Wow! You are an inspiration. Thanks for sharing the details. Totally what I have been dreaming about (but procrastinating on). Of course some of us techno lackeys might have to wait for the first production models. But you need to just keep playing & inventing. Such a cool thing.
Thanks John. Although I haven't posted for a while I am still gigging. This week I edited my drum nodes in the drums from hell and I'm still enjoying the freedom "playing the drums " live rather than using a sequencer Thanks for your comment
Thanks Jesse. Still doing live gigs. It’s really good to use this format as it is truly live music and I’m not at the mercy of a backing track. I now have vocals, drums , guitar, octave down bass , harmonica and real time vocal harmonies I occasionally use a prerecorded loop of all this so I can do guitar solos. Unfortunately my video cameras have given up so I haven’t done any more videos recently. Cheers BlaMM
These are Drumtech pedals ---used to be sold by Alternate Mode ..Both the fatkat and the hi hat pedals will both do the job as the hihat pedals also have a trigger out jack.. They haven't been manufactured for several years...I mounted and wired them in that wooden box I made. Alternate mode now sell some with small reverse beaters with an adjustable chain drive I think these may work ok for this use.. The drumtech are probably not want real drummers want but they sure suit my purpose well.
Thanks Dan. I’m still doing it twice a week at a restaurant I just use two pedals for this gig to save space ...I put them on a foam sheet on top of my leads box I have to put the mic stand on foam as well to stop the acoustic sound of the pedals travelling up the stand Cheers Al
Hey! Look at that fantastic drum rig! I'm gonna go ahead and add to the pile of interested folks in your rig. I like your playing and singing but brudda your foot drumming is a rare treat on here, especially for people like me who have been wanting to do exactly what you're doing! I have an Alesis dm8 brain waiting for a rig like this. Thanks for posting.
Hey Jon Thanks for your enthusiasm and kind words .. This demo is a couple of years old now and the drumming has now become as natural as playing the guitars.... Its great being able to do gigs with this freedom without using a sequencer and makes playing music so much more fun as the tempo and drumming style becomes a real time live instrument allowing different versions each night [as the mood takes you ] A relatively new addition is the iPad with set list maker installed ...This has a song list with a metronome I set to the speed of each song This plays in my in my Shure IEM's I can override it if necessary but it helps to keep the character of each song separate cheers--- Al
Thanks mat. I have worked out some patches for the Ax-Efx 2 so I can have guitar bass and vocals using both out put busses. I use a separate sound card for the drums to get the best headroom .for them .I'll post this when I have time to make the video
Very nice use of the DrumKat peds. I have a few of those kicking around somewhere and Roland RM7? Thanks for the inspiratiion do something with it while I play keys.
I tried to reply when you posted this but was unsuccessful ... Now it seems to work ...I will look into ezplayer- pro..but I presume this is just triggering a sequence ...Does it allow you to control the speed of the sequence unreal time? My main aim was to learn another "instrument" and gain the flexibility of not using a programmed backing when playing live and have got good feedback from muso's at gigs Thanks for your comment --sorry about the late reply BMM
wow very cool i deal you remind me of neil young , us band people have to thank of ways to do one man band things now days case the war with Karaoke and dj case most place now days will not pay a full band ty for this post give me i deals and love the match box you rock
Thank You Good to hear the feedback I have just done a new video AM I EVER GONNA SEE YOUR FACE AGAIN--Cover Check it out .This is recorded straight off my live setup Cheers Allan
Barry. This is a reply I have made before but it wouldn't post 2 options 1/-- if you wish to use the samples in the DM5 .. I connect 2 triggers in parallel to one of 2 female jack sockets I mounted on a piece of plastic electrical conduit mounted across the back of my rack case . This is the socket I hook one pedal up to. I do this again with another two triggers joined to the other female socket and plug my other drum trigger pedal into that . Then I put a snare drum onto one of the joined triggers and a high hat onto the other of that pair. I manipulate the gain and velocity curve of each trigger so I have in effect layered these two sounds using velocity to get the effect. Very light velocity with the pedal give HHat and slight snare and as I hit it harder the snare sounds louder. You can put .3 triggers on each pedal if you like. It just becomes a bit harder to juggle the sounds using velocity . On the other pedal put kick and a different HHat . I went further and used more pedals but it does lock up the DM5 sometimes. I have recently gone back to these DM5 sounds as I have a restaurant job at the moment and the drums are very quiet so you can't hear the drop in quality. Faster to set up and I don't have to bring my MacBook 2/- using the "Drums From Hell" on my now ancient MacBook Pro This give a fantastic drum sound. Better for bigger gigs!! Bit harder to get the hang of but worth the effort. You need a laptop ( MacBook is good ) and a sound card( interface). I use the Native Instruments one. (My RME Babyface died )Great sound and pretty cheap for this quality-- Komplete Audio 6 -- This can also be used for recording as well if you have a home studio. Without going into too much detail the DFH Kit allows you to layer as many samples(sounds) as you like buy making a node. For eg. Different high hat, snare and crash cymbal articulations using velocity Gives a varied and real sounding drums sound. (Make up another for the kick drum pedal )This node is the assigned a midi note number which is assigned to a DM5 trigger and a pedal is hooked up to that trigger...On my patch bay on the rear of my case I have two dual trigger sockets for the DM5 sounds and 5 more for my 5 pedals when I use DFH and the MacBook ---They all use different DM5 triggers .. I notice there are programs available now to capture screen shots when explaining computer movements. I may get one as if you are not computer savvy mere words are hard to convey how to use some programs If there is some point I have not explained well enough please feel free to contact me again Cheers Allan. aka BlaMM
If you involve a computer, just use a midi interface and it would take about 1-3 minutes to set up in max/msp. If you plan on incorporating a computer and want control over midi behavior, whatever you want, use max/msp. cheers
Hi I only just found your post so in case you haven’t worked it out it’s the Toontrack Superior drummer 2 that allows this. It allows you to make up nodes which let you layer different sounds on the one trigger based on velocity settings. You give then note numbers as you would a single drum sound. The DM5 allows you to have the 5 triggers assigned to different note numbers and hence triggers The nodes can be made up of mantnarticulations and drums Unfortunately Toontrack have discontinued SD2 but apparently SD3 still allows this but they don’t use nodes . When I changed laptops I found I could still download SD2 from my account so I didn’t need to go to SD3 Better late than never
