It is Justin fyi Paul D'Amour left after undertow to pursue his passion for guitar.. also Adam has been there since day 1 he brought Paul to play bass when they started... Danny was Maynards neighbour and only stuck with them cause he felt bad they couldnt find a drummer... Lil tool history for ya
Tool express a lot of the emotions with the textures, many times they sound uncomfortable, annoying sounds, but they add suspense, emotion, Adam does that a lot, being an excellent sculptor and plastic artist in general, he transfers a lot of that to the way he plays the guitar, creating shapes, textures, brightness and chiaroscuro to his sound. A true genius of modern art, and possibly one of the most complete artists in the industry. A value of our time which must be valued and celebrated.
Im happy you reacted to this song, It's my personal favorite of Tool's catalog. I even decided to play it on bass as a final for a music class i had in high school.
The ending with the record skipping sounds would fade into the next track which is purely that sound. The track is called "Useful Idiot". On vinyl it was put as the last track on the side so that vinyl listeners would think that their record player was stuck.
AEnima is a gem of an album. My fav album of all time as a die hard TOOL fan. Thanks for reacting to H and thank you to SupervisedChaos for requesting it. Cheers boys 🤘🏼👁🌀🌀🌀🌀
AEnima changed me for good when I was in my late teens. I can’t decide between AEnima and lateralus for my favorite. I feel like lateralus might be the best but AEnima is my favorite and most important……. If that makes sense. ✌️
this is my fav. as well. lateralus a close 2nd. jimmy and pushit are 2 of my most played but hell i usually just hit play and listen to the whole album. take care all
@@aaronwolf3587 Makes total sense and is the same for me. My fav album is AEnima and I would admit Lateralus is the likely the best. TOOL changed my taste in music for life. I was 20 when i first heard them, am 50 now, and none of their music has gotten any less addictive. Hope they make music into their 70s ✌🏻👁🌀🤘🏼
@@malhondize3898 Agree and same for me. Ah man Pushit is soooooo good. Most listened to as well. Entire album is so good. Everything they do. Cheers ✌🏻👁🌀🤘🏼
Adam is the one and only guitar player from Tool. The only person who was replaced was Paul D’Amore, who played on Undertow and recorded some of the music for Ænema, he left the band and Justin Chancellor took over and it’s been the four of them ever since. No person has ever played a guitar for Tool besides Adam Jones. 👍🏻
actually....i can think of one technical exception, because they weren't playing a Tool song. But on the Salival album, King Buzzo comes out to help them play You Lied
Which is a funny topic because there’s a rumor amongst Toolfans that Paul wanted to play guitar and so left Tool. Probably untrue because he went on to play bass with several bands as far as I know.
The same people who told you Adam is Tool's second or third guitarist are probably the same people who tell you not to count during reactions 😆Anyway, you're right about Ænima being a bridge album, Dave. Maybe it was the addition of Justin, but whatever it was, for me, this is when Tool really started finding its uniquely creativite sound.
I love in certain Tool songs the pauses. For instance in 46&2 when they get to the main riff in between there is a slight pause. Duh nuh dun nuh dun nuh dun nuh pause then repeat,
Great reaction and review! Love all your varied insights. I think H. is one of the best tracks to demonstrate Tool's tightness/cohesion as a band. FYI, the crackle ending leads directly into the soundscape of the next track.
Of all the albums that I played to death when I was 16 was this one. As soon as this album came out I was an immediate Tool fan. Undertow was just before i was old enough to get into music
The bass line is uncomfortable? After 20 yrs, this bass line is a baby blanket that puts me asleep before the drop. That's what I love about reactions. Your view's so new, mind so blown away!! 🌀 👁🗨
It's common to a lot of Tool songs for Maynard to use an aspect of the musicality in the narrative of the lyrics. The schism in Schism informed the title, et al.
Love Tool. Has anyone suggested any songs off Sleep Token's new album, maybe Ascensionism or The Summoning or the title song Take Me Back to Eden? I was never into them but I am at some flash point in my life where this album sucked me in almost against my will ha; and now I can't get the damned songs out of my head!
I'm not a lyrics guy, never have been. Lyrics go right over my head. It's not that I don't care about lyrics, I understand their importance. However I've never been able to grasp them and interpret them. That's why I stick to what I am good at, which is the musicality side of music. Chords, scales, modes, time signatures, key signatures, that's where I excel. I play to my strengths.
To me this is Tools best album. Aenema. I bought this album the day it came out in 1996, I’m now a 48-year-old man that still routinely listens to it probably once or twice a month. This is the album where Tool became Tool. Great review David.
40 here, bought it the week it came out. They became my favorite band, now sharing that position with Meshuggah since seeing them open for Tool in ‘02. I put Aenima, Lateralus, 10K and FI on pretty much the same level. And even worse, some of my favorite moments are on FI. 😆 I just couldn’t say enough for their catalogue, and I’m very into many other bands/artists as well. I’ve come to think a good chunk of Toolfans are _not_ into many other bands…………the most disappointing stuff to recently unfold is Tool’s apparent taking full advantage of the the “dynamic” ticket pricing. Concert tickets in general have gone up significantly but I’m currently of the opinion the band has considerable control of that.
@@Egoblivion I would pretty much rank the albums in that order as well. Aenima, Lateralus, 10,000 Days, Undertow, Fear Inoculum. And I absolutely adore Fear Inoculum, but there’s really only 6 real songs so it inevitably comes up last for me. Undertow they are a different band but it has a lot of nostalgia for me. I agree on the ticket pricing, especially for the fact that they play the same exact set list every single night with the exception of maybe changing up 1 song. Tool is probably my favorite band to listen to, but as far as seeing live bands I’ve seen Fugazi, Type O Negative, the Foo Fighters, and even the Beastie Boys put on better live shows. I’m not necessarily saying they sounded better, but it was a different show each night and you didn’t know which song was coming next. I had to pass up seeing Tool in 2019 because the tickets were just too much here in New York City. It would’ve been almost $500 for two tickets in the nose bleeds. So I hear what you’re saying. I saw them twice in like 96 and 03. They make truly remarkable music.
