Not just a single Oscar nomination for Taron Egerton's performance. The costumes within that movie are outstandingly glorious and it should be nominated for Best Costume Design.
@@sarahvenable4710 Right from the moment it made a debut premiere at the Cannes film festival. Much of that film festival is usually a catalyst for Oscar buzz. Look no further than Quentin Tarantino's upcoming 9th film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
@S A there's no reason to cover it. It's just a mole. I have one in the exact same spot lol. It didn't affect his performance so why waste makeup on it?
@@arianawainwright6114 Elton John isn't really that popular he had very little charting hits.... and he's practically banned and some countries because he's gay. Sadly.
Kristine I agree!!! It gives me all the FEELS. I love this trend. It is REALLY interesting how music coincides with all our life moments. I can tell you what song was playing in each of them.
justanothergirl withacrazymind sadly due to how strict the royals are that would never pass!! I wished they touched on his 2nd suicide attempt after his divorce from his wife, with the introduction of someone saved my life
Taron was such a perfect choice. Such an underrated actor. His only mistep was Robin Hood. Great movie, and better than Bohemian Rhapsody imo. Definitely worthy of Oscars for Both Taron and Bryce Dallas Howard. And Taron Sings the songs himself and Elton gave him permission to re record all his songs.
Don't push your luck. The Oscar competition within the next awards season can be quite tough. Probably, the costumes and Taron Egerton's performance are some of the possible nominations to slipped through.
@lar ljd After all, that latest reboot of Robin Hood was a mess. Besides, there's already a lot of iterations of Robin Hood within the entire cinema, particularly, Ridley Scott's Robin Hood and etc.
@@lucyblah4828 I would like to team up with Mathew Vaughn and Marv Films to turn "Lord Of The Dance" into a major motion picture for the Big Screen as a Biopic set to Michael Flatley's life and the 1997 stage phenomenon with Aiden Turner leading the cast as Michael Flatley.
Omfg I love this movie so much. The cast is absolutely AMAZING! Tarons voice is BEAUTIFUL and He NAILED all of the songs. The film better get an Oscar nomination because it deserves one!
Yes, hetero people should play gay characters but the point is also there that gay actors should be more frequently cast in roles that aren't just gay characters. I think thats what people were miffed about. thankgoodness no one else was cast as elton. If you've seen Fleabag which I highly recommend Andrew Scott couldn't be more perfect for that role or Ben Whishaw in the hour as Freddie Lyon, both gay men playing characters who aren't. boh rap was made by a man accused of numerous sexual assaults and it presents gay people as villainous or sickly there were years when Freddie was healthy and with his love Jim Hutton yet they only show him briefly towards the end when mercury is dying, while his relationship with a woman is presented as his main epic love. The whole film is homophobic. Fletcher was only there to take over after it was already done and there's evidence the original director was still there in post-production. Freddie deserves a film like Rocketman. Taron better get a freaking oscar if they gave one to Rami who has acted better in his other work.
@@katrinamatulich3064 gay actors play straight roles all the time. It shouldn't be about who's the right sexuality for a role, it should be about the right actor for it
@@kristent225I wouldn't say they play them all the time. They may do but the truth is many actors are still in the closet for fear they will be typecast. I can think of no more than six actors off the top of my head who are gay and have played characters of various sexuality but that is not a lot which does suggest a serious bias in casting.
@@katrinamatulich3064 then you must not know about a lot of gay actors/actresses because the majority of them play someone straight. Just a list of the most famous gay actors/actresses I know that have played straight characters for most of their careers: Wentworth Miller, Matt Bomer, Neil Patrick Harris, Ezra Miller, Luke Evans, Zachary Quinto, Kevin Spacey and the women: Ellen Page, Jodie Foster, Cara Delevigne, Lily Tomlin, Sarah Paulson, Patricia Velasquez, Portia di Rossi, the lists go on and on and that's fine. It should be about the right actor for the role, not their sexual orientation.
I don't care who he sleeps with in his private life, in his professional life he completely nailed this role. No one could possibly watch this movie and complain about Taron's casting. Brilliant start to finish.
