TOOL REVIEW - Lawnmower Blade Balancer BUY THIS TOOL HERE; www.discountonl... Make sure this tool is mounted perfectly level on the wall during installation. A must have tool for the small engine mechanic!
Awesome video! Straight to the point and no extra fluff. I don't think I need this yet, but if I get one more lawn care tool that has a blade, I might actually consider this. Please keep up the good work!!!
For those of you who are considering this unit and or the Mag-1000, i can say the Mag-1000 is significantly better. Also, i would like to point out that when i bought this blade balancer, i noticed there was a bit of a rough spot on it. Some reviews on amazon were saying the same thing. The bearings can be replaced but i feel for that price, it should be perfect i ended up returning it and getting the Mag-1000. and yes, this balancer is probably overkill for the average home owner with a average lawn.
Thanks Donyboy. I just bought one yesterday. Also purchased a blade sharpener from Vevor. I was going to buy the RGB 712 but I don’t have that big of a lawn business and I think the Vevor will work fine for me.
Once my blades are sharpened I usually spray the blades with paint to keep the edge from rusting .is that a good idea or just over kill . My gator blades sit most of the summer so that's what kinda got me to start painting them after noticing they was rusting up skittle
Nothing wrong with that But you can also just wd-40 it or get grease put it on the new sharpen parts or the whole blade to prevent rust SAVE YOUR PAINT
Great Video. I bought one of these and I didn't realise how big the item was until I opened it. I was really happy to see the high quality of manufacture too. I got it for $66 on Amazon, then a few days later the price went up to $93. Hahaha. I got a bargain and this tool will last forever unlike the garbage that comes out of China.
I bought mine a couple of years ago and it was $84. Now today, they are $100. The Mag balancer is much nicer but typically over $200. I noticed it is $163 now on AMZN. But I don't balance blades for a living, just a homeowner.
@@scotta9114 The prices on Amazon fluctuate a lot. I'm not sure if this is Amazon pulling the strings or the sellers. It's a big mystery to me how the same product price seems to move with supply and demand and it's like there is an algorithmic AI behind it. I bought a product off Amzn, and two weeks later the price literally doubled and for no good reason either. Then, after another two weeks, the price went back to it's original price. Go figure. I'm glad you're happy with your blade balancer. It is a top quality item from Oregon. Cheers, from Sydney, Australia !
OK, I can see people compare this expensive tool to free nail on the wall. Of course there is no contest here, since nail is awfully not precise. But what about cone balancer that cost about $5-$10? Aren't they good enough?
I have a question I have a Wright stander I am new to this and I am going to change the blades and I am confused because the ones from the manufacturer say they are thicker than the Oregon brand ones which do you recommend I buy thanks
Excellent demonstration on this tool. Clearly explained with a good visual example with various blade designs too. Thanks for putting this out there. Bill on the Hill... :~)
Use that same balancer and its amazing how far off even brand new blades are off and how you can see the difference at the belt bouncing on a 3 blade zero turn deck before and after balancing.
I think you should have also said make sure when you mount it it is perfectly level to your wall. But Great Review Great looking little tool Looks very professional
HEY DONNIE LOVE YOUR VIDS THEY HAVE HELPED ME A LOT IN FIXING THINGS.WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO ORDER DISCOUNT PARTS FOR 2 CYCLE ENGINES LIKE WEEDEATERS AND CHAINSAWS.ANY ADVICE YOU OR OTHER VIEWERS WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANKS AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
Check to make sure the blade isn't bent first... Some are hard to get back to factory, so cheaper just to toss it and buy new. I sell the bent ones to knifemakers... Waste of time to do anything else... Then wire wheel, sharpen the edges, then balance. This balancer was well the worth the $80.00 I paid for it... And I fix mowers to earn extra cash for fun and as a hobby.
