Fitzroy (and most of the inner-north) has become stupidly expensive to eat now. Ironically it's become a lot cheaper to eat out and drink on Chapel St, Prahran & Windsor, than it is up in the traditionally working class Fitzroy, Collingwood, Northcote, Brunswick etc now!
In the US, we go to Costco. It's really cheap and tasty, but don't expect it to be that healthy. But, what can you expect when you can get a large pepperoni pizza (a whole pizza -- not one slice) for US$5.
later followed by a $17 burger - what a fuckin rip off - they saw this sepo comin lol At my local fish n chip shop I can get a burger, chips and can of coke for a flat $10, and the burger was as good as what he was eating. That is in QLD.
It's not cheap for Australia. Don't be delusional. I live in Melbourne and there are plenty of places to get a quality meal for the $10 mark Also fish shop burgers can be great but no way in hell any fish shop burger is as good as one you get from a burger place or pub.
You can, rooftop bar in Melbourne does burgers at that price point and they're honestly the up there with the best burgers I've ever had. That's just one spot too, there are plenty of spots you just gotta have a keen eye.
Every restaurant is that price especially in the city and I thought Melbourne was the most expensive western city in the world untill I went to Auckland
When you're in Melbourne please try a pot and parma, a HSP, a Four and Twenty meat pie at the footy. We are very lucky in Melbourne to be the most multicultural city in the world, you can eat Malaysian for breakfast, American bbq for lunch, Ethiopian for dinner and the best coffee in the world all day.
At the food court in Melbourne Central there's $2.50 garlic focaccias at Pazzi Per La Pizza which are super nice and filling, highly recommend for those on a tight budget !!!
Caity G at Dominos here in Australia, at least here in Adelaide, you can get several pizzas for just $5 each. Or at the Australian Pizza House, you can get some pizzas for just $4.
I really like the variety of great food Melbourne has to offer! You cannot go wrong with variety! I'll keep these places in mind if I make it over to Melbourne someday!
FYI most most pubs and bars in melbourne offer a cheap lunch deal....... At almost EVERY pub you will see a sign for 'parma and pot' and what that is is a snitzel with tomato paste and melted cheese on it and chips on the side also a pot is a large glass of beer. Lunchtime deal can often be around $10 to $15........ Aussies R so obsessed with parmas that some pubs offer different versions like the Hawaiian parma, The Aussie parma, the avocado parma so it always has the tomato paste and cheese but the hawaiian might have ham and pineapple on it too.
There's a website called 'The Happiest Hour' that gives you a list of pubs having meal &/or drink specials based on the day & area you choose. There's an app version, but I've found it to be a bit buggy.
My tip for anyone visiting Melbourne is Saigon Street Eats in St Kilda East. Best pho I've ever tasted in my life, and a huge serve for not too much. Also totally agree on Laksa King.
Missed out on so many actual cheap eats. Dumpling houses in Chinatown can give you a huge plate of dumplings for less than $10. Asian Beer Cafe in Melbourne Central (as of a couple of years ago when I was at uni) did a great $4 pizza lunch deal. Lygon Street has quite a few reasonably priced restaurants where you can get Italian food - my mate and I used to go to Universal all the time for a cheap and tasty lunch. I would never, ever pay $19 for a burger and chips.
Some people have standars. I only eat fast food if there’s a new or limited item thats interesting or worth trying. Kfc makes me want to puke. As does mcd. Hungry jacks might be the only fast food place (apart from subway but i dont really eat there either) where their burgers dont make me gag. They actually (mostly) taste like a real burger. Almost. The slow cooked pork and slaw burger is dare i say, pretty good! Reminds me of the ones mcd in japan offers. $7 for a tiny burger though.... Believe me you’re much better off getting something decent but still cheap. $25 at tim ho wan and that $25 feels like money well spent.
8Bit Burger in Footscray is amazing !! Try Lazy Moe's haha! Lord of the fries is great! there is one at southern cross station! Shnitz is great also! it's inside the D.F.O ( mall )at southern cross station inside with all the shops. Nandos also ... I can't remember if US have nandos.... When You Live in Melbourne and didn't know some of the places existed.
I’m Aussie from Sydney (lived in the US during my teen years) & all the burgers place you went to are quite expensive!!! And it’s not called French fries and chips cause they are thick potato fries🍟
great video chris. for a cheaper alternative to the fitz, and you are chasing a good burger, try 8bit burger. burgers are great, from $10.50. nutella shake is next level craziness. its amazingly good yet so bad for you!
must try Brunch; Top Paddock cafe at Church st, Two Bird One Stone at Claremont st South Yarra. Fish n Chips; Hunky Dory at Chapel st. BBQ Pork & Roast Duck; Pacific restaurant Toorak rd South Yarra, Jinda Thai at Ferguson st Abbotsford. Steik; San Telmo resto (Argentinian cuisine) 14 Meyers Place, Steer restaurant at Claremont st, The Meat & Wine resto in Como Arcade South Yarra. Cafe; Laurent Bakery Toorak rd South Yarra.
If you're in Melbourne, come out West to Footscray. There's lots of migrant restaurants including food from Vietnam (lots of places), India and West Africa. My favourite place to eat is Cafe Lalibela on 91 Irving Street in Footscray (a few blocks from the station). It's very cheap and tasty Ethiopian food. The beer is very affordable too.
