Man my biggest gripe with Superior Drummer is that snare volume. Gotta pull like 6 db out of it from the construct if you're gonna run it at %100 velocity

The song is killer, the playing is killer, the drum is ok (maybe some more "room" for the snare?), the lead guitars are ok, the rhythm guitars are, well, honestly very bad, expecially for your high standards. It's all trebles, fizziness and gain...I'll be honest it soundsd like a metal zone directly into the audiocard. Sorry :(

The room thing is something I kinda struggle with on The Metal Foundry, usually routing it to an aux with reverb brings it out better and makes up for it a little. But that would be cheating in this case. Other Toontrack kits like Made of Metal have a way better room sound but I don't like the overall tones that much. Thanks for watching :)

And, perhaps the guitars are fizzier than normal. But hey, learn by doing. The Metal Master Bus preset brings out A LOT of highs in this mix, the stock guitar patches actually sound pretty great though. I'd usually EQ out all the nasty frequencies on the Guitars and Cymbals but again, that'd be cheating too much for an 'all Toontrack' video :)

+Pete Perhaps I missed the whole "challenge" thing that is behind this, because I know for a fact that if you are allowed to use the tools you have, you would not have any of those issues. That said, if I am getting it correctly and there's some kind of competition going on, best of luck! ;)

EZMIX 2 is legit but the prices are quite high in the scheme of things, I bought a 5 packs and haven't been able to bring myself to buy more. Competition is fierce these days! Especially when iOS comes into the calculation. EzDrummer 2 is the same way....

I love EZDrummer, (never tried Superior), but nobody can top BIAS for amp modeling in my opinion. The tone in this is a bit harsh on the ears. Great demo though :]

Yeaup :D Also, it's noise suppression pedal is incredible. You'd swear it was hardware, and not just a simple software gate. Does wonders for sure

And that's exactly why the competition needs to be encouraged to get better tones. This doesn't sound half bad though - question is how it reacts to dynamics, but we usually won't be able to tell anyway.

I have a problem which is kind of frustrating. I just bought ez mix with 6 packages. I did everything like you did, same presets. But my guitar tone sounds like crap. Muffled and very unpleasant to the ear. It also happened with neural dsp, bias fix. My gear is: Cubase elements Universal audio arrow Mac mini Ibanez prestige 7 string with dimarzio titan pickups. Ibanez premium with dimarzio evolution I’m running out of options literally. The only thing I didn’t change was the guitar cable... it would be stupid that my crappy tone would be the result of a cable... got any ideas on this issue? Btw, like your videos and subscribed.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I have my guitar running threw a focusrite interface set on inst to my desktop that has Cubase and Easymix 2. I've added Metal Gods 3 pack. My guitar sound is not even close to yours. Is it because I'm using headphones? Or maybe my stock BC RICH villian 8 string pick ups really suck? The tone seems sorta weak and dull. I have my gaming headset plugged into the front monitor headset output. Or is it because I running it direct and your using a mic on a amp?

I don't like EZMix2 using it 'cause it generates a LOT of noise. Some could call me a noob or whatever, but I prefer Amplitube 4. And with the drums, I prefer Addictive Drums 2. Sowy but no sowy. Great video btw

I am one of those guys that have been playing guitar for over 25 years, and have some seriously serious lack of knowledge when it comes to EQ and things like that. EZMix2 has completely fixed that for me! If you have Zero knowhow abot EQ, mixing and mastering, I can't recommend this enough!

the most important thing is to just start doing it because your first couple of projects will sound kinda bad no matter how good your gear is. it's a learning process like everything else. in fact, if you start out simple and get good with whatever is available to you right now, you'll be able to appreciate it much more once you finally upgrade to something better. and you'll be able to actually hear the differences in order to decide if an upgrade is really doing it for you!

Thanks for the video, I've been using EzMix for a few months and always had a problem with the fact that in order to have a certain attack, I would use a TSE preamp sim in front of ezmix on Keith-Conquering tone, which led to noise problems and me being forced to use a gate and cut off most of my beloved sustain. What you have shown is absolutely magic. Did you use any additional noise suppressors? I wouldn't have known about the Mark Lewis pack without this video as I never check Toontrack news. Cheers mate :D

+Ricardo Comino Bernat Regarding productivity, don't find reasons to distract yourself, I need to get better at that too. For groups and busses you just pick it up as you go along, it's important not to confuse them with 'send' tracks in Cubase though, you'll double the signal if you send it to a buss instead of routing through a buss. I've honestly grown to hate toontrack software. There is so little freedom with them, aside from maybe Superior 2.

+Mike TC I hear what you're saying. I think they focus on giving you something useable really quick without lots of adjustment. EZ Mix isn't very tweakable but the tones it gives you, especially for bass, are decent straight out of the box. Superior 2 is the opposite though :)

+3 First Names For the programming, I find the piano roll a lot easier to work with. But, I do use it for programming in the velocities of the hits as there's a lot more control. Thanks for watching! :)

For me the old piano roll is just way faster. The Ctrl + D shortcut doesn't work as well in the drum editor so I open that up for editing the velocity of the hits. Thanks for watching! :)

Man, that is really cool! Would love to watch (and hear, my god those individual channels rock just separately) some mixing. Music listeners maybe does'nt like it that much, but the guitar playing fanatics like I am would like it a lot. I actually really dont understand the levels of effecting that one channel goes throu in your setup, tho I am watching your videos for a while, and I am crawling towards an engineering degree. :D

I've seen a lot of engineers saying bad things about EZ Mix in forums. I have EZ Mix and Superior Drummer 2 and love them both. If you don't know anything about mixing and expect some products to do it for you, don't expect a good result. If you know what you're doing, EZ Mix can be a great tool. A lot of the metal tones are a little too harsh on the high end for my taste, but a small EQ dip can easily fix it. The packs I have are Alt Rock, Ambient, Amps, Bass Toolbox, Drum Toolbox, the original EZ Mix 1 and 2 packs, Lead Vocals, Mastering 2, Metal Guitar Gods 3, Rock, Rooms & Verbs, and Vocal Toolbox. Sweetwater was having a sale where you could get 6 packs for $120. Usually, a 6 pack is $149. I also got SD2 for $99. That's currently the price to upgrade from SD1 to SD2. I never had SD1 and I only paid the upgrade price for SD2. Sweetwater doesn't disappoint.

I honestly don't know how to explain to someone how to write riffs or songs, but the best advice I can think of is to listen to the music you love, identify the song structures and what you like about their music and incorporate it into your own songs.
