Can’t believe we are starting the Cold Steele games at almost the same time. Trails really is one of the best franchises out there. Also, you’re super right about Xenoblade 2. Lack of an accessible tutorial was a total nightmare for me 😂
The Cold Steel series was my entry to the Trails series which I got it on the PS Vita when it released. Got into it due to the bond system which was very similar to the Persona’s social links.
I'm in the final stages of the Finale in Trails to Azure and these games are mind blowing. I always heard how awesome they are but it took me forever to get into them because of the number of games and how long the games are. After beating Trails from Zero and now Trails to Azure, I cannot wait to see what the Sky and Cold Steel games have in store for me!
Since i don't own a Switch (PS5 and PC), i never got to play Fire Emblem nor Xenoblade. But i believe they are great! I am waiting on a switch 2 to actually start playing these. Persona is also one of my favourites. But i am here to talk about Trails... I Started Trails in the Sky in earlier of this year, i liked the first game, but was not overjoyed by it, but after it's ending it propped me to continue with SC, and damn that was a HUGE step up over the first. It was GREAT! And then the third is... different. I understood what they tried there, a lot of backstories to the characters and a LOT of dungeon crawling... Next the Crossbell games and HELL YEAH, Azure is A FREAKING MASTERPIECE!!! The pacing, the story, all of the characters are amazing! You can start with the crossbell games no problem. Cold 1 and 2, i liked them, set in the same time line has ZERO and AZURE, they are great games, but mind set they are sloooow burn, in a way they try to mimic persona with the first cold steel and getting to know the people around you in a more depth way. But after you play the bomb games that are zero and azure you will feel a little disapoited. And now i am on Cold steel 3, and trust me... IT RAMPS UP AGAIN, i am near end game, and i put it on par with Azure for me, and it gives sooo much nostalgia feel... I really like cold steel 3. I am pumped for 4 and for Reverie... It was a year i only played Trails saga, since February until now. And i never got bored, i never got tired and i intent to play until "the end" it's a shame i don't know japanese or else Kuro no Kiseki and Crimson sin would next in line for me after reverie. I guess i'll have to wait for daybreak... And i am afraid to end trails because i don't know what else to play after it.
Awesome list and video 😃 I’ve like half of these. The other half I haven’t really tried. FE, Persona, Pokémon, Tales and Ys are fantastic 😁 I’d like to try the others some day. One JRPG franchise that didn’t make it to your list, that would be on mine is the Yakuza series, which is an awesome series!
There are actually several franchises I love that didn't make the cut. Grandia, Dragon Age, and Bravely series for the depth of their combat systems. Mass Effect and Star Ocean for seamlessly being able to blend sci fi and fantasy in a way that creates an incredible world. Mass Effect and Dragon Age even allow you to load data from previous games so that the decisions you made in game 1 will affect the world in game 2 or 3.
Fire Emblem, Xenoblade and the Tales of series are my go to JRPG's. I'm probably the same as you for Fire Emblem, Three Houses is my favourite. But for Xenoblade, I'd have to go with 2. It's just down to personal preference though, I do realise there are many things with the game that 3 objectively did much better. For Tales, It's far and away Tales of Berseria for it's story characters and world. But Arise did feel really good to play, and made a lot of QoL changes that were quite frustrating in Berseria.
A great list =) I would probably have the "Like a Dragon" series in there, as I loved "Yakuza Like a Dragon" and pretty sure I'm gonna love "Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth" once I getaround to play that =)
Well it seems like you listened to me i really appreciate that more people should do that well i said i would and i always keep my word so you just got a new subscriber and one of the greatest ever me of course duh so obvious your welcome btw bro im going to subscribe to you you deserve it keep it up good job dude ^_-😉👍🏻
Solid list, I would personally have also included Team Asano’s games as my favourite JRPG series. (though maybe that’s cheating so more specifically…) Bravely Default in particular if I had to narrow it down to one series but Octopath Traveler is a close second.
Wow, are you me? 😅 You even chose Gold&Silver and dislike Dragon Quest Soundtracks, it's getting frightening. I cannot emphasize enough how great Trails and Ys are, Falcom truely is the most underrated JRPG developer out there. I just can't get into Gust games, so we might not be the same person after all. 😄
I always feel like Final Fantasy 12 gets overlooked when people talk about "The Best Final Fantasy". It's my favorite because it is the only Final Fantasy where your character, Vaan, is not the main character of the story. The political intrigue, the gambit system still being one of the best JRPG battle systems to get rolling, and the genuine uncertainty going in to the final dungeon make it criminally underrated. I think most of that is because it was the last Final Fantasy on the PS2. After the first MMO, and before the controversial 13, Final Fantasy 12 feels like it never got a fair shot.
In Final Fantasy 10, Tidus is an outsider that tags along with Yuna's adventure. While he has some stake in the story because of Jecht, every place that you go, you do so because there is a temple that Yuna must visit for her pilgrimage. Every character in your party joins for the purpose of becoming Yuna's guardian.
@@Eternalwarpuppy Did you miss the many parts where Tidus quite literally shouts "This is my story"? His motive aligns with Yuna's, yes. Both are trying to get to Zanarkand. Tidus, however, is clearly the driving force behind the entire plot. Yuna is a plot device, used for the purpose of sending both Tidus and Sin. Vaan, on the other hand, is a tag-along to Basch and Ashe's arcs. He has no goal from the outset that drives the entire game. His motive is, quite literally, to get rich and become a pirate.
I love all the franchise here (except Atelier/Ys I've only try ys8) and yeah they are logical choices and biggest franchise. As an FE fan Engage is my favorite of the modern Era but to be honest he isn't in my top 10 FE games. New players need to play older games they have clearly less quality of life but they have a far better map design and FE4 + FE9&10 are the best story lines and world building of the franchise. I do like Three Houses too even tho maps were tedious, characters were pretty cool. The only one I dislike is Awakening (and a bit of Fates)
Xenoblade Chronicles isn't a franchise. The franchise is tentavily titled the Xeno Franchise as its also consists of Xenogears and the Xenosaga trilogy as well. Persona is also a spin off of the larger Megami Tensei franchise.
