Yes. Black Widow should probably be on the list. Hasbro made it a Target exclusive with terrible distribution though and I'm not paying aftermarket prices for a Hasbro product. They never even had a spot for them at my local store.
I consider it the best ML of 2023, and insanely, it was a pegwarmer where I live. I bought five for displays and kitbashes (the body makes an excellent Tactical Baroness from GI Joe) and easily could have had many more at retail from the ones I kept seeing on pegs. I only ever saw Spiral once in person, for $50 at a comic and toy show. For being a Hasbro figure, she is spectacular and I can definitely see her being #1. I may still pick one up if I see it again somewhere.
I've been waiting for a BW review all year but Anthony said he will only review it if he snags one and not paying the scalper price. I've only seen it 2x in the wild and all were sold out the next week 🤦🏼 never seen a spiral in the wild, only at comic stores and for $30+
I was just about to post about the Black Widow figure. I understand your point of view on how difficult is was for some people to get. i seen her in store 2 times and 1st time i had to ask for her because she was in the back. I hope they do a re-release for her as it's a very strong release.
That's because Anthony trusts that real AnthonysCustoms fans know that he'll always be number 1, regardless of year. Doesn't need to be said, it's an unspoken love.
Ultimate Cap was my favorite this year, not because he was the best but because I had the most fun with him. And after a paint job and slight articulation tweaks he is awesome. On a side note, this might have been the worst year for BaFs other than 2012 with the Rocket Raccoon and Puck releases.
Wow, I can’t believe you found ten figures for this list! Thanks for everything you do, Anthony! You save me a ton of money and I appreciate your content greatly. All the best to you and your family in 2024!
Regarding what you said at the end of the video, it'd be cool to see you do a TOP 5 GI JOE figures of 2023; most of those GI JOEs are not only really good but you don't even have to like the franchise itself to want them. I think some of them would make cool custom ninjas while other ones look like generic yet badass spec-ops.
That Astonishing Cyclops was one of my faves too, for sure. I feel like thats the way Hasbro should approach reuse. Just enough added sculpt and paint to make it feel new. He only needed an unmasked head and a blast effect and he would've been perfect.
Love the fact that you managed a way to find ten ML in a very poor year. I thought it was going to be Black Widow ten times😂😂😂. Love your videos. Keep it up.
I just got that one last week and she’s an incredible figure. I never saw one in any stores and it was sold out online by the time I thought to order it, so I ended up trading for her.
It'll probably never happen, but it'd be nice to see you review some of Hasbro's other lines like GI Joe (which you mention) and Transformers. I think it's safe to say that's where most of their budget goes.
Great list! Yes Spiral! I'm not even too familiar with the character but I still picked her up since her design is neat and all the articulation in the arms is so cool. I totally wanna animate her one day even though moving all those arms will be very challenging
honestly looking back this year legends didn't really have anything that stood out too much (I was very excited for movie goblin, its nice but too expensive) also because ross is going crazy I want to get them for 5.99 rather than 24.99. I do think the quality of headsculpts is really improving incredibly but honestly the predictable feeling in hand (paint, texture and plastic) have really been burning me out on these. Probobaly the most memorable one this year for me other than goblin is the new tombstone I got in hong kong, excited to see you review that!
I'm impressed the Final Fantasy Spiderman, the Target Exclusive, didn't make it on the list, is it because hes just a recolor? (The spider on the back is blue)
this is the best top 10 list so far for ML, as I own 70% of the figures..👍😅.. I particularly appreciate the 5 pack figures, I didn't intend to buy them til they were sold @ $80 on amazon, not that they're not worth the purchase, but figures are ridiculously expensive now.
"I don't think Hasbro has made a figure that couldn't be better" - Anthony's Customs, 2023. "Where Fans Comes First" should be updated with your quote. Your list was thought provoking and extremely poignant alluding to both the positives and negatives on each product. Exclusively collecting Marvel comic-based action figures, I agree with you that 2023 was just not their year.
I haven’t bought a Marvel Legends since Hasbro started making them with noticeably cheap plastic. I grew up with the Toybiz era. Every single figure felt premium and came with a comic. That was the best. But I want that Iron Man mk 1 and I’ll give him a stellar wash and love him forever
Considering we own the figure, in hand, the Black Widow figure is our #1 pick for the year. It is such a shame, though, that Hasbro made the narrow-minded decision to make it a Target exclusive; it only complicated things for collectors. Nevertheless, we 100% agree with your Top 10 List, Anthony!
