AG CumingsLedbetter thank god for bootlegs! I’m hoping to see it when it comes to Toronto next year though. Here’s hoping the ticket prices aren’t too insane ;-;
Honestly unless you're a big fan of hip-hop/R&B you're better off seeing Come From Away. That said if you have $800 to drop on Hamilton... go for it. It's a show people should watch once (if they can afford it). The music is the biggest draw of Hamilton and if you have the soundtrack you honestly have experienced the best part of it already. It pretty much covers the entire story (unlike some soundtracks) and there are not as many little nuances that you get from seeing the play that enhance the story, as the music itself gets the point across very very well.
Real honorable mentions: -Be More Chill -Heathers -Beetlejuice -Anastasia -The Prom -literally relevant musicals Edit: by relevant musicals, I mean literally any musical that people talk about. Hadestown, Prom, Waitress, what have you.
THANK YOU. I mean, mean girls is great, and all but there are SO many better musicals. (No offense to anyone who loves mean girls, it's just my opinion)
They probably just googled “musicals in the 2010’s” and picked the first ones that came up. Trust me a lot of underrated musicals aren’t on this list and it’s so annoying.
@@lucygg8164 it's actually not. It's for the best, not the most popular, not the most iconic, and not the most underrated. what Victoria is trying say is that there are many shows that aren't as hyped but are very good, such as Great Comet, The Band's Visit, Once, Gentleman's Guide, and Shuffle Along (Idk if those are Victoria's picks but I think it's a good list) that deserve more recognition because they're some of the best, not the most popular
@@kizzyneetyan It's not that they don't count, it's that 1) Plenty of people still haven't seen it yet, and 2) Cultural relevance usually isn't understood for a few years This is kind of a weird list to make, not because it's bad but because time really decides what musicals are classics and which aren't so any picks will be hotly debated whereas the 80s and 90s the most popular/essential musicals are more or less a consensus
"If you still haven't managed to snag ticket to see Hamilton; are you even a real broadway fan?" This quote made me so upset. What if Hamilton hasn't come to you country yet... and won't for another year and a half... do you really expect 'true broadway fans' to spend up to ten thousand dollars for tickets, flights and accomdation. Is it not enough to have seen the bootleg a hundred times, learn the show word for word (including Lauren's Lament)? Just because some people haven't seen the show in person doesn't mean they're not a true broadway fan... and, honestly are the people who made this list true broadway fans?... who leaves out shows like Catch Me If You Can or Finding Neverland or Pretty Woman or Moulin Rouge and only given honourable mentions to shows like Waitress and Hadestown???? A "true broadway fan" would have made the list "Top 20 Musicals of the 2010's"
THANK YOU!!!! I can't afford to get tickets that are $1000, fly to america and stay in a hotel just for one night. Don't get me wrong, it's an amazing musical (my favourite musical) but I can't afford it. What they said was pretty rude and I hope they realize that. I'm just gonna have to wait until it comes to Australia in 2021. Also yes there should have been a 'Top 20 musicals of the 2010's' because there is a lot of musicals that were better than the Mean Girls musical (just my opinion). I get why Six and Beetlejuice aren't on the list because they're new but Heathers should have been on there (again just my opinion). Sorry you had to hear my rant. I just really wanted to get it out of my system
"If you haven't managed to snag tickets to Hamilton yet, are you a real Broadway fan?" Well I'm sorry I better get in a plane and fly to see it from Finland.
I live in the USA in Texas and I don't think I can be able to see it. Plus I don't even know if they even have performed in any city in Texas before. (Well okay it's my fault for not knowing about musicals like Heathers, Mean Girls, Hamilton, DEH, and Six. Until late last year...) so I'm guessing Wicked would be the only musical I would have seen on Broadway so far...
"If you haven't managed to snag tickets to Hamilton yet, are you a real Broadway fan?" Really MsMojo? Wow, what a horrible, insulting, totally privileged thing to say. That's really disappointing. First, this ignores the millions of people who were Broadway fans before Hamilton came out, and the decades of musical theatre history that existed before it, upon which it is built. Secondly, ACCESS is IMPORTANT! Not everyone has access to live theater, especially when the tickets are well over $100 and usually closer to $300, $600, and up. That's really a pretty tone-deaf comment.
