Moho Supremacy 🙌 I've been using it for a year now for my videos, and for a newbie animator, it was pretty fun & easy to learn. After Lost Marble acquired it it's only gotten so much better to use too, and I love the new updates they've been bringing in this year. Definitely great for people who want a more affordable and easier way into puppet animation. I can see why people would choose Toon Boom (I'd love to try it out someday), but I still feel like Moho is underrated
*okay 1, first, that is my inner urge in me doing that.* I really want to get Moho but it’s.. $400.. and I’m 15.. aha.. :”) It looks cool tho. So I can see why you like it!
As a beta tester for Moho and the person who did the arm rig in this video. I had ToonBoom when it was 3.5. All Toonboom had was a 3d environment with pegs. Harmony was only available to large studios with deep pockets. For those of us who can't draw get Moho. If you can draw Opentoons. If you want to draw and have a crapy rigging system then ToonBoom. The biggest problem I have with Toon Boom is "I do not rent software! " And the full price is insane. Dale
@Tantrum Tootsie Subscription allows one to use multiple copies of software for cheap. Perpetual licenses were never cheap. I used to think same as you too. But as I got deeper on the business side, I now understand that this model is a win-win.
not to mention when you have the permanent license and want to upgrade, you have to sign up at least for the silver support that increases the price every damn year for hardly any interesting new features. Moho turned out to be more my way to go
I use Toon Boom and love every second of it. Moho is great for rigging but that's just it. I've seen some cool stuffs from the program but it still feels limited. Toon Boom Harmony is capable of full-fledged hand drawn animation, cut-out animation and full 3d compositing thanks to its powerful node view. It truly is something else!!! No wonder why most studios are using it to produce animation on TV and streaming services. Even MLP the movie uses Harmony for its 2d threatrical movie a while ago (The Equestria girls movies were animated in Flash) and the results were stunning! The only 2 things I am envious of Moho is the easy IK bone system and proper interpolating vector layers. Deformers can create a similar function in Toon Boom but you cannot stack them with other deformers in the render view, which is a real bummer considering they work fine together in the OpenGL view. But I am creating a new kind of rig system to help rig and animate characters with more ease and fun! Feel free to check it out on my youtube channel
Yeah, Toon Boom is definitely the best, but if you're on a budget, the best option is to use Moho for rigging, compositing and effects, and Clip Studio, Krita, Opentoonz or Blender for FBF.
Moho is awesome, Toon boom awesome, and steep learning curve on the Nodes. Yes studios use Toon boom but I have worked on projects with Moho also, and the levels of things you can do are really getting closer for Moho.
Both have great tools, but Moho is easier - therefore if you are just started I recommend to start from Moho - because Toon Boom takes way more time to learn - but provides lots more tools to create a scene... Anyway, all animation programs need a hard work for creating animation - how good will be your animation, depends on your skill and will ))) Thanks for this video - was very interesting to watch!
I agree but still disagree, toon boom is the industry standard , might as well start with the best because your learning in moho wont help much in toon boom as the tools and workflows are very different, that of course for cut out and effects, drawing etc , frame by frame can be learned in any software
@@Marco-tp6zc Agree. Learning Moho will not make it easy if you want to switch to ToonBoom later, but Moho also has great tools and if you have a little company I would recommend Moho
I should warn you, at 2:46 -3:17, there’s a flashing sensation that could probably be problematic for someone with epilepsy or people who are prone to seizures.
Since the latest version, Moho has become more than a challenger; it's now a real game changer. The many new features whichhave been added to this very powerful software make it absolutely amazing. And we haven't seen all of its potential.
Thanks for your good advices. Now I can finally choose what I really need to continue my work.

Never tried ToonBoom, been using Moho since 2009 in everything from short films and commercials to features. It's practical, fast rigging and very versatile.
good comparison pretty sums up my research , moho drawing tools and frame by frame tools are nightmare to work with they really need to put more effort into this , the learning curve for toon boom is very steep because its built for big production pipelines , riggers , animators and compositors all use the same software its very feature rich , I only wish moho had better drawing and frame by frame tools , the only thing you can do in moho is import from 3rd party and rig but it does it well
Having used both Toon Boom and Moho on the same animated project I have to say that I prefer Moho. Both have their own learning curve but I find that Moho is better suited for individuals. Harmony is definitely the more feature rich application and it have been the industry standard for years. However I find that it is more gear for studio or team animation projects and you can get bogged down by it's complexity at times. On the other hand Moho has some great tools that get up and going fast with your animation so if you're just starting out it can be a huge benefit.
