I was at this concert! My boyfriend (now husband) was in the band that opened for them...The Reggae Scorchers opened for them. My introduction to a lifelong love of Toots and the Maytals.
Wow what a so true statement ,,i had tickets to see Toots in 2020 bristol .it was cancelled due to covid and this beautiful man passed away 12/09/2020 ...absolutely devastated
RIP Toots, the lord's pressure just dropped when you arrive at the gates. Thank you for your love of all, your spirit in you music. You are and will always be what is good in the world....
Remember that American rock and roll audiences didn't know much about reggae in 1975. Mainstream radio certainly wasn't playing it. The closest things that we may have heard were Paul Simon's Mother and Child Reunion, Eric Clapton's cover of I Shot the Sheriff, and a few tracks by The Rolling Stones or the J Geils Band. So Toots was really breaking new ground here. Then fast-forward 20 or 30 years, and Toots was playing festivals and to huge audiences of adoring fans who knew all the words to his songs. He was a pioneer and a legend whose music brought joy to so many. He truly showed the world that Reggae Got Soul.
I’m not a mind reader, but I think Toots Hibbert would want us all to live our lives with the joy he put out in this video. R.I.P Toots Hibbert. Thank you for giving us You
Fondly remembered as a 15 year old mini Skinhead at the start of the 70s., we loved this and always got dance floor filled and everyone trying to back flip , great times. RIP Toots, you sir were and still are a fricken legend,
Great men never dies they only sleep, their lives continues through their great work left for all generations!!! Please know this song he’s singing about his prison assign number locked up I. Jamaica 🇯🇲 for ganja!!! How sad now it’s sold like chocolate!!! Take your rest bro!!!🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Lady M. Palmer, I'm one of the luckiest white men in the UK fortunate enough that my parents had black friends back in the late 60's through to mid 70's who introduced them to all the trojan reggae sounds and more heavier reggae groups. But I'm so glad that I was introduced to those sounds at such a young age because it has never left me. My parents had all the trojan reggae label various artists 12" albums that sadly became so scratched or damaged over the years, I think they were thrown away. As soon as I hear one of those tracks played I get goosebumps. I've managed to obtain most of those songs back on DVD and some like Leaving Rome by Jo Jo Bennet, I've had to ask an old neighbour of mine who's friend is also into reggae like me who burned the song onto a disc for me. Thank god that this genre of music came about for so many to enjoy. This track is one of my favourites along with Double Barrel by Dave n Ansell Collins, Hurt so good by Susan Cadogan and many more I could mention. These songs will last forever. So glad you're a fan too.
Yes. Nobody can touch Toots. The Beatles????? Fuck off! Toots and the Maytals. Unique. Sick of hearing how The Beatles were the best band in the world????? Toots and the Maytals, nobody comes anywhere near.
There are a lot of best videos..! ;) but I agree, Toots is living Legend! and of course the unforgettable Jacob Miller at Peace concert ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZSiLcGZI4MA.html !
I had the good fortune to meet Toots at the bar in the Terra Nova hotel in Kingston Jamaica in 2011 and share a few Red Stripes, and some time with this gracious, funny and incredibly talented entertainer. Toots, you are missed. Thanks for sharing this video.
Woke up this morning and seen that a legend has left this plane of existence, immediately rolled a splif and celebrating his life. Move your feet to the Jamaican beat!
the james brown, elvis of reggae ska ! seen him twenty years ago and he completely smashed the place apart in london,he was the most energetic amazing dancer and vocalist he grabbed an held my hand for about four seconds of this song! to connect with one of my true heroes!
Plenty of reggae music still happening. Lots of 70s style stuff but you won't find Jamaicans playing it and you won't find people really doing stuff like this anymore because at the time. This was new and people were cut from a different cloth back then than today. Not knocking everyone that does stuff today but it's a diff vibe for sure
My god Toots is not in this world no more to his wife , children the music fraternity , Jamaica, the whole world the great one has gone .😔🙏🏽🙏🏽💖🕊👑🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🎤
I was fortunate to see Toots & the Maytals perform in ‘98 in New Haven, CT and they put on a fantastic performance full of energy and great music. It was a show that just made you feel good and I remember leaving feeling happy and sweaty and stoned. Good times.

Then "The Harder They Come" hit the avante garde movie theaters & midnight movies in '73. Already been hearing some of those tunes on the underground stations by the time the movie hit town. Instant love!!! Still, only the independent movie houses would play the movie. It remains one of the most joyous yet most honestly brutal movies ever. If you haven't seen it, try to find it. The film is entirely Jamaican: the music, script, actors & crew...only the distribution is Hollywood.
tooooooooots saw him in switzerland maybe ten years ago.sooo coool.messing with his backing singers.toots was the man.everyone was dancing at the back of the room.

He had two visitors from abroad not too long ago and I believe, that did it. All my WORDS of comfort and massive energy of Father's love, to his family and friends. He was an icon, a true entertainer and one of my biggest idols.
So I did a Toots tribute medley on all percussion instruments. This song kicks it off. Check it out here! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iSpZeK52ksQ.html