Australia, and Melbourne especially has been a huge hub for immigration from Europe post-war, from Vietnam in the 60s and later from South Sudan! Melbourne has the largest Greek population in the world outside of Athens! Melbourne was also the first place in the country to introduce Italian-style coffee! We have even had a huge Chinese population since the 1850s, during the Victorian gold rush. So much of Australian cuisine is authentic or fusion cuisine - I highly recommend getting over here for our fantastic food scene.
Lygon St for Italian! Easy to access from the city & close to Melbourne University. The atmosphere and food is amazing, date night perfection (accordions & cellos on the sidewalk!!) ! I would recommend 'la spaghettata' for dinner & watching a movie at Cinema Nova. Remember to get a scoop of Gelato at the end of the night.
HSPs are the best. I ate so much of them my last trip to Melbourne that I probably had the sauces coming out of my pores at the end of the trip. Without a doubt, CBD Kebabs are the best in all of Melbourne.
Mamak has one of the best lamb curries in the CBD, so great choice. And although Trailer park Burgers are fantastic, they're not exactly cheap. Some recommendations : CJs Lunchbar, cheap Korean on Hardware St where you can get. Bulgogi don for $7.90. Om Vegetarian, no meat but super cheap authentic Indian at $7.50 all you can eat. Little Ramen Bar has some good cheap dishes for around $7.
In regards to Vietnamese dishes. You can catch at 30min train to Springvale. A Vietnamese restaurant called Hoa Tran. It is packed ALL THE TIME and it does look a bit dodgy. But every course food is FRESH and delicious.
I live in Melbourne and there’s so many other cheaper places, $19 AUD isn’t really that cheap if you think about it compared to the US dollar, economy is pretty shit atm
whoa, as an American, I had no idea there was such a wide variety of foods available there! Seems similar to London in that regard. Great video, I will be adding Melbourne to my travel list!
Gotta have beetroot on burgers - so Aussie 😀 You've found some great options for the cheap eats! I love Pepper Lunch, and you can't go past a piping hot bowl of laksa! I like how you mentioned tomato sauce and chips - you get bonus points from us for that!
Melbourne (pronounced "Mel-bin", BTW) has a big Greek population so you should try a (chicken) yeeros. As for hamburgers, there are lots of good local/suburban family-owned take-away shops where you'll get a burger and chips for under ten bucks.
+DAM Motorsports News & race reviews Very cool! Glad you enjoyed the Singapore vids! I've got some more Melbourne videos from your home town coming up in the next few weeks!
my refer for; Coffee, Cappuccino, Cake, Pannacotta, italia cucina; Pizza, Pasta all in one place; Brunetti Cafe at Flinder lane is the best bro :-) Dolce de Leche
In all fairness, that comes out to be a little more than US$13. My credit card company was sending me texts with how much I spent while I was in Melbourne recently. It was a pleasure every time to see that I got charged $14 for a $20 purchase.
I hope you got to try out the Central Markets in Adelaide. I like the Queen Victoria Markets, but the first time I went there I was a little shocked - I was expecting something more Central Markets than the Adelaide Central Markets. Still reckon the Central Markets here in Adelaide are the best markets in the country - and now we finally have Something Wild in the markets selling Aboriginal Australian food (of course, you have to take that home to cook yourself, or you could cook it in the parklands at one of the BBQ locations).
French fries are chips, but not all chips are french fries. What you're generally looking at in this video are thick cut chips or just chips. What McDonalds serve are french fries also known as Shoe string fries
Sausage roll roll ! Now what you do is get an sausage roll and a bread roll of you're choosing , I like wholemeal , tear the bread roll down the centre put the sausage roll in add tomato sauce , eat . Cheapest meal ever !
Ps just a spoonful of oil per rotti should do do not deep fry I made that mistake a few times at first it was good but super greasy now I know how to cook it I buy mine at the freezer section in robinsons mall gensan in the Philippines it's dam good hehe love your channel it's super.
Bruh tomato sauce and katchup are different. Plus come to st albans 3 piece fried chicken and chips for $6.90 and its some of the best fried chicken ive ever had
Thanks 4 replying you my friend made my day if your ever in the Philippines give me a buzz I got a couple houses out here you guys are welcome anytime. Take care mr. Yellow, James Alfred Strong the 3rd I live in Maitum in Mabay. It's in Mindanao. Huge fannn!.
You would have been better off going to Mr Burger for a cheaper and better burger down Brunswick St. TBH Royal Stacks and 8bit are better burger options and most of their burgers are less AU$19.
If you're American you have to consider the exchange rate. $1 AUD is about 0.73 USD. And Melbourne is the second most expensive city in Australia, right behind Sydney. Beer is quite expensive. $7 for a pint is considered pretty cheap. Usually they're about $10-12 depending on the beer. The $19 burger and fries is kind of standard at a dedicated gourmet burger restaurant, more high end vs the fast food style ones. Much better ingredients. Melbourne has a very strong burger culture and they're usually quite large.
Satay (Sate) is originally from Indonesia, not Malaysia. And the "Mee Goreng" that you mentioned which is also in that Malaysian restaurant, it's actually called "Bakmie" which is originally from China. Wth Malaysians like to steal other countries' dishes to claimed to be theirs - -" Btw, I'll go to Melbourne too in 2 weeks. Am so excited 🥰
Hello Chris my son just went in Australia last summer august,He went in Sydney and homestayed there for 2 weeks is Melbourne and Sydney far? Will also visit Australia someday, can u pls. visit Maldives
+cherry sato Hi Cherry.. very cool. Melbourne is about 9 hours driving from Sydney.. or a 90 minute flight. The cities in Australia are all pretty far apart from each other. I'd love to go to the Maldives.. just haven't made it there yet!
