First time watcher! I'm currently half way through your video and I have to say one, great video! And two, I love how you describe/explain why you like the primer and how you use it! Not all youtubers do that I've noticed, but I do love that you explain it! (Alright, back to your video!) :)
If you use a moisturizer it will help with the oil also. Because I don't really think all the primers and make up will help. If anything it will make your skin dry. So then your face will make more oil.
Makayla Moisturize for sure.. I definitely agree. Moisturizers give your skin the oil that it needs to keep it from producing in excess.. primers also help with keeping your makeup in place and controlling excess oils during the day.
Great info!!! I'm currently using No7 Beautifully Matte and LOVE it. I'm sooo glad that I found it because I REALLY didn't want to kick out the coin for Becca.
I'm Asian but I really like how the way u talk it's different from other RU-vidr that are white no offense I meant it in a good way ,usually they r kinda yelling and talk to fast
First, I would like to say that I loved your video, because I have that unbelievable oily skin!! Now, I have used both mattifying primers & still find my T-zone get oily or shiny within the first hour or two of my day, really saddens me.. Now that I have watched your video, if I were to start applying the first 3 steps (mattifying rescue gel, water primer, & porefessional) to my makeup routine then the mattifying primer, do you believe that would help to prolong my oils from seeping through my makeup as quickly as it has been?
Girl this video came right on time! I think I'm gonna try the Loreal Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base for my smile lines before I purchase that NARS Instant Line and Pore Perfecter that you was telling me about yesterday. I think I rather try something affordable before I ball out on NARS🙈. What do you think? Love this video! It's so much better to have the labels slide in from the side!!!! Yasssss!!!🙌🏽💁🏽 I love it!!!
+Andrea Renee Thanks boo!! You were actually the second person that I saw add the labels on the side, and I was like YAAASSSS!!! It takes a little more time to get all of the photos and find the prices, but I think it's definitely helpful for sure! I would definitely recommend trying the Loreal primer. The consistency is super similar to the Tarte primer and the Smashbox primer, so it may actually work for your smile lines. It does a really good job of filling in pores to be drugstore product!
really enjoyed seeing these recommendations, as i am also oily all the time -- even as I'm washing my face, i am still oily/shiny -- kinda girl. I'm also acne-prone, so i can't layer up all those prep products. i just start powdering within seconds of applying foundation and powdwr when i get shiny, which is about 20 minutes later. my favorite primer is the hourglass. so how do you personally feel as far as whether they are dupes? i haven’t heard that much about the nyx angel veil, but i would be willing to try it since the hourglass is so darned expensive. thanks for this video!
+jcjccmz Hey love!! I have tried the Hourglass primer, and I absolutely LOVE that one as well. I didn't have one on hand, which is why I didn't mention it in this video. The consistency of the NYX and Hourglass primers is pretty much identical. I will say that the Hourglass one works a little bit better when you compare the longevity, but overall... they are very close dupes for sure!
For my oily girls like myself I have been using the Black Radiance shine control primer to control the oils; Milani Prime Shield face primer mattifying+ pore-minimizing oil free primer; and the Maybelline Prime primer * base blur + smooth oil free primer. The makeup setting spray that is a dupe from Urban Decay makeup setting spray is the Loreal Infalliable pro-spray & set makeup extender spray. These products I learned about from watching the Glamtwins and from other youtubers and since I am just getting into makeup these work for my oily skin.
you guys need to try the Mirabella primer! I am sooo oily. and this primer just helps with oil control no matter what foundations I use plus I haven't heard any body review these super under rated! it's my holy grail. and I have tried many.many.many primers both high end and drugstore
Very helpful video. One thing I'll admit is that you're probably one of the few beauty vloggers who can go whole video (or even 10 seconds) without jump cuts.
This was a super informative and helpful video. So many other videos suggest these products but don't give in an in-depth, detailed explanation of the differences and how they perform. Thank you for this!
i have becca primer & have trouble with it. i put on as direction says. i put it on at 7am & by 11am i am shinny. Am I doing something wrong in the application?
This is my very first video I have watched from your channel, thank you so much for the advice. I have super oily skin that is no joke, I could wash my face and then have it be oily in minutes again, no primers really helped me deal with that and only made my face feel even more oily. I'll definitely give some of these a try :) P.S you seem like a really pleasant person so I subscribed♡
This was an awsome video! Very explanatory! I have the smashbox pore gilling one and I wanted to ask, do you think that the porefessional is better? Or you think they are the same? Also I wanted to literally yell to all oily people out there that I was extremely oily all my life and then I started using Niacinamide +Zn and now I'm combination at worst!! It has saved my life!! It's a miracle worker!!