Hadestown being an honorable mention and Anastasia not even getting a mention. What about The Great Comet? All three of those are better than Mean Girls.
Hamilton deserves the number one spot for sure. No doubt. Though I have one important question... Why is Hadestown honorable mentions?...I'm pretty sure it won best musical this year...
Id honestly take any musical that was left off (Waitress, Anastasia, SpongeBob, etc.) over DEH, for the life of me I don't understand how people don't find this musical extremely toxic and problematic. Cant stand it tbh.
If you do a little poking around you can actually find Hamilton tickets for Philly for about a hundred and 150 I paid 147 for mine so that's definitely an option if you can get down there or live around the area
"If you haven't been able to snag a Hamilton ticket, are you even a fan"? Me: WELL SORRY IF IM FREAKING BROKE!!!! Edit: Ok but like Be more Chill? Heathers? Beetlejuice? SIX??????
When she talks about Hamilton and says “If you have managed to snag tickets to Hamilton yet, are you a real broadway fan?” Just because people can’t afford to go to America and see Hamilton or aren’t able to then they can be a broadway fan or not jezz -_-
@@gracejennings9034 because of the cultural impact that it is causing, obvioulsy, Hamilton became a international sensation and a viral sensation online so that's why hamilton is consider number one and plus Hamilton is really good
My list: 10- Hadestown 9- Newsies 8- The Book of Mormon 7- Come from away 6- Mean girls 5- Heathers 4- Dear Evan Hansen 3- Matilda 2- Waitress 1- Hamilton
Though I do like that they put the underrated musicals like come from away and fun home in there but the order it's in isn't right and they indeed missed a few
I am truly disappointed with this list. Mean Girls at 10 while Waitress, Beautiful and Hadestown are at Honorable mention?!?!? And The Prom, Be More Chill and SpongeBob The Musical doesn't make it!? This list is bull.
Ainsley Grace Oh my god thank you so much. Currently I’m in the Chicago area so I’m trying to see it there before it closes in January. But again THANK YOU!! ❤️❤️
Damn I’m so personally offended that Hadestown wasn’t in the top 5 and that The Great Comet didn’t even get an honourable mention. I mean seriously, Mean Girls is cool and all but those two and even Waitress are better stories by far. I mean, really Hadestown won 8 (WELL DESERVED) Tony’s this year!! Are you kidding me?
Jen Jenn-Finally someone brings up the exclusion from this list of Natasha, Pierre & the great comet. It's absolutely criminal how that show gets so little appreciation, it deserved so much better. Also where's Bridges Of Madison County? It seems to be another musical everyone seems to just forget about, but it has a beautiful score & really deserves more attention. And I'd have put Once on the list instead of just being an honourable mention.
I love mean girls but they just picked a familiar and popular name and slapped it on the list. There are so many better musicals that sell much better and are way more appreciated in the musical theatre community
I love Heathers, but I do understand why it wouldn’t be on the list when comparing some of the others on the list. Like seriously Heathers is one of my favourite musicals but like Be More Chill I think it definitely has a smaller audience and would resonate mostly with young people even though it’s a based on an older movie. It’s fan base, while really dedicated and vocal, is mostly younger people from what I’ve seen and just wouldn’t have had the amount of impact as the other musicals on the list. Its why I’m surprised Mean Girls is on the list instead of waitress tbh. Plus even though the title didn’t really say “broadway musicals” it does seem they only included and probably only considered broadway musicals
@@jennii8647 that's why we are "offended" they gave Mean Girls the 10th spot and it's pretty much new, Heathers would of been a much better pick, but tbh I don't even know the rules to making this list
The *real* top 10: 1. Hamilton 2. Hadestown 3. Dear Evan Hansen 4. Waitress 5. Newsies 6. School of Rock 7. Come From Away 8. The Addams Family 9. Frozen 10. Matilda _I actually haven't listened to Beetlejuice yet but from what I've heard about it I'm sure it would be in there somewhere lol_
For those wanting a quick list from the video, here you go 😊 10. Mean Girls 9. Fun Home 8. Something Rotten! 7. Matilda the Musical 6. Kinky Boots 5. Newsies 4. Come from Away 3. Dear Evan Hansen 2. The Book of Mormon Honorable Mentions: Waitress, Hadestown, Beautiful: the Carol King Musical, Once, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder 1. Hamilton
Seriously? Mean girls over Hadestown? Hadestown deserves top 3, at LEAST. Come on. I get Hamilton being number one, that makes sense. But Hadestown AND Waitress are honorable mentions when they deserve top ten? Come on.