Sweet video! Ill be taking a break from legends and mainly focusing on jada toys street fighter and megaman. Those figures are just too good to pass on.
Agreed that MLs were not impressive overall this year, and I took my time even picking up Spiral. And I'd been on the fence about Iron Man despite really wanting a new Mk1 version. I only relented after seeing reviews, and once I had him in-hand, it felt so right.
Hasbro was bad enough this year that I stopped paying full price for anything. There were maybe 15 decent ones out of 130 or whatever they put out this year. I really liked the MCU Khonshu and Moon Knight designs and figures and I'm still casually in the market for a Blob, but that's about it.
The last Target exclusive Black Widow should have definitely been on this list. One of the very few Marvel Legends releases that was actually worth the retail price.
For some reason I thought this was the worst ML list but noticed that the #10 to #8 were all solid releases. Then when we got to Blade, I knew I read the thumbnail & title wrong haha
Saw this video and thought “hold up. There are more than 3 Marvel Legends figures Anthony actually liked this year?” Still good to hear he likes the good ones Hasbro put out. And yeah that Black Widow was a little hard to get even for those who preordered her.
Good list Anthony, I only have the lizard which I do like, as I usually only buy spiderman related marvel legends. 2024 should be an interesting year as to where Hasbro decides to go with their toy lines.
I own 2 figures on your list. Spiral and Cyclops. There are 2 figures from the list I would like to get. Blade and that Monet chick. You did a great list with what you had to use. 😅
Hoping to see if I can get an elektra daredevil in the new year. Seen somebody dremmel in the hips for better leg ROM and she would look fantastic repainted
Don't have Monet, don't have Pretty Boy, was going to get Cyclops, I have Blade and First Appearance Iron Man, I kind of want Darektra, I have Ultimate Cap, I want the Lizard but even more McFarlanized, I want Strife, and I have Spiral
I read below the thing with Widow. That is completely understandable. It happens to me too with my target. But my brother sent me one as a gift. My list is a little different from yours cause the money was tight and I do classified too. So I was not able to get that X-men villain pack......((YET)) The Stryfe looks decent. But there is reasons I didn't get that box set. Lizard I missed it cause Walmart is a douche. and like you I was NOT going to pay double to get it. Spiral had first place the moment I got her.
Great video, Idk why but for this year I personally didn't get the feeling of enthusiasm while watching this list, like you said all figures seem fine,..."for marvel legends"...
Firm but fair as always. 1st year I didn’t get any Legends figures. Could be because I think I have everything I want. But nothing peaked my interest. Could be the closed boxes. Can’t see it for real on the pegs so I don’t want to take a chance. Maybe this will change now that they changed back. Just my 2 cents
It was really hard for me to come up with a top ten Marvel Legends list this year. Only a couple stand out to me and that's Black Widow and Blob. (I can't remember if I got Spiral this year or last.....)
Spiral would be higher on my list if she wasn’t so difficult to stand up. They should’ve made the legs heavier or something to counterweight the 6 arms and swords.
Disagree completely and no, ive got 200+ Marvel Legends figures. Long time collector and active member of the community. I think you're a bit biased with your hate towards Hasbro and Marvel Legends by this point. Shartimus just put out his top 10 and as he said "a lot of great comic character this year". @AnthonysCustoms
Great character selection doesn't mean great figures. There were a few standouts but this year definitely had more bad figures than any year i can think of. When you're talking about quality figures, this year was a huge let down...and that's not even considering the higher prices than any other year.
My list is quite a bit different. I didn't get a ton of Legends this year, but I'd absolutely put The Destroyer, VHS Doc Ock, Black Widow, and Extremis Iron Man on mine
For Me in no order: Knights Daredevil Across the Spider-Verse Spider-Gwen X-Men 97 Wolverine Bucky Barnes Captain America Incredible Hulk Joe Fixit Sky-Cycle Hawkeye No Way Home final swing Spider-Man No Way Home Green Goblin Target exclusive Black Widow Uncanny X-Men Spiral
It’s a good list. I would throw in Corsair as honorable mention. I see you haven’t reviewed the Deadpool and Hydra Bob 2-Pack. I know you’re a Deadpool guy, I remember the cool customs you used to make in the Toy Biz series 6 Deadpool days. You never got around to getting it?