Thanks for the great video...... I really like the NYX pore filler for smoothing but really need to try the Becca primer. Can you do a video on setting powders for oily skin....thanks
This is the first video I have watched from your channel and I have really enjoyed it. I do have oily skin and I do have enlarged pores, do you recommend using both on of each other, if so which one would you put on first?
Pore blurring primers really aren't "good" for oily skin at all... everyone I know (including myself) with oily skin says that it breaks the foundation up sooner and causes MORE oiliness than if you didn't use it at all... :/
Amber Dickerson thanks so much for your feedback! I have extremely oily skin and have never experienced this issue with pore blurring primers. Everyone's skin is different, and sometimes it could also be a combination of the moisturizer, primer and the particular foundation that you are using that is giving you that result. But of course, if it doesn't work for you, you're welcome to skip that step. :)
it really does. the areas i use my porefessional at get the most and faster oily... probably that's because of the creamy smooth texture this primer has.
since i watched ur video,i decided to buy the becca primer tomorrow at sephora. i have very oily skin and looking for a primer that can really help controlling the oil and i heard some youtubers suggested this brand. i hope it works on me.
Wow! What an awesome video, can't wait to try some of your recommendations. I'm new to primers, I was trying to do without but this oily nose won't let me be great. Thanks lovely!
FashionablyFayy hi I just came across your channel and I loved this video and how well you explained each product. Now I have a little question for you. I'm really struggling with my t-zone and I've tried several primers to control the oils on my nose and forehead it's a nightmare because it becomes so oily after like an hour. I've tried the makeup forever Mattifying primer and my oils still come through within and hour on my nose.. Do you really think the Becca one would make a difference ??? Thanks a lot
I appreciate this video! I used the Becca Primer recently and it does a good job of controlling oil. I am going to try some of these primers you suggested in the future :)
I just discovered your channel 😊 Really good information, I appreciate it alot! I have very oily skin, hormonal acne, etc. Yes! I have a hard time finding makeup products that work for my skin and to control my oil, which has really negatively affected my desire to wear and experiment with makeup 😏 I thought it was me and my inexperience and lack of knowledge. Now im realizing they are just alot of shitty skin care and makeup products out there for oily skin. 😉 I never considered layering primers before, very interesting. All around good video, much food for thought. Thank you for bringing back that desire to experiment with makeup.
I got a sample of the makeup forever mattifying primer from sephora along with a sample of kat von d lock it tattoo foundation and WHAAAT?! The two kept my oily areas( nose and tops of cheeks) looking great. And you're right, the MUF mattifying one is not for anything less that OILY skin types. Awesome video-new subscriber!
I happened upon your video via Benefit's new mattifying primer...I guess you are pretty famous! 😉 Nice job with your video! I just wanted to add my 2¢. I have been using primers forever, especially when I wanted to make certain that my make-up stayed on all day. I have used many different brands, but I think that my favorite continues to be the Smashbox one that is oil-free *and* has spf. I continue to have combination skin, even though it should be dry and withered. I am not sure why I used that particular Smashbox formulation in the beginning--was it the spf or the oil free factor that appealed to me the most? I'm going to guess that it was the oil free formula because I still don't like the feeling of creamy things on my face. So for those with combination skin, that might be a good one to try. I think that it would be a good option for those with oily skin too, since it is oil free, but non-drying to the skin. One last thing...those who are still feeling oily after using the primers etc. might consider switching foundations, as I think it could be possible that there skin is reacting to the make-up. And what's the conventional wisdom these days on finishing powder to help soak up the oil? Someone had raised a concern about all of the primers possibly not being good for one's skin. I don't know if the primers have silicone in them or whatever it is that they are now taking out of hair care products, because they have been found to be unhealthy for us. I'm just saying...
I have the Becca primer and honestly does NOTHING for my skin to control my oils... any advice from any ladies or gentlemen would be greatly appreciated.. TIA 😉
Hi! Thanks for this Video I was looking for a good primer, that will cover my big pores, specially at the T-Zone, where my skin it's also oily. I found the way you describe each product very well and informative, also the way you use everyone of these in your face.
New subscriber just from watching this video! Loved how you take your time to explain everything. I'm very oily and been searching for the best products to use. Love you already! 😊❤️
New to your channel. First off I have to say I love love love your makeup storage unit behind you. So need to find one like that. Secondly it seems like we share a lot of the same issues with sensitive oily skin. It's such a struggle to keep my makeup looking good through the day. Thanks for all the great tips / reviews.
Been searching for such an in depth video on this subject for so long!!!!! Definitely trying the Becca one! I use the Benefit PoreFessional Gel and it's amazing but just not enough!!
New Subbie here!!! Finally a primer video for oily skinned WOC....thank you! I am grateful to you for this video. I will be playing catching up since I'm new here...Lol..
thank you for the tips! but I think you put up the wrong link on the makeup forever mattifying primer :/ when I pressed it, i came to makeup forever smoothing primer :/
You will absolutely love it, but it definitely does not really do that well with blurring pores. I would recommend using a pore minimizing primer first and then going in with the Becca primer on top.
