They have came a long way from what I used back in the day! I never have used one in a shooting position. It is nice and I guess the best value so that is good.

Poorman's Stack I have a growing collection of the older ones too! I hope to start doing hand plane histories here soon. I’ve got some from the late 1800s still in working condition.

Since I'm a newbie I think this would be good enough. Kinda of on a budget because I still need a router table, drill press and bandsaw. I think this will be a great investment. Thanks.

Great "first" video! Awesome analysis on this tool and comparing it to the other similar tool! You were asking for some video tips and suggestions. Coming from a non-woodworking viewer perspective... Maybe a quick 20 seconds explanation on what the tool is used for? I know I'm not your target audience, but I'm sure others would benefit from the brief how-to also. Nothing hugely indepth, just what scenario would you grab that tool, etc.

Positive Breaks I love that idea! I will definitely start doing that and once I get my shop up I’d like to do videos on the basics of the tools and show how to use them. Where it has nothing to do with the make of the tool it’s purely just how to use it.

Nice job sir! To be honest, I have never used a hand plane. This also means that I do not own one, as you might expect after my first comment. What would you think about doing a tutorial video on using this plane? Maybe explain when to use and why? Just a thought. I am a guy who grabs a palm sander and will burn through 6 disks to get my wood worked down to how I want . . . when a plane is probably a better option. Also, think about adding a link in your comment section so that folks could go out a purchase one. If you start driving business to tool sites, you might be able to work out a sponsorship, or at least a discount code for your viewers at some point. Excellent review of this tool!

Hopefully this works! I’ve been trying to comment from the desktop site and it will not upload. I know I’ve told you this already but I really like those ideas and I hope to include I brief description of what I use the tool for and hopefully me using it once the shop is finished!

What about the Lie-Neilson rabbit block plane where the blade is the full width of the tool? Also good for tenons.
@matthewvick4930
@matthewvick4930 3 года назад
It’s an excellent tool but is in a whole other ball park. The LN No 102 low angle block is more comparable to this one in price and functionality. One of these days I will get the LN rabbit block plane because I like how it is the full width of the tool were the veritas is skewed flush to one side.

@@matthewvick4930 Thanks Matt. Do you mean that the Veritas Apron plane is to the edge of one side? So it could be used to clean out a tenon or rabbet?
@matthewvick4930
@matthewvick4930 3 года назад
@@Camden04843 no sorry for not specifying. The veritas version of the LN rabbit block only goes to one side. The apron plane like the one in the video does not sit flush to either side of the plane. I was just saying the LN rabbit block is better in my opinion than what veritas has to offer in that department. So no relation the the apron plane. I hope that makes sense
