been a hell of an experience.

Judging by the show Ancient Aliens, and the mass flood of other stuff being released about aliens/UFO's all of a sudden, like the Navy finally coming out with videos and admitting to UFO's.. Good trip, suddenly make bad trip, lol... I remember my 16 year old self running after Triad finished to my 3-disk CD player, to switch albums over to 10,000 Days, tripping on 5g of shrooms, my first experience, all alone... I knew this song was up and I knew I didn't want to experience it whilst peaking on shrooms alone at 2am whilst my parents slept 20 feet away, lol... good fucking times. It was a good trip. I have no doubt if this shit came on instead of Vicarious, I'd have probably lost it at that point in the trip. I was peaking hard, it was weird, a little scary, but the pretty and familiar and trippy Tool songs led my way (I think I did Lateralus, 10,000 Days, Aenima for that trip)... I just knew there were one or two songs that I *HAD* to skip, lol..

My dad and I never got along, but he had a good taste in music. I looked for this song today because I never forgot the creepy phone call one that made me feel a profound sense of dread. It makes you feel like you're being watched in a dark room even with the lights on. Hearing it as an adult is arguably more intense.

With all the global and astrological events happening (Saturn's return into Pisces) this entire album has given me new meaning to contemplate for 2023. Throughout this album, Tool touches on the merging of masculine and feminine energies, coming back to wholeness, the weather change, crucifixion of the ego before its too, the squaring of the circle (solved by Mr. Robert Edward Grant recently - an age old conundrum thought to be impossible) are just a few examples. I have the chills... and the last song, Faaip De Oiad talks about extra terrestrial beings making contact and the government knowing to reduce population. Those damn ticks and leeches... Mr. Keenan, I'm so happy you were the patient and waited it out. You must have ascended decades ago and left us these encrypted messages through your music. I admire you for the tedious path you've chosen here. Thank you to Alex Jones, Danny Carey, Justin Chancellor, and anyone else who delivered "a message of hope for those to hear it and a warning for those who do not." I recommend EVERYONE to watch CodeX by Robert Edward Grant on Amazon Prime to get just a taste of what came before this precious moment 💜 time to let go and evolve.

What I remember is being blown away by the album and listening to the songs I loved over and over for days and then laying down in my room giving the rest of the album a chance. I heard this late at night. Not know what to think of it but what I loved most about it was when it gets cut off my cd player shut off and laser inside did that little “whir” to reset it when it was finished with a cd. Id like to think that was intentional and a nice touch but it scared me when I went to open the Cd player. Lol.

Oh I remember that audio. It's a real phone call to a radio talkshow called Coast to Coast. It's claimed that it is from a former Area 51 worker sharing secrets. About maybe 2 minutes in, the broadcast signal gets cut off and runs on a backup broadcast. "In some way, something knocked us off the air, and we're on a backup system now. "Was it the government or..." "I don't know."

It still gets played on air by George Knapp, George Noorey, Jimmy Church and the rest of Coast to Coast's other Hosts The man called in on: September 11, 1997....I absolutely do not believe this man was a hoax. First time I heard this was on my cassette yellow Sony Walkman with the standard stiff yellow headset that was included. I was half asleep and awoke to this about halfway through. I felt like someone was trying to talk to me via radio waves. Scared the piss outta me.... and I love the memory.
