Just used this tool for my crank/cam seals on my 2011 Subaru Outback 2.5, worked like a freaking charm !! I used a small flathead screwdriver to punch an "access" hole to insert the tool, and then I also used a wooden shim to place between the head of the car and the fulcrum of the tool, so as not to crack any aluminum. ORIGINAL SEALS 182k miles, hard and brittle. Easy-Peasy !!
Thanks for making the video. I was trying to figure out if I wanted to order this tool, but after your video I am sold. It made it looks so easy it is almost too good to be true. Thanks!
I just bought one and used it a few times already at work doing cam and crank seals and it works amazingly well, I'm constantly changing these seals and with this you don't fight with them anymore.
On the back of some Lisle products there is an advertisement asking mechanics to contact them with ideas for innovative tools, with the offer to share royalties for ideas they decide to market. I find their products to be well made and well researched from the ground up.
spelunkerd that explains why every lisle tool I've purchased works so well:) my favorite is the keeper installer/remover. It arrived after I had completed one head on a v6 valve job & literally cut my time by 3/4 on the 2nd head.
I've had this tool for about 5 years and love it. I work on a lot of Honda's and Toyota's and it's a time saver, not to mention a screwdriver and/or pick saver! I've gone through one of the tips already (it's nice that it comes with a spare at this price) My only gripe is I wish the shaft was a little tougher as I've bent (actually straightened it because it comes bent) a few times on some very stubborn seals. Great video btw as always!
I love my adjustable Lisle "rock pick" so much I ordered one of these blind pullers too! Thanks for the review video as I'd never seen this tool before.
This is great. I have been shopping for a tool for cam seal removal on for Subarus. I seen this tool on amazon, and then searched videos on youtube and found this. Since I got to see it in action on the oil pump/crank seal cant wait to use this on cam seals. Now im not dreading using pics to get them out. LOL. Thanks for this video.
Great review, I'm buying one today. I recently gouged the race on a Kohler using the "rock pick", but I wont give up on it either. It was my own stupid fault for not being careful.
Shalom Shep! (that's just too fun to say!) That's a good question. High mileage oil is like the opposite of synthetic. The molecules are bigger. This makes for less leaks through the same size hole. Conventional oil that is petroleum institute certified for gasoline engines is going to be adequate. That's what I would use.
I also use the two wood screw method to pull out the seals :) Easy and cheap way :D To reinstall a new seal I use a marmalade jar with the right diameter to press the new seal correctly in .
I always take a scratch all and poke two holes threw the seal. Then I screw two wood screws into it. Then I grab onto it with wire cutters and pull the seal out that way.
A Whoa tool! Definition - A Tool demonstrated in a shop to a chorus of Whoa from your fellow Techs; often followed by a quick dash to the Tool truck before the last one is sold.
Hey brian i had a question for you. The plastic outlet on the power steering fluid reservoir broke. Is there something I can use to repair it, like jb, epoxy, etc
Hey Brian! Shep here, the Jewish me-chan-ic. When I replace the timing belt on my '99 Accent at 180,000 miles (3rd time) I'm going to replace the cam and crank seals. Dumb question; Since the seals will be new, should stay with high mileage oil? Thanx and LA ' CHIEM!
Yeh, get out your drill and self tapping screws if it is crusted in at the bottom of engine block. It is a good tool for easy seals though, but don't lever too hard, the puller is only 0.02 inches or so. Luckily mine came with a spare puller blade.
Thanx Brian! Hey, how many Jewish mothers does it take to screw in a light bulb? There's 2 possible answers. 1--Don't bother, I don't want to be a burden, I'll just sit in the dark. 2-- 1. She holds up the light bulb and the world revolves around her. See ya! and Ba ' ruch Ha--shem!