NO! i got the makeup forever step 1 primer AND IT'S ACTUALLY GREAT! My skin stays matte for up to 6 hours which is amazing!! I think you should give it a try.
Your video quality is goals lol. Can you include what you use in the description box im looking to upgrade my equipment this summer and im still looking around on what i should get.
so I have VERY oily skin and I loved how when I put on the makeup forever mattifying primer it made my face matte instantly. BUT when I went to apply my foundation, my foundation was sticking to the primer and it came out all patchy:/ is there a way I can prevent this from happening?
Hey love! The MUFE primer is heavy duty girl! So I would recommend only applying it to the areas that you are the most oily. Also, when I apply it to my skin, I don't rub it all the way it. Leave it a little bit tacky and then apply your foundation in sections so that you can make sure that you have time to blend it out before it sets. I hope that helps!
Hi, I also love the no7 matte primer which has been my holy grail primer for a while, however it has been discontinued here in the UK so now I need to find another one to mattify my very oily skin. How have you found using the becca primer with the loreal infallible matte foundation? I read that the becca primer is water based and you shouldn't mix water based primers with silicone based foundations because they don't work well together? Thanks.
Hey love! Thanks so much for watching! The Loreal Pro Matte Foundation is EVERYTHING!! However, I wouldn't recommend using the Becca primer with it since the Becca primer is going to make you super matte. I've found that the Loreal foundation clings to the primer and makes it look patchy when used together. If you are going to use it together, I would suggest blending out with a damp beauty blender to help melt the two products into each other. The No7 primer is also one of my favs. I hate to hear it was discontinued where you are :(
Great video. Thanks so much. I'm so oily but looking for my fav drugstore foundation have several samples to try. Playing around with primers. Want to try the Loreal one u where talking about in select places for sure. Thanks so much.
how do you apply the becca primer? I've tried patting it and rubbing it onto my skin (after warming it up) but I still seem to get residue. like flaky residue of the primer. 😭 HELP ME! someone!
I apply the Becca primer mostly to my cheeks, and little on my forehead, nose and chin. I start by warming it up between my fingers, then apply on my cheeks first. I usually start by rubbing, and once I feel it starting to dry I switch to patting. I do not rub it all the way in until it completely dries because this will cause it to flake. Leave it a little tacky, and then apply your foundation right afterwards. I hope this helps!
Hi I came across your video and loved it. What do you with the No.7 primer. I have that primer and I have big pores. I just recently bought the Maybelline Master primer blur & smooth. Let me know if you use any powder to stay matte. I have a real oily face and have been trying to find the right match to keep me Matte.
yes!!! i was just thinking yesterday what is a really good primer for oily skin!! think am going to check out that becca.i love your channel!thanks for sharing
+shakira Griffin I completely agree!! Becca is life! If you're willing to spend the coins, I would recommend that one hands down over all of the others that I mentioned for controlling oil!!
I just discovered your channel and this video was so helpful. I have oily skin and dry undereye/lids and now that it's summer I need all of the mattifying things!!!
Thank you love! I am so happy that it helped you! I have the EXACT same issue!! Oily skin and dry eye lids... the struggle!! I've found that using an eye cream around my eyes before I start my makeup definitely helps with that!
I have the becca primer and I sometimes have difficulties getting the right finish after I apply foundation on top. Do you apply any other primers after the becca?
Nisey G I typically apply my smoothing primer first, and then my oil control primer last before foundation. I find I tend to get the best results that way.
I always apply my pore filling/smoothing primer first and then my mattifying primer. You want the mattifying primer to be the last thing you apply before your foundation :)
thank you for including some drugstore products! trying to cut back on my sephora addiction (i.e. save $$), so i need a replacement for smashbox's blemish control photo finish primer
You are more than welcome love! I am glad that you found it helpful! I am all about saving money, and if I can find an affordable product that gets the job done.. I am so here for it! xoxo
The Hangover X primer..? If so, I have been on the fence about trying that one for the longest, but one of my friends told me its probably not the best for oily skin because it leaves your skin really dewy. Have you tried it?
thanks for the video I'm gonna try your tips I have the make up forever modifying primer but every time I use it my foundation looks patchy on those areas that I applied it I don't know why maybe I'm not applying i wrongI guess the foundation clings onto those spots I don't know why
Lissette Vega hey love! Yeah.. it will do that of you apply too much. Try applying a little less and really press it into your skin. I also try to make sure that it's evenly distributed across whatever area of my face that I'm applying it. If you still have some patchy spots, I normally blend those areas with a damp beauty blender to help blend everything together. I hope that helps!
