James, love your vids, but wish you’d be more careful with your language. Selling bitcoin for fiat profits is not “taking chips off the table” like we’re in some grungy casino. Especially not for long term hodlers. More likely they simply have decided to begrudgingly part with some bitcoin to buy something that improves their quality of life.

The truth is, people do sell. It would be factually incorrect for me to analyse the market and pretend this was not the case. Furthermore, Bitcoin is my savings. What should I spend my savings on? Whatever I want, that is the whole point. If folks don't use their Bitcoin to improve their life, and their families life, what is the point of holding it?
@@checkonchain Selling/trading away bitcoin I don’t have a problem with. I have a problem with the term “take chips off the table” which literally implies that bitcoin is a gambling tool. It’s not. It’s the superior savings mechanism that makes fiat look like a gamble by comparison. “Taking chips off the table” looks like acquiring bitcoin, not disposing of it. Which, by all means, is still an okay thing to do.
Please understand, that many people do take chips off the table, and what I am analysing is the reality, not the ideal. People also understand the terms 'chips off the table';. I have been explaining market concepts for many years, and the truth is, people do not intuitively understand jargon like 'Realised Profit'. It is necessary to use language that people understand to be an effective communicator. In objective analysis, the morals of the story are not important, the facts of the matter are.
@@checkonchain Look, I know your time is valuable and you don’t want to go in circles on this topic. But I implore you: why not just say “LTHs are selling bitcoin”? Everyone understands what that means. By saying “LTHs are taking chips off the table” you are assuming the reason behind their sale. It’s literally less accurate of a statement. You can’t know if they are selling bitcoin because they want to buy a nicer house, or because they are treating bitcoin as a speculative gamble and fleeing to the safety of fiat as “taking chips off the table” implies. I’m a LTH and save in bitcoin. If I sell during a rip, it would be accounted for in your data, but you would be incorrect to say that I’m doing it because “I’m taking chips off the table.” I would be doing it because Ive decided to raise my time preference and buy a better life, not because I feel like I need to exit the gambling room and flee to safety in fiat. Does that make sense? I understand that many LTHs sell during rips, that’s undisputed fact. But you don’t know what they are doing with the fiat proceeds. If they immediately use them to buy something, they’ve essentially used their bitcoin savings to buy something. That’s quite different than the attitude of “wow this crazy bitcoin thing really made me a lot of cash, I’m going to convert some of it into real money now (fiat) so that I don’t lose out on these gainz.” It’s a fiat mindset to say to talk about chips on a table, and I don’t see a way around it. @@checkonchain Chips on a gambling table are something that people temporarily use, with the end goal of getting more “real money.” By comparing bitcoin to gambling chips, you are essentially calling bitcoin “temporary funny money” as a means to get more fiat “real money.” Or you are assuming that LTHs who sell, see bitcoin that way. I’m a LTH and if I sell during the rip, it’s to buy a better life, not to take chips off the table. The data doesn’t tell you why I’d be selling, you’re making an unreasonable assumption of a fiat mindset.