Hi Dony. Thank you for showing this tool. Looks very useable and well built. I have a question " Is it true that some models of Brigs & Stratton engines wont start with the blade removed on push mowers ?. " Thank you in advance for any help on this question. Bobby
nice tool i checked it out its 129bucks for the pro LOL ...hey dony QUESTION i may have asked you this before but i dont remember ,,,what would be the minimum compression needed for a small engine to run ? thanks
:-)) I think if i wanted to check my own mower blade i would find a small bearing to fit the hole and a bolt to go through the center, i could hold the bolt horizontal in a vise and the bearing would allow the blade to move. Only good for my blade but it would be only for me :-)) Dony deals with so many that his balancer is essential :-)
over the years I've used several balancers from cheap to some priced close to this one, I settled down with a simple 1/2" or 5/8" drill stock about 4" long, have drill stock laying on a near perfect surface, lay the blade down on it centered by the mounting hole, out of balance shows up immediately, make adjustments accordingly as you show here, regards
Hi Dony, have you ever seen the MAGNA-MATIC MAG 1000 balancer? Another awesome unit, albeit double the cost! Ouch! Great video, as I was looking into getting a balancer in just the last few days. Dony to the rescue once again!
Yes Dony we are, Summer officially starts on the 1st of December. We are currently experiencing beautiful spring weather with temps in the low 20s. The lawn has to be mowed about twice a week. The clocks switched to daylight saving last weekend. I love this time of the year.
Good tools dont need updating. Nine years later and I just got this same balancer. I wanted to see how a pro mounted and used it before I tired myself so thanks for this video.
Awesome review ! Wish you would have rotated the blade onto the other side just to show the results are the same on both sides of the tool. That way you can validate that the tool is not giving false readings. In this case I am sure the results would have been the same and that the blade would have lowered mounting it on the right side after verifying it lowered while on the left side. Nice tool for sure but unless you do an awful lot of blade sharpening quite expensive. Thanks for posting!
tj inla - I’ve had mowers for 10 to 15 years and never had a spindle or crankshaft replaced. Never had a tool like this either. You’ve got to have a seriously screwed up blade And be totally clueless to not be aware of it for that to happen
@@condor5635people say the same thing about wheels on their vehicle. Do you use your equipment for several hours per day ? Simply saying that you've had mowers for X amount of years doesn't really say anything specific. I can wear a commercial mower totally out in 5 years or so because I can put 2500 hours on them in that many years.
Excellent job of explaining this tool ! For those who don't understand how important it is to have a properly balanced blade, and the device designed to handle it properly !
Is this balance still working well for you? I'm looking to buy one real soon but not sure what one to get. I've been using the little cheap ones but I need to upgrade so I can do a better job on the blades.
You don't have to balance your blades, you can keep buying 50 to 100.00 bearing assemblies for your mover deck. I have an electric riding, so my bearings are the motors, I'm sure they would cost much more than this balancer. So I will keep my blades balanced and save hundreds.
How are you coming up with $250-$300??? It's $140 Canadian - I paid about 1/2 that on Amazon US. If you are mowing 500 square feet you probably don't need one, but a lot of us have larger lawns and have to sharpen our blades several times a year. This is a lot cheaper than replacing spindles, plus it's just a proper way of doing things.
Hi there, I just added one of these to my shop. I did find one issue and then the answer. I tried it on a three hole blade with a .635 inch center hole. I mounted it on the balancer with the flat side toward the magnets. It would not lay flat on the magnets. I then flipped the blade over so that the raised edges were toward the magnet ring, worked perfectly. Tony
Tubalcain/mr.pete here on RU-vid taught me that vertical objects aren't level, they are plum. A floor will be level, but a wall is plum if it's straight up and down. A plumbob is used to check that an object is straight up and down. I never knew. Just passing on the info since you seem similar to me in making sure everything is perfect. You and I are the few people who torque everything down in an even pattern.
I bought one of these balancers. Once you get used to using it, it is way better than the cheap stepped cones. If you sharpen a lot of blades I recommend getting this. Check your new blades too before use. You'd be surprised to find out they aren't as perfectly balanced as you think. This balancer can tell if you left the sales sticker on it. Tip: if you have a cheap MIG welder you can weld to the back side of the lift wings to add weight to the light end as opposed to removing material.
First, I soak my blades in a plastic trash can deep enough to immerse the blades. I grass build-up becomes soft very quickly and then it is easy to brush clean. If the blade is unbalanced, take off extra material on the back portion of the blade and not the sharpened side so as to extend the life of the blade.
You know Don, this kind of blade balancer is for professional use and the average home owner is probably best to purchase a Heli-max blade balancer which only cost $15.00. I know you are a professional small engine doctor and you need this kind of blade balancer. Thanks for the video as always, you make excellent video presentations.
You know Carl, the " Heli-max blade balancer" is made for model helicopter (RC Helicopter) enthusiasts. I am not sure it is really suitable for balancing lawnmower blades.
