I love Billy and Doug Jones, and his improvised insult to Winnie was pure gold. Doug always makes any role he's in instantly better, even when he's completely unrecognisable underneath all of the prosthetics!

Watching it now as an adult I love how they took the adults out. A lot of times we wonder why the kids have to handle it and why didn't they go to an adult. This shows them going to adults at least twice and why that didn't get them help. It was really well done.

The cemetery that Max gets his shoes stolen is called Marblehead Cemetery in Marblehead, Massachusetts about 10 minutes south of Salem. It is the most beautiful cemetery. It over looks the town and has little gazebo you can sit at. I highly recommend checking it out.

I honestly think that Omri was the best pick for Max, as he hit all the right marks especially with the binx talks scene as he had a perfect 'did this cat just talk?! This cat is talking' shocked reaction that clearly showed Max was moments away from having a total freakout.

It's not really behind the scenes secret but something I learned about the movie that I didn't know as a kid was that it was actually released in theaters and was considered a flop in the box office and with critics at the time of its release I am still having a hard time understanding why Disney released a Halloween movie in the middle of July up against Free Willy

Fun Fact: There was an original song titled "Almost Unreal" performed by Roxette to play the end credits for Hocus Pocus, but due to schedule issues, it got placed in The Super Mario Brothers Movie Soundtrack instead. 😑

For #7 He actually did called her the word that rhymes with witch. I remembered watching this movie on TV when I was 15 or 16. I believe It was the television debuted on ABC at the time in October 1996. Most likely they had 2 takes of that scene and it was know back then for networks to so-call let things like that slip through the cracks like in Zanthura when it aired on Cartoon Network where the kid told the robot to "Get me a juice box biyatch". That was a one time deal on that one. Every time it replayed, they censored it with silence.

Fun fact: Hocus Pocus and Free Willy literally came out on the day I was born! July 16th, 1993! :) I didn't grow up with either films though I did see parts of Hocus Pocus when I was a kid yet saw it for the first time in my 20's and I used to watch Free Willy all of the time when I was a little kid but I love sharing that fact with people! XD

I had a different interpretation of the sisters' costumes: 1] Winnie's dress is the most elaborately-decorated, signifying her status as the oldest/leader of their group. 2] Mary's dress looks more like something a servant would wear, which is the main function of her relationship with Winnie. 3] The symbolism in Sarah's dress lies in its main color. That particular shade of pink evokes a teenager's first blush of love, which she seems to ALWAYS be in. (9/29/2022)

Thats EXACTLY what ive always thought! To me Winnie's emerald green dress always showed as high status and regal. The other 2 to me always looked like a surf like as in a servant. And a bar wench type or someone who was in love with beijg in love.

Bonus fun fact: James Horner was originally going to compose the film's score but became unavailable at the last minute, so John Debney stepped in and had to score the entire film in two weeks. Even thought he didn't score the film, James Horner did come back to write "Come Little Children".

Behind the seen secrets...I use to be a part-time park-ranger for a Washington state park on an island off the coast of Washington.That mansion (or 1 of them) was built around the park rangers home so to speak. The cast and crew spent quit a bit of time out there. It's always been one of my favorite Halloween movies!

No way could it have been half as good without "I Put a Spell on You"!! Just saw HP2, and while overall I enjoyed it and the ties back to the original, I wasn't as impressed by it as I thought I'd be. I wish they had written all new original music instead of using known pop songs.

Exactly! They also had “The Nightmare Before Christmas” released that year too so (as I can recall to not have the movies overlap that Halloween) they released it in July of ‘93 and yeah box office failure, but much like “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” both became cult classics in later years!

It was not a bomb. It was not a huge hit but it had a respectable opening weekend and it did better than Bette Midler's previous film "FOR THE BOYS." Part of the reason the film did not do better was because it was not released in October.
