I know "American Life" from Primus? How about Jerry was a Racecar Driver? Or Tommy the Cat? Both way better more memorable bass parts. Rush and Primus should have been number 1 and 2 as we all know. Either order would have been fine.
Let me save you 13 minutes of your life: #10 - "Wrathchild" - Iron Maiden #9 - "American life" - Primus #8 - "Orion" - Metallica #7 - "My generation" - The Who #6 - "Give it away" - Red Hot Chili Peppers #5 - "Dazed and confused" - Led Zeppelin #4 - "YYZ" - Rush #3 - "Come together" - The Beatles #2 - "Money" - Pink Floyd Honorable mentions: - "Low rider" - War - "Hysteria" - Muse - "Feel good, Inc." - Gorillaz - "Schism" - Tool - "Panic attack" - Dream Theater - "Roundabout" - Yes #1 - Another one bites the dust - Queen
Janine De I think schism should have been an honorable mention, it's a guitar line played on bass. Don't get me wrong I love tool but Justin chancellor just isn't a traditional bass player
Deserves more than honorable mention. Not entirely sure YYZ would have been my pick for Rush, either, but there are so many to choose from. The bass playing in Red Barchetta is from another world...
Just giving credit where it is due. The video is about bass lines, not bass players, and Deacon clearly appropriated his bass line in "Another One Bites the Dust" from Edwards.
ArthurPewtey but that's a different story If another bites the dust is not how Freddie Mercury made it to be then john Deacon would still be rich from his success in queen
:), I remember showing the bass score to roundabout to a sight reading Bassist I knew in the early 80's, he was an awesome musician, black dude, Never listened to Yes...He played along for a few seconds and said; "Fuck that shit"! But he became a Yes head when I turned him on to stuff like Sound Chaser or Close to the Edge...
Josh Berg no kidding. Bunch of retards out here at watchmojo. Maybe if they understood advanced time signature swaps and irregular playing that adds a confusing sound that actually works.
@@iliketrains3495 You don't even know what a boomer is by making this statement. Baby Boomers are in their 60s and 70s now. If you think they are all about the internet and new technology you don't know many.
As a veteran drummer it always pisses me off when people and the internet badmouth bass players. Like they are useless or talent-less. The fact is without bass the song would sound extremely thin. You never really notice the huge contribution the bass makes to a piece of music until it is removed.
+austindorf83 Agreed. And that's exactly one of the problems with the internet. People talk shit about things they have absolutely no experience with. Then a sheep follows it....then more sheep and more sheep. Before you know it a wide spread ideal has become universal and it's totally false. Of course this happens usually with teens who have almost zero life experience and are just trying to act like they know everything to impress people.
+Elzorrogris74 Yup. And lets me honest here....guitar can make you feel many emotions, but bass and drums is what gets peoples ass shakin and toes tapping. "Brick House" by The Commodores....nuff said. lol.
Led Zeppelin have the most incredible bass lines: Dazed and confused, The lemon song, How many more times, Ramble on, Whole lotta love... John Paul Jones the best bassist of all time
@@jacobsutton8798 in a list with pink floyd and led zeppelin name on it ? if it was that would be mind-blowing pal :) but ps that list was no good i believe ...
Yeah, seems like a number of the "honorable mentions" deserved to be on the list. There were definitely some weak choices that made the actual list. This is after all a list of basslines, not greatest rock bassists....that has it's own list...
+Mylo X. I have learntit faster than in a week. YYZ and My Generation are much better and harder. I think you won't disagree that Geddy is playing much better than that guy in muse
Yeah. The Around the World bass line is what piqued my Chili Peppers interest. But Give it Away? I mean it's good bu it's just muted notes and slides. it's not easy but Flea has bass lines many times more impressive
@@capilah6285 I never suggested you not enjoy Deacon's playing..simply that you don't be absurd. McCartney is clearly the more influential bass player.
Some of my favorite bass lines Another One Bites The Dust-Queen Can't Stop-RHCP The Invisible Man-Queen Breakthru-Queen Taxman-The Beatles Come Together-The Beatles Move Away-The Killers Higher Ground-RHCP Schism-Tool Jenny Was a Friend of Mine-The Killers Ramble On-Led Zeppelin Gallows Pole-Led Zeppelin Hey Bulldog-The Beatles Something-The Beatles For Whom the Bell Tolls-Metallica
Well the metal side has become less prominent in recent albums post-reunion. They generally get referred to as prog-funk now and Les Claypool hated the term "funk metal" anyway. Also Winamp gives them their own ID3 tag.
