I rewatched The Boogens yesterday and I think it's a really good film. Great snowy atmosphere, good characters. I'm very happy to have it in 4k. Fun fact: the actor who plays the old man is the same actor who plays the father in the Father's Day segment of Creepshow.

Actually Deep Star Six had many recognized TV actors from it's day in it, the main reason it doesn't get much respect is the movie Leviathan came out around the same time and had pretty much the same premise with more familiar actors.

Great video! I’d like to add that The Nest is based on the novel of the same name by Gregory A. Douglas-one of the iconic (and really stomach-churning) horror novels of my youth. It was reissued a few years back by Valancourt Books in their Paperbacks from Hell series. Well worth reading!

I worked at a video store from 1987-89 in my first two years of college. Perfect job for me as a film fan; I'd do it again in an instant. I remember the VHS box of "The Brain" but never took it home. I really want to see "Razorback" as I've heard a lot about it, all positive. "Alligator" is tons of fun and the 4K looks beautiful, very much like a 35 mm print in excellent condition. And pets being eaten in the sewers...and Jack Carter being carried away pool-side. Oh, man...I remember the VHS box of "The Kindred" in the video store as well, Anthony...never took it home, though.

You can't have "Deepstar Six" on this list without "Leviathan." And speaking of "Deepstar Six," the most popular actor of that group I would say is the lead, Greg Evigan. Evigan had a successful television career during the time he worked on "Deepstar Six." Daniel's really young (meaning no disrespect), so I get that he wouldn't know about Greg Evigan. But, I guess an argument could be made about Miguel Ferrer being the most recognizable actor, having just come off the wildly popular "Robocop."
@susanmacdonald4288

I really liked Leviathan...it's got a lot of good actors in it. I watched it because of Lisa Eilbacher, and ended up really enjoying it. It'a pretty underated, I think. I'm going to have to check out Deepstar Six.
@coreyc5982
@coreyc5982 2 месяца назад
@susanmacdonald4288 You're preaching to the choir as they say. I love "Leviathan" and I actually prefer it to "Deepstar Six", but "Deepstar Six" is still a really fun and immensely enjoyable film to watch. I'm not sure if you're aware or not, but "Deepstar Six" and "Leviathan" were part of the 1989 Aquatic Thriller Trinity that also included "The Abyss." Of course, "Leviathan" and "Deepstar Six" were firmly planted in the realm of horror with science-fiction elements, while "The Abyss" was pure science fiction. Because the former two had preceded "The Abyss" at the box office, James Cameron put out that really knarly trailer that described what "The Abyss" was about and that it was filmed in an uncompleted nuclear power plant. Cameron put out the trailer as a way to separate his movie from the other two and to let the audience know that "The Abyss" was not a horror movie like "Deepstar Six" and "Leviathan" But, honestly, I love all three films, and I'm so happy "The Abyss" finally came out on 4K Disc because now I have all three on physical media. As far as Lisa Eilbacher goes, she'll always be Ensign Segar (a.k.a. Sugar Britches) from "An Officer And A Gentlemen" to me. 😄 But seriously, she's a very good actress who's been acting since she was a girl if I'm not mistaken. I'm pretty sure I remember her on an episode of the "Shazam" live-action series that aired on Saturday mornings back in the day (shows how old I am 😆). I don't remember what Lisa did in the 90's. It seems like "Leviathan" capped off Lisa's career in the 80's and is also the final film in the Lisa Eilbacher Trilogy which also consisted of the aforementioned "An Officer And A Gentlemen" and of course "Beverly Hills Cop." Of course, she did other things throughout the 80's and beyond, but those three films were likely her most well-known. I think you'll really enjoy "Deepstar Six" which alongside Greg Evigan also stars Nancy Everhard (Dolph Lundgren's Punisher) who is sort of Lisa Eilbacherish in her appearance. You probably won't like it as much as "Leviathan" but it's a really fun movie to watch. I almost forgot, both movies, "Deepstar Six" and "Leviathan" have cast members from "Robocop." Miguel Ferrer who's in "Deepstar Six" and then there's Robocop himself, Peter Weller who is the star of "Leviathan."

It was also the first time that I have seen actor, Henry Silva (The Hunter in this movie). The “Limo” scene was the highlight for me. Even though I only saw this movie once on Cable TV, I can definitely vouch for “Razorback.” That movie had me on the edge of my seat as much as the “Jaws” franchise. Finally, “Kindred” had me more grossed out than scared, but a Good Low Budget Horror film, nevertheless.

The only character that I cared about in The Boogens was the dog, and he got it. Back when The Boogens was in theaters, a stand up comic did a joke about being embarrassed to mention The Boogens by name, saying he paid off a kid to buy the ticket. On to Razorback, the star, Gregory Harrison, was originally cast as Jody in the original Phantasm. He was hired by CBS to co-star on MASH spinoff Trapper John M.D. Harrison became popular at that time.

My favorite underrated creature film of the 80s isn't on this list. I love cheesy creature movies, and this is so bad it's not only good, it's funny. It's Humanoids from the Deep. It stars Doug McClure, and was released in 1980. Again, it's set in a small town, people start dying and pretty teenage girls start disappearing. If you like cheesy creature features, you need to check this one out.

Great list. The Boogens and Xtro are a lot of fun. Alligator is awesome! I consider it the best animal attack movie. Another lesser known favorite of mine is Blue Monkey.

Only one I hadn't seen or at least heard of was The Kindred. Looks like something worth watching.

The Brain looks like one of the props from Fiend Without a Face.

I remember seeing Slugs when I was younger, don't remember very much of it but I know it freaked me out, definitely going to have to watch it again. Alligator is a gret movie, I absolutely love it!! Anyways great list, can't wait to check out some of the other ones I haven't seen yet.