This was one of the best pictures I've seen this year. Elton and I have crossed paths briefly over the last 45 years and I thought the recreation of the 60s, 70s and 80s was spot on.
I don’t know why people are worked up about a concert that didn’t happen. It’s not like they changed a fact that wasn’t needed to be changed. It just showed Elton as a performer.
As an old guy, I loved Elton John and his music. I love singing along. Watching this awesome movie put a bit of a spin on the tunes that I didn’t realize at the time. Great movie. I’ve watched it 3 or 4 times and am in the middle of watching it again on my laptop.
Not saying he has peaked already, but he has already been in several prominent roles, so I don't know if I would put it as "one to watch" but more like he's got offers coming from all over for him. He as also King of the North, Robb Stark, in Game of Thrones.
@@bandotaku no I understand what you mean. I actually wasnt aware fully of his list of roles and looking into it he has done a lot more than I first realised. I was reading an article about how he is based in LA more and hoping it will open more opportunities for him.
I saw Rocketman last night! It was my first time learning about Elton john and I can't believe he went through so much in his early career. I was in tears at some moments in the film but all in all I loved the movie and will definitely check out his music! 😭👌
Just seen it and it is a really great movie. I always had a lot of respect for EJ without being a particularly strong fan and that continues to be true but the movie really did touch me in an emotional way as well as being thoroughly entertaining.
I grew up in a very musical family. My mum plays the guitar, my dad is a DJ and I also play the guitar. My family and I are all very passionate about music, especially 80s and older. Yes, I’m only 13 but ever since I was a very young child I have loved 70s and 80s music and it’s amazing that a lot of kids my age are getting into this type of music because of these films coming out after all being into pop and today’s music only. I really hope that they continue making more of these amazing and very educational films on the lives of musical legends!
How do they plan on doing a Bowie biopic without his music? That's like doing a Jim Henson biopic without muppets, or a Stan Lee biopic without superheroes.
Holmsy That is crazy people make such a HUGE ordeal out of it. Eric Stonestreet is another example of a straight guy playing a gay guy. Rami Malak as Freddie. And now Taron playing Sir Elton.
There is a lot about Taron's connection to Elton, but not about other key figures. The write Lee Hall and Jamie Bell have also longstanding ties to Elton, due to Billy Elliot. Lee Hall wrote Rocketman's script and the Billy Elliot script, while Elton wrote the music for the stage version of Billy Elliot. Jamie Bell also of course was Billy, a character Elton hugely identified with.
Let me first say - Taron Edgerton was absolutely excellent as Elton John. Perfect choice. He should deffo get an oscar nod. However I wasn't too keen on realising it was a musical as I had expected it to be like Bohemian Rhapsody and be a biopic. Hence when all the songs were sung out of chronological context I began to get confused and it really took away from the great acting. Still worth seeing if you're an Elton fan.
I don't understand the backlash about Taron playing Elton John, a gay man. Haven't straight guys played gay guys before? And the other way around?? Does it even matter what your sexuality is???
@@Sassyglbeauty ooo wow...now that's something. BR was great. I really cant wait. Think its tomorrow I'm going see it. I was supposed to go Monday but I was sick...bleuaghhh..couldn't eat a thing. Least now I'll be able to indulge in some snacks whilst watching now I'm feeling better.
Kerry Ann as long you go in knowing that it’s different than a normal bio pic, and that it’s more artistic / fantasy... I really think you’ll enjoy it. I didn’t think I was gonna like it because someone was complaining about it being a musical... but, it were those moments that I really enjoyed the most. I really can’t wait to watch it again.
Talking about Bohemian Rhapsody, was there any actor that could have sung just like Freddie Mercury or come close I don't think so, Rami was great it was the best decision to put Freddie's voice in the film, Rocketman was also brilliant I hope it gets some Oscar nods for Best Actor, Best Picture and Best Director
And don't forget, Best Costume Design. Seriously, the costumes displayed in Rocketman are really Oscar worthy. Just the hint, the costume designer of Rocketman, Julian Day, is also the same costume designer behind the costumes in Bohemian Rhapsody.
