Found memories of the Lynx back in the day, owned both models. Rampage, Roadblasters, Toki, Rampart, Blue Lightning, Dracula, Rygar.. etc. My only gripe? Too many devs went for the zoomed in look, big sprites, restricted play area and not enough animation frames given to the sprites.
Even though it's been a long time (well less than 10 years actually) since I sold my LYNX, I still hold fond memories of games that are not mentioned here. Maybe my favourite game was Shadow Of The Beast. In the end every day I played it I would go thru the whole game until the nice endscreen.
I’m surprised an EXTREMELY good game like KLAX didn’t even make the honourable mentions and yet there are so many bad games that are on the list such as Ninja Gaiden Dirty Larry and Xybots are? And Chip’s Challenge is ok I guess but it should have lower on the list if on the list at all but I do agree with Roadblasters, The Gates Of Zendocon, Stun Runner and Todd’s Adventure In Slime World those are pretty good games and even though it was only an honourable mention but I do like the Atari Lynx version of Rygar that game could have easily taken the place of either Xybots or Dirty Larry or Ninja Gaiden
Wow nostalgia. Had the lynx and was a great portable system. I brought it every where including in the airplane to Hawaii every year to visit my family out there. Countless hours playing that sports 🏀 package game , blue lightning, rampage , rygar, and others. And also had the turbo grafix 16 lol. Good times
Regarding Lynx Double Dragon Knight Technologies Tom Schenck told me: "The Double Dragon game was the third product I worked on for Knight Technologies (the developer of the product, published by Telegames). It was the first where we had put together a complete Lynx game engine to work with for products, and I only worked on the game directly in the beginning months - it was finished by another programmer Alex, along with a few other products. I went on to start with some of the other titles you mention below. It was based on the arcade and Genesis versions of the game, and developed without access to the original source code (but we did have the Genesis sprite source art). We wanted to showcase the Lynx graphics and used pretty big sprites - perhaps a little bigger than needed, but it worked pretty well. It was certainly better written and put together than my first project. I think it only really suffered from some controller/input issues based on how the input was read in - with what I know now (about two decades more experience), I would have run an input system at a very high rate to make sure to capture button presses properly for attack/defend, but that meant you had to be a little lazy on your button pressing. I would say that it was a reasonably good port from a couple of somewhat junior developers on a quirky platform."
Didn't know what the Lynx was capable of back then, especially when it comes to 3D, impressive ! Besides: I loved Roadblasters on the Arcade in the 80s, played it a lot with 20 luxembourgish francs per game on our fun fairs
What about war birds!! And California games! War birds was way ahead of its time with those polygon graphics.. Lynx was my favorite along side the turbografx Toki is badass too its more closer to the arcade than the genesis one for sure
Nice list man! We have a few Lynx games but still need to grab the system ourselves. Always good to know what titles to keep an eye out for until then!
I was hoping that I would see #1 on the list, great game. Do you have an opinion on Dracula the Undead? It was the last Lynx game I've bought and the only CIB Lynx I have. Only barely played it yet.