LiveAtPompeii74 your good😂 I love em both a lot and I’m well aware that JPJ is better than Deacon but I don’t know if Zeppelin is better than Queen. I listen to Zeppelin was more than Queen now but I still believe Queen is very slightly better.
+Steven Pape Guess it's just because it's a solo, doesn't have to do the normal things a bassist does like support the song. Since Geezer was originally a guitarist it was probably easy as hell to him. To actually answer your question most people probably don't do it because it doesn't fit into any song easily, even NIB. Sounds more like a short song completely separate to NIB
+mrhoffame Here, here. One of the best song intros ever. A lot of basslines I can tell how they could've made it up, but Peace Sells just comes out of nowhere man (maybe because it was played by Mustaine [who isn't a bass player] perhaps?). No build up or anything. It just comes straight out of the gate to kick your ass. Definitely belongs on the list.
Réjean Beaudette nah nah nah. I agree it should be below 5 at least but not 1. Tool should've been number 1 in my opinion. But everyone has their own opinion on the subject
To be honest, pretty much any Muse song could've made this list lol. Chris Wolstenholme is a genius. I'm surprised Hysteria only got an honourable mention!!
Another One Bites the Dust!!!! Once you hear that bassline it's stuck in your head for a few days. The bassline was actually inspired by the disco era R&B band 'Chic'. John Deacon used to hang out in Chic's studio during sessions. Chic's co-founder and bassist Bernard Edwards gave Deacon permission to use it on 'Another Bites the Dust'. Another interesting side note is that Michael Jackson, after hearing Queen perform the song during a concert, encouraged Freddie Mercury to release it as a single. It became Queen's biggest selling single ever! LOVE THIS SONG!! Check out the original video on RU-vid. Freddie Mercury is a beast!!
Okay, I know they're much more recent and niche than the rest of these, but Feel Good Inc. definitely deserved a spot. Cause damn, just try to get that outta your head.
+Parallax Tiger Definitely a catchy song but niche? Not a chance haha. A remastered version of the song was just upped to YT jan 2015 and has 17 million views. You want nich bad-ass bass try any 7th wonder song. Perhpas Edge of My Blade.
I was so confused but I think a lot of this list was bad considering Another One Bite the Dust is on here. It's just overrated. Stone Cold Bush has a better baseline than Give it Away. Dani California was also better. I just think their opinions are way off of mine.
#10 wrathchild - iron maiden (1981) #9 american life - primus (1991) #8 orion - metallica (1986) #7 my generation - the who (1965) #6 give it away - the red hot chili peppers (1991) #5 dazed and confused - led zeppelin (1969) #4 YYZ - rush (1981) #3 come together - the beatles (1969) #2 money - pink floyd (1973) #1 another one bites the dust - queen (1980) HONORABLE MENTIONS * low rider - war (1975) * hysteria - muse (2003) * feel good, inc. - gorillaz (2005) * schism - tool (2001) * panic attack - dream theater (2005) * roundabout - yes (1972) OTHER SONGS MENTIONED * longview - green day * sweet emotion - aerosmith * billie jean - michael jackson * under pressure - queen * heaven and hell - black sabbath * black and blue - polygram (1980) * schism - tool
+Rhodes1966 That is exactly how this works-people like lists, top 10, top 100, or whatever, so they came up with a format to get views, and therefore make some ad money-top 10 this, that and the other thing-doesn't really matter what. All the lists are is just another opinion, no better than any other, and since it isn't mine, a totally irrelevant one. Obviously any list of great bass lines, solos, bassist bandleaders, etc, ought to include Jaco-otherwise its laughable crap. I have spoken-agreement is mandatory for all humans.
+KAMbam yeah. Steve Harris is the greatest bassist of all time. but I think tail gunner or phantom of the opera should have been up there. Harris basically plays lead guitar in phantom. UP THE IRONS
Exactly. I just skipped every 30 seconds or so, as not everyone has taste, and I didn't trust this guys. I was right; as The Chain should be at number one-but it wasn't even mentioned.
My list 10. From who the bell tolls 9. N.I.B 8. Jerry was a race car driver 7. Can't stop 6. Come together 5. Money 4. Come together 3. Roundabout 2. YYZ 1. Another one bites the dust
I was thinking it would be Deacon but I thought it was going to be Under Pressure but AOBTD has John playing lead so I am guessing that is why that was the chosen song.
and just a fucking honorable mention... How the fucking fuck can Another One Bites The Dust on top? I mean it's classy and catchy but nothing can beat the skilled bass riff of Hysteria...
