Doesn't Mystic remember that Togetic gets Extrasensory as Togepi in Hgss? He could use one with the Moves: Yawn, Sweet Kiss, Extrasensory and Flamethrower/ Fire blast. That's what I got on mine.
The move pool does suck in earlier gen's but one possibility could be the limitations of the technology that was used in the game cartridges. Some of the animations for later gen attacks probably would have fried the "brain" of the gameboy. Maybe when it came around to gen 4, someone went back and beefed up the bug types because nobody thought they'd be any good.
I think I've used Togetic for either Gold or Crystal once back in my childhood. Below is a list of Pokémon from the Johto Dex that either I've never used or rarely used for an in-game team, but would consider in the future. Kingdra, Hitmontop, Girafarig, Xatu, Miltank, Blissey, Meganium, Scizor, Steelix, Granbull, Ledian, Espeon, Umbreon, Slowking, Politoed, Mantine, Qwilfish, Octillery, Corsola, Azumarill, Lanturn, and Donphan
Ariados beat koga for me in gold and it being able to use psychic helps with Morty and team rocket. Its my favorite pokemon and I always try to use it when its available. It becomes even better in later gens when you can use against fairy types
You're not the only one who prefers pokemon that evolves As a kid i despised pokemon that wouldn't evolve because for me it's the basics of pokemon: evolution. And that's why still today i don't care about legendaries.
One hug Togetic *hugs* You get better in Gen 4 bud. Jumpluff I thank you Mystic. It showed me how much heart it has (yes Colosseum I count up to HGSS.) just don't sleep on its speed and status moves. Underdog Pokémon for sure that you can count on.
Huh odd, TWO Pokemon that I use on my HeartGold Johto team are on this list… which would be the Togekiss line[[My Togekiss is named Icarus]] and Mantine[[Poseidon is mine’s name]] … 😂 Makes me wanna maybe pick up HeartGold again and fully beat it eventually. Already in Kanto anyways. My full team for HeartGold is: Umbreon[[Eclipse]], Crobat[[Nosferatu]], Shiny Wigglytuff[[Esmeralda, she was caught in the Safari Zone.]], Mantine[[Poseidon]], Togekiss[[Icarus]], and Ampharos[[Mjolnir, damn character limits 😂.. should be Mjölnir but character limits as far as I know…]].
I ALWAYS use a Ground type on every team as it is my favorite type. My 1st playth of Soul Silver I planned on using a Gliscor. Then I found out it was HG only. I picked Swinub because I had never used it and I wanted to try it. WOW. It is now my favorite Ice type!
I used togetic on a heartgold playthrough before and honestly it wasn't that bad. I was able to teach it shadow ball quite early and I was able to use it to beat Morty and Jasmine.
I remember having Ariados on my team in the Johto games and having a blast with it. But yeah, I don't think that Gamefreak liked the early Bug types all that much. At least Jumpluff makes up for with Stun Spore. In fact, Jumpluff has been a key party member for my team in Pokemon Colosseum.
Its amazing how so many johto pokemon need 1 more evolution stage or a mega to become great. imagine a bug \ dark mega ariados, a bug \ fighting mega ledian, a fire \ grass mega sunflora... all of them are cool in concept but miss this extra mile for becoming truly great. talk about wasted potential
Ariados is amazing and criminally underrated I have used it on Colosseum, XD: Gale of Darkness and HeartGold and its been amazing every single time and Ariados thrives in Contests. Jumpluff & Forretress are fantastic in Colosseum two of the best Pokemon to use during a playthrough of Colosseum.
Ah yes colloseum, those were the times. Due to availability I only got to play with og coloseum but it was great. I realy hope we get something like it for newer generations.
Mantine is one of those Pokemon thats just in an awkward spot. Its version exclusive in one area and is a rare encounter at that. Ive yet to use one either but i really want to.
Not only that but ya need a Surfer to get it. I like Mantine (probably cause of its face) but by that point switching your current surfer (which is probably a water type too) doesn't seem appealing if you don't double up on types.
If another Johto remake was made, small tweaks like making certain Pokemon available earlier would be a cool idea. No exp share though, and I'm not talking about the item....
sorry but exp share is here to stay. I rather level up my entire team at the same time than level up one at a time. The leveling up in HGSS and GSC sucks.
@@seldomsane5278 exp all stays, because the toggle for XY has proven data that people left it on, despite it being toggleable anyways. So thats why we don't get the option anymore.
@@nickdentoom1173 yeah, I heard about that. A lot of those would be younger and newer players, also was that recorded from the overall player base's first run? Regardless, I still think it's shit, but hey, my daughter doesn't mind it, and she's 8. I guess that's the player base they are going for, which is fair enough, but I still think they should give players the option to switch exp share off though.
I’ve always wanted to use a Slowking on a playthrough team. Water/Psychic is a phenomenal type and I won’t have to wait until level 37 for a King’s Rock in Johto. I’ve just never gotten around to actually doing it.
Johto was severely handicapped in gen 2 and even in gen 4 unless you have 2 DSs and a platinum version so technically if you have that it definitely makes HGSS a more enjoyable playthrough
You get the right defensive match up in game its an autowin. Toxic stall umbreon and aegislash carried me through my X hardcore nuzlocke (which is not a good game to nuzlocke, its too easy. First gym was hard with all the rules but thats it)
Im actually using 3 of these pokemon on my new playthrough, politoed is awesome, piloswine is very good and useful as well, but yanmega… its one of my favorite pokemon but it has no good attacks, i think I didn’t use him more than three times between the third and seventh gym…
Mantine is one of my favorite pokemon. i feel the same way about it that a lot of people do about Lapras, as a kid i imagined exploring the ocean with it. i even used one on my Legends Arceus team despite being limited to Basculegion. Let’s Go Johto when???
I have used Piloswine and i have to say: IT SUCKS. Its too slow for its own liking and it doesn't have the staying power due to its piss poor defenses. Its not usable at all.
Always liked Mantine probably cause of its face but never used in gamem Using Forretress in Ultra Moon currently and it has surprised me! Helped take down Totem Togedemaru, Mimikyu and Ribombee. Also helped with Nanu. Its pretty good and also learns good Ground attacks like Bulldoze and Earthquake. Highly recommend!
I never used Granbull because the Snubull line really has no appeal for me, I think I gave up halfway through trying Jumpluff, I feel like I have used Dunsparce but with little to no recollection, and I definitely did not use Corsola.
I know this isn't best team, but have you thought about doing a best team from the Pokemon you can obtain from the pokewalker of HGSS? Minus the courses that are events / mystery gifts, of course.
I ALWAYS use a Ground type on every team as it is my favorite type. My 1st playth of Soul Silver I planned on using a Gliscor. Then I found out it was HG only. I picked Swinub because I had never used it and I wanted to try it. WOW. It is now my favorite Ice type!
