@@FoundingFathers2.0 Thanks for the recommendation man..that was so good i didn't notice 5mins had passed!😆He's the kind of guitarist i could never tire of hearing!I want more!✌💛🤘
Dokken wrote some killer tunes. Definitely weren’t the atypical hair metal band, had a heavy side. George Lynch is still a man on top of his game. Much respect to this cover, Ellefson has such a heavy bottom end on his bass, totally badass. Vocalist totally owned the song and the drummer and guitarist amazing chops. Love the R Rhoads inspired Jackson.
Part of why I agree with Eddie Trunk that we need to get rid of the term “hair metal” some bands get lumped in that shouldn’t be. For example would you equate Dokken and W.A.S.P. with Winger and Poison?
@@kudukilla agree totally....the term hair metal doesn’t do justice to those bands. Those musicians especially Winger, WASP could really play their instruments, the image betrays them.
The only thing that really kept them from becoming the best was their penchant for heartache and heartbreak in their catalog. They started sounding really Pop-like in the later years.
Really good character as well. He comes across as a very nice and humble individual. I’m sad about how things turned out for him and Dave McClain in Machinehead.
@@Grimeyhoob I'm a Bay Area guy. Been following Phil & Vio for a long time. I remember Vio-lence at The Stone then MH right after them...I follow him on IG. He does live streams, interacts all the time. Answers folks questions, etc. He has a bar in Dublin...I swear I gotta get over there for Karaoke night on Wednesdays. It's like a 20 min drive.
I say this with the most respect. I agree, Lynch was/is the shit. Underrated? Maybe a little. However, in my opinion Akira takasaki from the band Loudness was the most underrated guitarist of the eighties hands down. Him and George have mastered that deep crunchy distortion tone that us kids were drooling over and trying to copy. If you don't initially agree, all I ask is that you do listen to 1984's thunder in the east. 1986's lightning strikes. And 1988's hurricane eyes and give me your honest opinion. Lots of live shit and documentaries all over you tube. The fact that they were Japanese selling out arenas in Europe, they knew they had to work that much harder to have success in the USA and here in Canada. He was recognized by a few of the guitar player magazines but a hard sell for Circus mag or Hit Parader etc... Looking forward to hearing your opinion. (Stay safe my friend)
I was going to say this kicks ass, but I'd just be repeating all the previous comments. This kicks ass. Used to hearing Lynch's beautiful, wailing, intro to Just Got Lucky immediately after this.
@@432b86ed fair call 👍 actually who I am kidding? You're totally right haha Sorry dude I must've been in a shitty mood when I commented, too much of that on the internet already! It's the first time I've been able to really focus on his technique actually, that's more to my point, SP is always such a fun party live even it's a piss-take parody they're doing it right so it's still homage tribute but they're keeping the flame alive for the next generation & are a gateway band now for sure. They always had the chops since Metal Shop 🤘 Atomic Punks= best VH cover band ever
Instantly transported to my dorm room in 1984. Funny thing is your version sounds much meatier than I remember. My roommate at the time didn't consider the album to be that good until he saw Dokken in concert. He came back and put the album on again with newfound appreciation.
@@dragonfly8341 I listened to some of that stuff a year or so ago - I was heavily into thrash metal during the 80's, but never really heard Vio-Lence. Took me a while to get used to Sean's vocals, but yeah, Phil and Rob shredded it up. And fuck Machine Head - they're a second rate Pantera rip-off band. I bought their first album back in the mid-90's and sold it shortly after. Really generic shit.
@@dmitryowens haha yeah Sean Killian's voice was always the barrier for everyone, the most manic of all the Bay Area thrashers, only eclipsed by the heaviest SF bands like Sadus & Possessed, but their vocal styles were more extreme. Great that Killian is healthy & well again & Vio-Lence is back in business 🤘
I'm so sorry that I am just seeing this video now, but this is awesome. Russell is an awesome vocalist, Phil is awesome on guitar, Stix is right on time, and Dave is badass on bass and backing vocals!!! I don't know if this is a one off or this is a side project, but I would love to see and hear more of this!!!! You guys sound awesome!!!
