First video with some tips & tricks. In this video I am going through the different tools and glues that I use when working with photo etch (PE). Topics are; getting PE of the fret, cleaning up PE with a diamond file, bending and shaping (annealing), gluing with CA and E6000, preparing/priming before painting.
I do prefer tools from Tamiya and glue from VMS like their Flexy 5K CA glue.
I hope that it will give you at least an insight into how I work and with which tools.

No problem Chris 😊 Your products are really the best. I have used quite a lot of them, and they are hands down the best on the market in my opinion. So thank you for making them!

Is it possible to use the primer on the whole PE sheet before removing the parts for assambly?
@NorwegianModellingBench
@NorwegianModellingBench Год назад
You could, and I do that for railings and stairs, but for parts that you are going to bend you will run the risk of destroying the primer. Another thing is that the glue will grip to the primer instead of the brass, which could give a too weak of a bond.

VMS extra fine black superglue is perfect because you can see exactly where to clean
@NorwegianModellingBench
@NorwegianModellingBench 11 месяцев назад
True, but can also give a pre-shading effect that you might not want.

A great help, thanks for pointing me here. I am a PE beginner and want to practice a bit before I start on my 1/200 Scharnhorst

Glad to be of help! Just ask, and I will try to answer. Many of the CV-6 build installments and my latest BB-63 installment show a lot of PE work and how I do it. I hope it can help.

Great video covering the essentials of working with PE. One tool that is very handy to have is a wax pencil for picking up small parts.

Thanks Johnathan! True, I have one as well that I got from my wife. I use it sometimes, but I prefer tweezers because I feel that I have better control.

Hi …..great video ….you’ve answered all my questions on this subject …have ordered a set of photo etch for my new Lancaster armoured car by copper state models ….ps what bending “press” would you recommend for a newbie at this…..medium price please

Glad it was helpful! It's a bit hard to say because I don't know which bends you might need to do. I bought the model you can see in the video because it gave me most options, and it is a lifelong investment. I guess if you go to you local hobby shop and take a look at the options you will find something that works for you. Sorry that I can't be of more help.

I also use the little candles you have for my CA glue. Something in the wax slows the CA setting process. So when you put a dob out to work with, it stays usable a lot longer before you need some fresh CA.

Thanks for the video and tips. I always manage to stuff up small PE one way or the other, but some of your products may actually assist with my issues. Hopefully I can get them down here in Australia. Can get Tamiya most certainly, but not sure about VMS.

Trevlig video!
