I’m am very pleased for with this scanner. My 1997 Camry that had a constant CEL P1133 fault. This scanner led me to the issue by reading the live data. I had a defective Air/Fuel ratio sensor that was always in the Open Loop and Short Term Fuel reading was reading excessively high. Replaced the A/F sensor and the CEL did not come back and the live data was showing (CL) Closed Loop 👍 Also the I/M Readiness feature is vital for ensuring all emissions are in the complete/OK status for the emission test. In my case, it was totally helpful before getting the old girl ready for the emission test with over 230K on the clock. Passed the dreadful SoCal smog test 😁
I just received this tool for a review. I'm surprised they gave it to me as this tool as been around for many years. Lots of videos out there and I'm learning from you guys so I can do my own video.
My favorite tool! I have a J35 engine with VCM, it seems like the light is always on, lol. I just keep this in my glove compartment so I always know what's going on if the light comes on.
Works fine on my 2011 Ford Fusion , but with my fiance's 2014 Chevy Cruze, it doesnt turn on. I know her dashboard will display errors besides just the check engine light, but was hoping to use this to see if there were any specific codes I could research.
Prob. when everyone says it shows no codes but another checked with a diff. code reader and it showed codes, i see yours showed a code, good i guess. Like to know how i have two bad systems ( o2 and hrt) but no codes ?
Matthew Tukuafu It’ll pull transmission codes yes. That’s pretty much all you can do with this tool is read and clear codes. It will also tell you if the monitors have run or not. For around 30 bucks it’s worth it though.
I had a auto "dummy" question (for my dummy friends who end up Googling for this same info): How do unplug the reader from the port in my 2007 Toyota Corolla. Is there something I have to release before I pull it out? Answer: There is something that catches when you plug in that reader. Find the square whole by feeling under the reader, press button in with a screwdriver in order to release and unplug it.
@@HowtoAutomotive Thanks for your reply. Here's the crazy thing; there was something to release, a button on the bottom that my neighbor released by pushing with a phillips screwdriver. You have to feel for it or get into a really uncomfortable position to see it!
@@JJ0n3z Did you read the troubleshooting section? Did you properly update the product? If nothing in the troubleshooting section/update didn't work. Did you read page 36 and 37 of your product manual? Those give you proper procedures for replacement and technical support.
great video and very informative. I just picked one a few days ago. Was wondering which tests require the vehicle engine to be running if any? And after the scanner is plugged into the vehicle is it required that all other tests require the key in the ON position or is it depending on the vehicle ?
Mike Blezien the scan tool will tell you if it wants the car running or not for testing. The only car that runs test with key off that I know of is Mercedes.
Hello, I had a P0431 and reset my MIL with this device. After 120miles it still hasn't completed testing for AIR and CAT yet. When I do the readiness test, the red LED comes up but the MIL is still dark...strange uh? My car is a Porsche Cayman S (2007).
Frank Reil usually if they won't run the monitor there still a problem. So if you turn the ignition key on and the check engine light does not light up that could be either a burnt out bulb in the dash or a PCM problem
iis Barbiiee Biitch That means that there is a pending code. And you should be able to read exactly what that code is. And then you can go from there about repairing it.
STEVE ROB Yes Steve we use it every day. We have a $15,000 snap on scanner and this little guy is what we use most of the time. I was close to getting that prize money. The winning number was 743 I was 777:)
First time ever using a scan tool. Bought this one today. The only thing the manual does not address is how detailed the scan results are. Let's say a car has a rough first start. Misfires and stalls unless you play with the throttle. But if you start the car, keep it running for 2 seconds, shut the car off, count to 3 and restart, it runs smooth as can be. That tells me it is an "auto-choke" issue. However, fuel injection throttle bodies use an IAV instead of a choke. I suspect it is the IAV misbehaving. Will this tool identify a specific failure or malfunction, or are the results as generic as the P codes given out by auto parts places? Or am I being too hopeful for any tool not priced at thousands of dollars? Not looking for absolute accuracy. But I need more data than just "emissions" as a result. (Tested the IAV's resistance and voltage, both are is range. I have essentially sterilized the IAV and air channels to and from the valve. Throttle body was removed and thoroughly cleaned. New MAF sensor, new temperature sensor, new PCV, and new gaskets and o-rings for each.) As you can see, this issue sucks! lol
@Zoro Zornes Tested them a few months back when this issue began. Oddly, as the weather has cooled, aside from having to touch the throttle at first start in order to get it to start, the misfire has stopped. The "choke" seems to be behaving somewhat. But there still remains an issue with it because I have to hit the throttle a little bit for cold starts.
UPDATE: It is the Idle Air Control Valve. (IAC) It seems the internal spring has lost some of it's recoil over time. $30 part which is a lot cheaper than what I was worried the problem was. lol The scan tool did not identify the problem, but the live reading option includes manifold pressures. That reading should have been lower at the first engine start of the day according to Ford. Took 2 hours but I ruled out any air leaks, vacuum or otherwise. That left the valve being the only possible source of the higher pressures. Turns out it was not closing completely which led to harder than normal starts.
Just curious on why it won't. My buddy keeps having random misfires and put alot of parts into it and still doing it so these codes read with the x beside it along with other data I don't know how to read lol.
Avatarblackwolf just wanted to check my trans fluid but I need to know the temp of the fluid to tell where it should be but don't wanna spend 2-300 on a scan just to check Dodge man I don't know y they got rid of the trans dipsticks
Will it tell me if my parking break needs repair My parking break is kinda acting a little tiny big strange... no light thought... well once in a sporadic while the light will come on, with a beeping of "your parking break is on, jackass. release it, ya dunk." when it is not on.
pulling them out will throw emissions codes , if you're switching to a catless down pipe that would normally have a cat inbetween you will need a tune to ensure a code isnt thrown
