your playing is great but what really impresses me is how well you nailed the tone while keeping the volume low. nailing the tone is so much harder than just playing the notes... well done man!
I couldn't believe it when I first heard it. The tone sounds like it just came out of the album I even started checking for minor imperfections and its just bloody perfect
I wonder how many guitarists are envious that Adam Jones found the ultimate guitar and patented a signature sound that no one can play the same guitar without living in his shadow. I am
Truly inspiring and amazing guitar playing. THE best Tool guitar player on the tube. Your videos give me hope that I may one day play these songs nearly as good as you.
Thanks man! The silverburst is a 1980. I didn't use the eq pedal at all for this song. Adam doesnt use the eq pedal unless he needs a high end boost for feedback, or little solo stuff like the crazy tremolo part in Push-it. It's just a boost, not a legit "EQ" if you get my meaning.
If he's using AJ's settings, it's a treble boost. All the sliders are flat except for 1.6k, 3.2k, and 6.4k which are stairstepped up. The level is boosted a little too.
The hardest part of this song is nailing that tone he has during the bridge I feel and I'm amazed at how you pulled it off -- perfect amount of fuzz and volume. Do you mind sharing what pedals you're using here (specifically for that part)?
Perfect vid, thanks for posting this! Been trying to figure out how to play those noisy chords that transition the quiet bridge part to the end of the bridge riff (where you jam out on D5 and Eb5) for quite a while and watching this really helped wrap my head around it :D
Bipad Behera It's a silverburst, they turn a weird yellowish color (some people call it a flem burst) because of the finish (which gibson stopped using after a few years making these early 79-81ish year models very desirable.) I've also seen some newer silverbursts with a slight yellow tint to them so I'm not sure if this happens with all silverburst les pauls or what.
Great cover bro. Would you mind telling me how did you set up delay for the slow part starting at 3:38 ? what time, what specs? All the best, keep playin!
blarg, I want to, but there is that one part in the middle that I just am not sure about, the part around 2:40. It's really hard to make out what the hell he's actually doing :(
The reason being, most of Adam Jones's tone comes from his hands first, then the guitar, finally the amp, and lastly effects. We use eq to tune a sound closer to a desired frequency, but when your instrument sounds like sex off the bat, you don't fuck with it.
Great to see you still making new videos and I really enjoy how hard you work to nail the nuances of the tone and playing. I work on Tool songs in a similar fashion and I am looking at picking up a goodrich volume pedal to work out the volume techniques Adam uses. Are you using goodrich? If so which model?
Also, how do you set up your EQ pedal? Mid boosted scoop....like a slight frowny face is how I got mine, but I can't get my low end to sound quite right.
+Miguel Runte thanks mate! Yea the feel has a lot to do with not being able to crank the amps, and let them "breath". They lose a lot of potential character at the lower volumes i had to work with :( as a comparison check out my old Rosetta stoned vid... Much higher volumes = much more lively tone :)
Hey could you send me a link to the tabs you used to learn this or send me your tabs please trying to find a correct version and the lnes i keep coming across are off a bit. Thanks
Jared Huntley I don't have or use tabs, I watch live videos of the artists to figure out what they play.... *Edit: I almost forgot about these, they are usually pretty spot on www.tooltabs.net/Tabs/tool/guitar/lateralus/schism.htm
Curious. . what kind of pick ups did u put in ur lp? I also have a silverburst. .trying to get as close to Adams tone as I can and urs is about perfect.
Hey man, amazing cover, I'm doing my music GCSE performance and need a backing track to this song, would you mind sending me yours? It's impossible to find guitarless tracks.
Oculus_Official I don’t have mine anymore but you can find them here on RU-vid :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XL4o-_nJvOA.html The tracks are ripped from a guitar hero game that featured Tool. Just find what you want, then google “RU-vid to mp3” or whatever format.
