This video was taken shortly before Danny's 59th birthday. He has four limb independence and a uses a lot of different time signatures at the same time. That's basically the equivalent of making a circle with one hand and a square with the other along with making a triangle with one foot and a hexagon with the other. The rub your head and pat your head x2. About his set up. He has 7 Mandala pads 4 to the left of the highhat and 3 to the right. Each has 128 strike points arranged in 7 concentric circles which he can program to sound like whatever he wants. He uses the 2 Synthesizers over his left shoulder for this. Above his snare and on each side of the highhat are 2 rack Tom's, an 8" and a 14". The drum that sounds like a table, is a Korg Wd 1 wave drum also programble with the 2 sythns mentioned. His snare drum is a cast bronze KV 14"×8" and weighs 44lbs. There are 2floor toms 14" and 16". He uses 2 kick drums 22" and 24". Behind him is a 40" Paste symphonic gong. Above that, looks like a huge arced keyboard is called a Marimba Lumina that is programable through a MIDI controller. Each key defines the strike zones and its played with special mallets. Most of his brass are Paiste cymbals. Lot of different equipment for adding textures and expanding his drumming vocabulary. Probably more information than you care to know🤣🤣. Hes easily the best drummer alive today and would easily in my opinion be in the top 10 all time. Keep up the reactions. Glad as always to spee you well.✌🤘🤘

The main phrase of the irregular sections is basically 33, 8th notes. I've seen drummers, guitarists, and composers discuss dividing that up differently to taste (ie. [6, 6, 2, 6, 6, 7], or [5, 3, 3, 3, 5, 3, 3, 3, 5], or [3, 3, 3, 3, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 2, 3, 2]). That's just the primary irregular phrase. There are also several variations on that kind of theme that pop up all over the place. The fact that the drummer can pull it off live is god-tier, and the fact that the band can hang with him (as a guitarist) I find even more insane. You might say 4/4 means it got better, but I would say 4/4 has its place, and so does 33/8.

Danny Carey is almost 60 and has the mind of a drum master, its was filmed for Vic Firth and he uses sticks made for him by Vic Firth. Maynard is infamously reclusive and rarely out in front. Tool takes you on a journey with the lyrics and the layering of the instruments. Tools is pretty much at the top of the list when it comes to rock bands.

No one wants to compare Neil and Danny because there is a pretty good overlap in their fanbase, but Danny is up there with the best rock drummers in the world without a doubt. The bassist is definitely underrated in this band. Another interesting thing about this band, in recent years the singer (Maynard) tends to sing in the dark back near Danny, while the other band members have spotlights on them.

Whoa, didn't expect this as the next Tool reaction! Yeah, Danny Carey is a beast on the drums (he's probably part octopus, like a select few other well-known drummers. Haha.). He's incredibly technical (as well as the other Tool members), and when you're dealing with polyrhythms (ie. multiple rhythm's employed simultaneously in a song) like Tool does, it's incredible how Danny Carey does his thing. From those who know Rush more than I do, I've heard that Danny is the closest to Neil in drumming style and talent. And the drum cam here is definitely meant to keep the sound focused on the drumming than the other instruments and vocals. I almost wish you did the studio version first, before the drum cam, but it's cool. The tracks on the new album require a good amount of patience. 7/8 tracks (not counting the two short little weird tracks in between some songs) are each over 10 minutes long, and each sort of have it's own build-up. Pneuma is probably my favorite on the album, next to Fear Inoculum and Descending. I'd say each song is a grower, as the album itself is probably their most mild project yet, and has been a little divisive among Tool fans. That said, what can't be argued about the new album, is that the instrumentation is still top-notch. I'll have to scour some live Tool performances. lol My next Tool request was Schism, so maybe I'll see if there's a live version of that anywhere. The bass play in that song is *chef's kiss*.
@brianmannell9754
@brianmannell9754 4 года назад
As for my other requests, I guess you know what they are. lol With my prime request being Gojira - Gift of Guilt (with lyrics), just because I'm curious how you guys might like it, or maybe don't. :P I think I'll change my Muse suggestion though. I listened to that Queen 2 album, and I thought it was good (my favorite track probably being The March of the Black Queen). However, based on this album, I think Muse is definitely more on the aggressive, rock-ish side. They do have some slower tracks, with a focus on piano and vocals similar to Queen, but I guess when people say Muse is the modern-day Queen, they're saying it in the sense that Muse basically bends the Rock genre, like how Queen bent the rock genre in their era. So, I think Knights of Cydonia (live in Rome) is a solid Muse track to start with. Then maybe New Born if you want a bit of piano. Or Stockholm Syndrome if you want their more aggressive side. Or Sunburn if you want some sweet piano melody that's more part of the song. But none of these are quintessential Muse. There's no such thing, as each song you may react to will feel slightly or vastly different from one another for the most part. So whichever you choose, is up to you. But if you want to lean more towards Queen, then maybe Survival. Or (imo) Supremacy.
@fatherandsonreactions

Thanks! We were wondering about the drum sound! And what you said makes complete sense in my eyes, I can definitely see how he’s the closest to Neil Peart. I don’t think I’ve seen any other drummer with the technicality or ability as this guy we just witnessed (Besides Neil.) Glad you liked Queen II! My favorite off that album is also The March of The Black Queen. Also, when we come back to TOOL again, it will most likely be Schism. Wow!! This was from their new album! We totally forgot that! Thanks for letting us know! Thanks for commenting as always !! -S

@@fatherandsonreactions Haha yeah. The album, "Fear Inoculum", that was 13 years in the making. lol (The album also came with a digital screen with a short, trippy video that was kind of neat, and art booklet. Tool likes doing things differently with their albums). Fun thing that happened with it's release. It topped the charts at #1 for almost a week (short time, in current day standards), and it made some Taylor Swift fans pretty mad since it knocked out Taylor Swift's new album from debuting at #1 during it's initial release. There's some articles online capturing some of their meltdown and confusion from this event through messages from Twitter, Instagram, etc. lol I found it pretty entertaining.

