Those boxes with screws, wago's, 5,5mm red plugs and blind outs for unpopulated fuse openings remind me of my cordless drill box that I used back in the day. Some 20 years ago. Same stuff, and I'm in Norway. Nostalgia :)

I know what you mean, I have on the van one of these dollies: www.toolstation.com/roughneck-dolly/p99817 - just the size for this toolbox! Happy New Year!

The Wiha Slimvario VDE screwdriver sets are best I have ever used.Takes up way less space than my old Wera VDE set, I have more sizes like Torx and Hex to hand and a stubby handle they all fit. Will be getting the Torque handle soon too!

Love the Ken Burns effect on the tool boxes. It fooled me at first, as I thought you may have used a drone to swoop in, but then remembered that ken had created this effect.

Ha! You can assume that any filming or special effects at this end have always been done in the easiest and cheapest way possible!

Your set up is similar to my own - yet to check out your power tool box. I also have a second basic tool kit that I take on local jobs when I travel by bike which, usually around the small city of York.

Hello David happy new year. Just wondering when you need to measure capacitance as you mentioned when talking about your clamp meter?
@dsesuk
@dsesuk 5 лет назад
Happy New Year Stephen! The only time I've needed capacitance was diagnosing a motor fault on a commercial extractor about a year ago. The run capacitor had failed, but I had no means of testing it in situ at the time.

I bought the bosch green laser, takes the 12v Batteries. The laser is easily visible in bright conditions. The green lasers are much better than red ones.

I was hoping to shop around for lasers at Elex in Coventry this year, but it just got canned because of Corona.

I'd go with a TS80 electric soldering iron and a Quickcharge 3.0 powerbank nowadays. Much safer and temperature controlled. The powerbank is super useful for charging everything else under the sun as well. A gas one is probably better if you're only really soldering large cables or doing heatshrink though.

Got any bootlace ferrules hiding? 6/10mm for showers and smaller ones for flex and stranded data cabling?
@dsesuk
@dsesuk 5 лет назад
They are hiding in the floppy disk box, but the crimp tool is kept in the roller-box which will be the subject of the next video in the series!

I've never understood what to make of the dies we use for insulated butt crimps. The mutual proximity of the two compression points seem to be part of the reason for their lack of reliability. I've tried researching the thinking behind the design but so far nothing.
@mowcius
@mowcius 5 лет назад
@@westinthewest, I've always just put it down to cheap crimpers myself. Not sure if that's entirely the case but a set of Knipex 97 52 36 pliers is on my wish list. Either that or people using the wrong crimps for the cable. Those insulated crimps that everyone uses are not really designed or suitable for solid core cable.
@westinthewest
@westinthewest 5 лет назад
@@mowcius I bought a Klauke K507 thinking that'd solve all my problems, but I've ended up using uninsulated crimps and then heatshrinking over the connection. That method has been near 100% reliable. I've read differing opinions on crimping solid core cable but nothing definitive.

What is your primary field of work as not much requirement for most sparks to carry meter seals in their tool box and was the henley torx tool actually torx or is it a 3mm allen key. Also you have a few boddingtons bits have you tried itl (insulated tools ltd)
@dsesuk
@dsesuk 5 лет назад
Can't say I have any use for the meter seals except for the single solar PV installation I put in where I sealed the meter I installed for little more than shits and giggles. You're right, it is an allen key, it's this thing here: www.boddingtons-electricalstore.com/product-page/cooker-knob-allen-key-3-x-90mm Haven't tried ITL, but will look 'em up!
@bourneelectricalable
@bourneelectricalable 5 лет назад
Fair enough. When I had my mcs assessment they wanted to see meters sealed. Wasn't too sure if you were ex-dno and still had leftovers. Will we be expecting a April 1st video this year as I watched your electric analytical probe video in October oblivious to it's post date and was too in-depth reverse engineering in in my head before the video ended before the penny dropped and was cursing you lol.
@dsesuk
@dsesuk 5 лет назад
@@bourneelectricalable Yeah, I had my knuckles rapped on an NIC assessment once where the fuse wasn't sealed and I had pulled it to change out a CU. These days I book Haste of Leicester for fuse pulls/isolator installs as they're authorised to do it and their costs are reasonable. Sorry for the April Fool - if you don't clock the upload date on that one then it's six minutes of your life wasted! Doubt there will be another one, I don't have the imagination for it!
@bourneelectricalable
@bourneelectricalable 5 лет назад
Make that 12 minutes then as made 2 of my apprentices watch it who were helping me on an eicr of a 6300amp installation so despite not being April they saw it as a good wind up

I always carry seals as we often find the fuse unsealed... Handy but don't feel right leaving it unsealed especially if there are kids around

It is on the cards (and has been since the summer). I did make the vid, but wasn't happy with it. I've been rethinking it over Christmas so I hope to find the time to put something together soon, especially as the van has been tidied and washed over Christmas!
