TOOL REBUILD COLLECTION!!

Here's a collection of tools what I have rebuilt over the years in my workshop.
I'm always for a hunt for cheap abandoned tools. I have collected quite a collection so far. Almost all of them are in active use in my workshop. I haven't done so much milling with the pantograph cos I don't have required tools for it yet. It's a super cool machine though.
When the machine is dismantled for bearing change it's easy to clean and paint it. I guess everybody doesn't like my choice of colors but hey, so what, these are my machines and I guess the touch of cherry red (my favorite) color is my trademark now :D
It all started when I had a lot of industrial leftover paints and I just went with the feeling. I like the way they look and are all kind of the same series.
I think it also teach you a lot of mechanics and how the machine works when you took things apart and put it back together successfully.
Thanks for tuning in to my workshop!
Please subscribe and leave a comment and like!
Thanks and Cheers!

I have a similar drill press and I also want to paint it in these colors ☺ I also like the products of the Milwaukee manufacturer. They are awesome! 😍

Why not replace realays with a PLC? Example: www.fatek.com/en/prod.php?catId=5 And a operators panel? Example: www.engineersgarage.com/articles/plc-programmable-logic-controller A more expensive method but give you loads of options and easy to switch work method.

+new and old tech Thanks for a tip! Im not so good with electric stuff.. But defenitly a great idea! Im planning a vfd on my lathe and mill.. theres a good challenge for me😃
@newandoldtech5634
@newandoldtech5634 6 лет назад
Get some help the first time. I work with those things for a living, and I recommend you to hire a pro in the beginning. To choose the right things and make them work together. Encoders and analouge measuring is an option in the higher end. Choose a main piece of Equipment (plc, main Control unit) bigger and better than you Think you need. You are expanding your features as you go along and to change it all when wanting to add encoders and what not is expensive. Dont try to program a lathe if you are not absloutely sure and the safety features are solid. Not trying to scare you off it all. Be safe.

And I have had to watch this drill press piece several times. I LOVE your paint schemes. I am not a red guy, but you don't just use red. You put the motor in gray and added the wings in chrome or billet like on your Tapio T from your Anvil stand. Just plain gorgeous...

Will Black thanks for watching! We have lots of old cccp machines in Finland. Russia is our biggest neighbor.. Back in the days we gave them eggs and they gave us machines:) I use alkyd paint for metal. it is easy to paint with brush and roller and it is cheap too.. one coat primer and two coats paint.. it is also easy to fix when need to.. I have a spraygun but it is too messy.. Wings and red are my thing, they look cool :D cheers Will!

Subscribed. Very nice work. Those machines look great. I love old machines too. I dont restore them like this though. I just clean them up and run them. I feel like the surface imperfections and rust tell the story of the machines life so I like to leave them as i find them. Just clean them with degreaser and oil them up, fix any broken or missing parts and fire them up and start making stuff. You have an awesome shop.
@thandles_workshop

+joedell71 Hi and thanks! Yes it would be easier just clean them up and start working.. i guess restoring and upgrading is part of my hobby😃
@joedell71
@joedell71 7 лет назад
Nice! yeah I don't have the patience to do this. I just want to start making stuff as soon as I get a new machine. So I just clean them up a bit oil and grease and away we go. You do great work though and your approach is just as valid as mine. Cheers from the frozen wasteland of upstate new york.

I may be mistaken but I think your engraving machine is actually a pantograph! Check out Steffy the winter boy he has a couple of videos showcasing his pantograph. (Stefan Gotteswinter). Oh always great to see oldies get a new lease of life, well done. Regards karl

I just don't know what an engraving machine is. It looks awkward. And poorly designed, but looks excellent with your restoration. You said light milling? 40 bearings of large import? Hmmm, all those tables, odd belts. Looks really good, just have never seen one. Reading comments. Pantograph, yes those are very useful.
@thandles_workshop

+Paublus Americanus Thanks! Yes it is a rare machine.. Back in the days they manufactured signs etc. Also used for copying pressurecasting molds i think. Thanks for watching!
@mohavecountybabysitting7974
@mohavecountybabysitting7974 7 лет назад
Do you always replace the ball/roller bearings or do you have a way of testing them to see if they need replaced. Replacing 40 bearings on that mill would be pretty darn expensive.
@thandles_workshop
@thandles_workshop 7 лет назад
+Al Barany hi! I replace bad and rusted ones.. i wash them first in gasoline and if they roll nice i grease them and but back.. I replace all hi speed bearings and those that reguire lot of work on disassembling the machine and are hard to get to..

Thank you! I paint my machines with high gloss enamel.. alkyd paint.. It is easy to wipe clean and easy to fix.. I use brush and small foam roller.. 2-3 coats. I use good quality masking tape for masking after disgreasing..

Anyone walking into your shop would think you had purchased new tools or had been very lucky and found some NOS equipment that had never been used but stored in some warehouse or museum and just been discovered. You really do a great job in the restorations and your pride in workmanship really shows. Was that an old Soviet era drill press? It looks better than brand new, very tastefully restored.