This is living proof that it does suck to get old. Ar the very least, we now we know how it would look like if Kevin James fronted a Rock band.... Super ridiculous!😅
Heck of a cover of one of the best songs from one of the best bands of the 80’s hair metal scene. Dokken’s strengths were the harmonies of Don and Jeff and the riffs and solos of George. Vocals were on point here and the guitars were note for note spot on! Rokken with Dokken! 🤟🏻
"We used to hunt these guys with Ratt and Poison and Dokken shirts and kick them out of the gigs, until one day all guitarists we gathered up and had to admit we were playing Lynch and DeMartini licks...." K. King.....
@@irmasil3 ok, I will. Just kidding. But without Dokken along with heavy bands of the time I wouldn't have graduated to Slayer and other thrash metal bands.
I don't think it's "better." It's different. In the 80s, I'm pretty certain, most people would prefer Dokken's version - the screaming leads, softer vocals, etc. On this current version...it's definitely heavier and modern...and fresh. So...I don't think it's better.
GREAT COVER!!! While I'm a diehard LoG and Slayer fan, i have my mellow moments. Dokken is definitely one of those bands I listen to during those times. Very nice job to the singer. Don Dokken had a serious set of pipes back in the day.
I truly wish Mr. Allen could sing for Dream Theater... Fantastic job from all of you actually. I think we're all ready for things to get back to normal and live performances resume.
Why is it that ANY comment on ANY video gets first place at the top if someone mentions "How underestimated" something is? Go read comments on any video, It is a very strange occurrence on You tube.
This is absolutly fukin killer!!!!!! Thank you guys for bringing this song and nailing it!!!! I know it wasnt easy ,,, im a 80s rock / metal guy tooo.!!!!!!!!!
Back then music was great and changing so fast ( pun intended ). From the age of Sabbath, Deep purple, Rainbow, Alice Cooper Scorpions,UFO,Priest,Madden, and all the fill- quite riot, dokken, yngwie, to venom, mercifull fate, exciter, exodus, metallica, slayer. Then more local flavor- annihilation, violence, forbidden evil, death angel, legacy, flip side dri, cromags, suicidal, voi vod and all post stuff ( dk, misfits, bad brains) european flare- celtic frost, destruction, creator, sacrilege and tons shit I forgot and can't list ( sod, crumbsuckers, ludichrist, on and on ) enough.... Ya then funk, industrial, bungle, grunge, ( let's not forget "the cure" and likes) all pretty amazing!! As time goes on it's harder to find unique sounds. They are there just not as prevalent. Thank you....good night🖤🤘😴🕳️
Ha! Grateful to have lived the actual Dokken experience at many o’ Dokken concerts. Better than hav’n Wheatles for breakfast I tell ya. Tooth and nail, good for metal soul oh yeah. Good job fellas. (Actually, thanks Don, George, Mick and Jeff)
Much as I was all about thrash metal back in the day, I enjoyed Dokken for George Lynch's playing (and that fabulous TONE) as well, to be fair and honest. The rest of the band, especially Don Dokken himself--easily the worst front man I ever saw, and a weak singer, to boot--were pedestrian at best, IMO. George was where it was at! Sir Russell made this his own, by virtue of superior vocal firepower and attitude. I had no idea who the drummer was, but he did well all throughout the song, and in general this was a more than adequate run through.
The musicians are great. They play very well. I like 'em. The only thing I don't like is the vocals. He sounds bad. Don Dokken is the best for these songs.
When I saw them live Satchel even shamelessly stole a good portion of George's intro solo for 'Paris Is Burning' & passed it off as his own & the young audience would've been totally clueless & thought it was his composition, Steel Plagiar lol