@@AnthonysCustoms Yeah I understand, I’m the same way. Plus they’ll probably just rerelease the figure in retail individually like how they did it with the pulse exclusive Spider-Man 3-Pack
I stuck to what I said on one of your videos last year and haven't spent any money on Hasbro this year, it's just not worth the almost 30 bucks for ther stuff anymore.
Weak-ass year for sure. Question: Is this windowless packaging madness over for good? Or does it only seem like it because they're just releasing more retros
@@AnthonysCustoms You're absolutely right. Even these retro carded figures come with minimal accessories, no BAF parts, and are still priced the same. I hate it. WTF was Elektra as Daredevil doing on a retro card? What even is retro, if she's considered one?
Given your reticence in response to Hasbro’s products with this line overall, I’m surprised you found ten figures deemed worthy enough to take slots on your list.
@@AnthonysCustoms I thought the same, the paint and all that looks incredible same with the BTAS ones but yeah the articulation does look basic. Tho I guess that is the same for all that scale
I think this was a good year for Legends for the most part. It was still mixed, but there was a decent amount of good stuff, as opposed to last year when there really wasn't. For me, Black Widow definitely tops the list, she's basically everything she needs to be, other than the ab crunch feeling a bit outdated. Spiral and Elektra Daredevil were good too, so maybe this year will be seen as a turning point for female Marvel Legends figures.
@@tusharg8452 if we're being honest the last time ML was solid throughout the year was what, 2016 or 2017? It's really really gone down hill since then. Not sure if the licensing costs went up or if the team got complacent with their earlier success, but effort has definitely changed.
The economy is a big problem too, if you check, all prices have been sky rocketing and almost every figure from every line are going down with accessories. Except joe's.
To everyone saying “what about Black Widow?” just stop. That figure is so basic it’s completely overrated. Good figure, sure. But stop acting like Hasbro cracked some secret “code” with that one. It’s what a STANDARD figure SHOULD be. There’s nothing all that special about it.
All around terrible time to be a hasbro collector and they definitely dropped the ball since last year furthermore I’m not sure if the 35 dollar price range is the way to go I agree less figures would be better but if jada toys can make amazing figures at that price then so can hasbro
idk......As you have already acknowledged, Black Widow should be on the list. She's easily number one because she's great as a figure and once you buy her, you never need another BW figure as long as you live. Sorry you couldn't get one at MSRP. I don't know how anyone (and you're not the only ToyTuber) can like that Lizard. I thought exclusives, especially Wal Mart exclusives were public enemy #1 for collectors! He has a goofy looking head sculpt, the other one ain't much better, his tail barely attaches and stays on, while any movement threatens detachment, and his clothes are the laziest Hasblow "we can reuse this for anyone that needs to be put in these type clothes" styling. Haven't opened my Blade yet. Ultimates Cap is cool, prefer the 20th Anv version. I know everyone is blowing their load over Spiral. I just can't force myself to get a figure like that that I've never heard of, or know anything about. "This figure is cool" money is limited. Love the Mark I Iron Man more than I thought I would. Has a deceptive amount of range of motion. No love for Renew Your Vows Spider-Man, '97 Magneto, Blob, black and white Moon Knight, or Jigsaw? You're not kidding about Hasblow's G.I. Joes making Legends look like crap! How is there that much of a discrepancy in quality? Is it just because Hasblow makes sure to use the first cut of the budget (plus clearly more slices than normal) on their in house IP that they don't have to pay a license fee for? It also doesn't speak well for a brand or line when a Top 10 is more than halfway made up of "okay" figures with about 4 or 5 being true standouts. lol
Well this list just goes to re-enforce that I've all but given up on ML. In the past I would have easily had 8 or more figures on the list. This year it's 2...😅
@@AnthonysCustoms Blob has had a lot of different looks over the years. He first appeared in X-Men #3. The figure is a good representation of a composite of his different looks. He's got new sculpting, exactly the right size, and has just enough detail. I don't see how he could have been better short of having a rubber belly.
He shouldve looked like the he does in 99% of the comics where he has exaggerated size and shape. This figure actually just looks like a normal human fat guy.
@@AnthonysCustoms there's a lot of variance in how he's drawn. This one has a more exaggerated belly than his appearances in the early 60s, but not as exaggerated as the 90s onward. I think it's a happy medium. Yes, he looks like the average obese American, which says more about us than it does about him.
The only one i have from this list is the number one figure. I think out of the nearly 1,100 that got fired, the marvel legends team should have also been let go.