Well Moho doesn’t purposefully charge stupid high for a perpetual license Something that’s so helpful should not cost so much, because it’s not worth 2 grand, it’s a way to encourage people only pay for the subscription instead, which is harder to maintain then just saving the money to buy it
As an user of Moho for more than 10 years I can say is WAY FASTER to create a full animation with it than other softwares, animation, rigging, backgrounds, some fxs and yes, frame animation too even though is not the best in that matter.
Most animation studios like Snipple & Tonic DNA used Toon Boom Harmony in the Animaniacs revival for Hulu, except Titmouse in Vancouver which used Adobe Animate.
Sincerely, they are just tools. For a dope animation, The hard work can't be escaped. Harmony, Moho, TVpaint, Photoshop or whatever tool you use. Depending on your style.
I have both. They are both great, BUT I would say as a whole Toonboom is better since you can do a full production in it. Design, animation, compositing can all be done in the one software. Moho can be great for rigged shows, but it doesn't have the end to end capabilities.
there is something else that is not counted with mold if you make a big scene the program slows down unless you have a very good computer, which does not happen in toon boom
@@Jhizzle473me too bro I was don't know how I move character with bones it moves like a rubber or plastic or paper who cut in half and parts of body like arms and legs and also head doesn't move with other body that moves in weird way I want to find easy way how to move it well
Im a beginner and Ive tried starting with procreate on ipad. I discover toonboom harmony and completely love it for its functions despite i didnt like the interface
Thank you for the feedback! Our team of animators love it too. It's an amazing piece of software, especially in rigging and puppet animation. But while Harmony lacks a bit in simplicity, it covers up for it in terms of power.
I beg to differ. For classic frame by frame animation Moho is a lot more effective without the complex nodes as you have very good control over every single vector point that you can animate individually without redrawing, same with animated mesh, skip all the complex node effects and just slap in a png layer of a blurry shadow, create mesh and you get a very flexible character shadow animated by your manual input/sculpting
This video may be old but trust, if I had the money for Toon Boom I would've gotten it. The prices are insane, it's not worth it tbh. Idc if Toon Boom is more advanced or has more features, whatever. The prices are too high, especially in today's economy, the only way you can afford it is as if you were born rich. I'll get Toon Boom when it's not so freaking expensive. In the meantime, I'll be using Moho.
Almost had a heart attack when I saw the Harmony prices at 07:49 because the annual billing for Advanced is very much NOT $80, it's $500, like none of those prices are right.
I had to use a by then outdated version of Moho to animate on a project about two years ago. Not a good experience. The program proved rather inflexible in animation and my work had to be tweaked so much by a person much more proficient in its technical use that I couldn't effectively use any shots for my reel because it wasn't really much of my own animation anymore.
Moho is nice, but seriously ToonBoom offers a whole array of features Moho has not even started developing. The node-based approach is weird but seems effective. The drawing tools and assistance in ToonBoom is simply highly superior. The downside is that ToonBoom is way too expensive and a leech with a subscription model.
Just to add a note because maybe someone is not aware of this: "Lifetime" purchases are only by version. If you want a new version you still need to pay.
@@av3ngers17 no no, updates within the version are free. So 13 to 13.5 are all free. Updating to version 14 (not even an option yet but someday it probably will be) from version 13.5 would cost you something. Please note that if you already own version 13 they would give you a deep discount for upgrading to version 14.
I think its hard to compare animation software because a great artist/animator can make them all look great! Its more about whats easier and faster i would say, not better or worse
Moh0 is famous solely/merely for its simplicity cuz its only for animation unlike toon boom(t.bharmony is also 4 other purpises like games...bla bla!.😂)
The price for harmony is ridiculous. Those monthly payment sucks because you be paying for a life time and never own it. Buy moho for $400 and it is yours.