@@fatherandsonreactions Haha, well there's that, too (though, I actually like some rap and pop groups a lot, though almost all of what I like isn't mainstream. I plan to give Taylor Swift a chance down the road, too, before I fully judge her. Even though I'm sure I wouldn't care for her music all that much). For me, it was mostly the utter confusion of who Tool was (and boy, were they confused about who this group was, and where they came from. lol), the gasps at how long each song was, calling Tool fans Grandpas (I haven't even broke 30 yet, but okay. lol), and the utter drive to stream Swift as much as possible to topple Tool from the (ultimately meaningless) #1 spot that made me chuckle quite a bit. Though I love it when non-mainstream bands get more exposure through the charts anyways. It was a fun time for Tool fans. lol

Not my favourite band, just don't listen to them usually. Now I had to listen to them because I like to watch your reactions. Tool did not win me over, but hey, nothing wrong with that. You can't like everything. I'm sure and hope there will be many great songs coming up that I will like in the upcoming videos from you guys. And I'm waiting for the next live reaction show, hopefully not too far away.

I like you guys and your channel so I gave the video a thumbs up even though I don't really care for Tool. As I've stated before, I can appreciate their talent and uniqueness, but they just don't do anything for me. Here's another suggestion though: Molly Hatchet - Flirtin' With Disaster (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_K_-D5B7DIg.html). Cheers!

@@steveratcliffe2181 Ya, so many people have recommended Tool to me, but there's just something about them that doesn't resonate with me. I guess It's how most people react when I recommend Clutch to them...one of my all-time fave bands and I can't understand why everyone doesn't love them haha! Cheers!

Thanks Mike! We really appreciate that you liked the video anyways. We’ve definitely heard of Molly Hatchet. We would definitely be willing to check them out. That song has been suggested a lot recently so who knows! Thanks for watching us and always commenting! Rock on 🤘-S

I must admit,as a few others have said,Tool don't really do it for me and I don't know why. They are all great musicians but there is something I just can't put my finger on but having said that it was another great honest reaction. Not many channels have the courage and honesty to do complex and challenging long tracks. Keep up the good work guys.

Thanks Steve! We actually didn’t like TOOL at first. I know what ya mean! They do have that weird vibe to them. They do have a song called “The Pot” that we reacted to that changed our minds. I recommend giving that one a listen. I think you might like it -S

that. was the most thoughtless listen through. I'm following you guys and really?Q You discounted it for abverent reasons. Why would you have decided that discounting the Danny GOAT for not showing the other members is fine? You need to be smarter if you are going to review smart bands.

Cool! Not really interest in their music. Propably should give them a chance and try more their songs. Definitely a creative drummer. Btw the audio of the songs/performances is still low to me. I mean the ratio is great (I can easily understand what you are saying during the song), however I would put the overall volume up. Thanks for reaction!

They have some great ones! We did a reaction to a song called “The Pot” which is definitely worth listing to if you want to hear some cool stuff. Yes, definitely a cool style of drumming. Thanks! we will be sure to up the volume next time! Rock on James! 🤘-S

Kind of figured you guys would react the way you did. The songs off Tool's newest album are all pretty much like this outside "Invincible", and many are even slower. You have to really be into the music and just listen to it and let it carry you somewhere, instead of expecting there to be alot of loud instruments and singing. It's not going to happen for the most part. To be honest, this was an awful way to hear this song for the first time. Like you guys mentioned, you can't hear alot of stuff going on outside the drums. This video was just set up to show off Danny's drumming, it wasn't for experiencing the song itself. Most people will recommend a Sober live video, but given you guys were horribly off that song, I wouldn't suggest it. The live performance doesn't make it sound any better (it's from the 90's and awful quality). You may like a live performance of "Stinkfist" more. It's the only song they allow people to record from their concerts, so it has alot of uploads. Here's one that has pretty good audio quality (though I'd still suggest listening to the actual album version first!): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-u32G15b2XPs.html Also, the music video for "Stinkfist" is bizarre as hell, watch it if you want to see the weird visuals Tool uses, but avoid if you just want to listen to the song. The music video is very distracting.

It needed to be a shorter song. I was bored. I felt like I was watching someone drum to a Tool song. I felt disconnected from everything else that was happening. From now on, please don't make suggestions for Father and Son reactions while under the influence.

Calvin W Boaz. Do you not understand the concept of a "drum cam". And if you watch the official video on full screen, you can see the massive crowd... I'm glad you think tool sounds as good as the CD live though ;)