For the record, using a song that wasn't written to help with the story isn't "artistic license" making up a bands breakup and someone's AIDS diagnosis is artistic license
Could you elaborate on what you mean? I thought the artistic licence they were talking about was not so much that they used a song that wasn't written yet, but that it was not from any of the set he would have played on that first live concert.
You don't know what artistic license is. You don't know what artists are. You don't know what licenses are. You don't know what anything is. You are developmentally challenged and your handlers shouldn't let you on the internet any longer.
It was criminal that Taron didn't receive at least an Oscar nomination as Elton John. Especially when you consider that he received nominations from BAFTA and SAG and won a Golden Globe, as well as a Satellite. He nails Elton's phrasing on the songs, sings them beautifully and perfectly, and also Elton's performance facial expressions, his walk and his run, and all along he's convincingly dramatic and authentically comedic
Well to be fair, back in the days (Rock Hudson, Cary Grant...) no-one knew about their sexual preferences so... But I do agree it is a complete loonacy to say that gay roles should only be portrayed by gay actors (it's acting not pretending for heaven's sake). P.S.: remember "Philadelphia" with Tom Hanks or "Transamerica" with Felicity Huffman (amazing performances imo)!
I think Rocket Man would have been more enjoyable as a true bio pic than a musical. Thats what made Bohemian Rhapsody so good: It was a biopic with and about music, not a musical.
jajceboy because it just isn’t the same stories! It’s not because they are both LGBT stories that we should compare those two movies. It just doesn’t make senses! And also Rocketman is a musical and BR isn’t!
Bohemian Rhapsody was a biopic? Don't make me laugh, that movie was barely accurate. Majority of the stuff that happened in the movie, never happened in real life.
I hate that people were so butt hurt because a straight actor played Elton- Elton has said many times that he loves tarons performance- We do not argue with Elton😂
Love Taron in the role. But if you wonder what Justin Timberlake would be like in the role, look up the video of Elton's song This Train Don't Stop Here Anymore.
As a member of the LGBTQ+ community I was totally fine with Taron playing Elton. He was the perfect person to play that role no matter his sexuality. There are so many gay actors who play straight roles and vice versa. Why aren’t they “under fire”. It’s ridiculous.
Prince McQueen I didn’t realize that people are so salty about Rami Malek lip syncing, and it honestly makes no sense to me. Freddie Mercury had a one in a million (billion) voice, why would you want to have an actor who is not a singer try to replicate it?? My dad even said he didn’t deserve his Oscar because of it!! Absolutely ridiculous.
Anyone with an ounce of a brain cell would know they’re friends and he wasn’t shading him. Even then, Rami isn’t anywhere near Freddie levels of singing.
Cmon it is just a movie, Rami Malek did an awesome job and he acutally had singing lessons so that it wouldn't not look obvious that Rami isn't singing himself in the movie!
And Rocketman will make less then half of Bohemian Rhapsody. Maybe less than a third. Perhaps it's because Freddie is beloved and way more talented while Elton is a narcissist who is always feuding with people. I thought it was funny how he kept trashing Madonna, and said she wouldn't win that Golden Glove over him and she did. Karma. LOL.
Not all gay characters have to be played by gay actors look at Modern Family for example the character Cam who is one half of the gay couple in the show is played by Eric Stonestreet who is straight the same can be said about straight characters not all straight characters have to played by straight actors look at Barney from How I Met Your Mother and Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory both of those characters were played by gay actors Neil Patrick Harris and Jim Parsons
I'm gonna have to see this, _and I don't give a damn who's gay and who isn't._ I doubt many viewers have ever heard of the late Jimmy Durante, who summed up the way I've always felt about this subject. There was a scandal of some sort involving gays in Hollywood, "In Olden Days," and someone asked Jimmy how he felt about it. He replied, "I don't know why everybody doesn't leave everybody else the HELL alone!" Yeah, why not?