The Lightning Thief: the Percy Jackson Musical just got on broadway, so I really do hope it'll make the list of best musicals for the coming decade. it's an incredibly fin adaption of the popular book done by people who are truly passionate about it and it really shows. By far one of my fav musicals
- where are beetlejuice bmc heathers and six - waitress deserved to be on the list - hamilton shouldn’t of been the top spot (i love it so much but i feel like deh should’ve gotten first)
BMC and Heathers I agree. Beetlejuice was not as popular when this video was made. I do think Hamilton deserves #1 because of its influence in current musicals and how it made a whole country look at a Broadway show and be like "hey that's neat" for like a year and a half
in the list's defence, hadestown's broadway run has just begun, so while I personally like it more than most of the list (I've been a fan of the original album for like six years) who knows if people will remember it two years from now? 🤷
abbie baillif same if hamilton was releases before book of mormon it will be number 1 but since the gen z theatre kids love messy mashups and people screaming its number 1
hey ya'll need to chill, yes I am gen z hamiltrash, but this does not mean that I think that other musicals aren't worthy of the #1 spot omg , I never meant to offend anyone oof *btw sorry for my english, it's my second language*
yeah but i wouldnt say it is the best, I love hamilton but I do think it is a little overrated there are a lot of shows that do a lot more in terms of content than Hamilton, I love Hamilton but I disagree with it being higher than musicals which are actual musicals, Hamilton is more of an opera or concert than a musical
@@jacobmiles8770 how is it not a musical? I can kind of understand why people would think six isn't a musical, but Hamilton has a plot, a stage setup, people aren't allowed to record it, it has costumes, and I don't know if I'd really consider the music opera.
@@mckenzieehlers5328 opera isnt a style opera is a form, the fact that it has costumes and rapping doesnt make it a musical operas have all of the things you described but their stories are told only through the use of music and dont typically have dialogue (if they do it is in very small amounts) thats why i think hamilton is a rap opera but if u disagree then thats fine
“If you haven’t managed to snag a ticket to Hamilton, are you even a broadway fan?” Let’s reverse it then and say if the only thing you’ve seen on broadway or just listened to the soundtrack of is Hamilton and dear Evan Hanson are you even a broadway fan. Seriously just because I haven’t seen one overblown show doesnt mean anything. I’m more of a broadway fan than those who have just seen Hamilton
Hanna Leise I’ve only seen Hamilton, yet I love many many many musicals. Hamilton is just my favorite and what introduced me to the world of broadway. Are you any better by saying only seeing Hamilton makes you less a fan? I’d love to see other musicals, but I can’t afford it.
I just think it's a shame they're only including us as "Broadway" fans, I've seen so many musicals on stage in my life, yet have never been to New York, replace "Broadway fan" with "Musical theatre fan", there are loads of other outlets for musical theatre performance than just on Broadway. To elaborate on the point you've made though, there are people out there who save up so much money to go and see shows, these people truly are fanatics (which is what "fan" is short for), just because you don't have $500 for a Hamilton ticket in your back pocket this very moment doesn't mean you can't save your money to go and see it if you really want to. And obviously you can be a broadway fan without going to see one particular show, everyone has their own taste, personally I really like musicals with good creative flair in the score, which is why I can't stand Andrew Lloyd Webber, I find his material tedious and unengaging (Phantom is probably the most overrated musical of all time) plus it doesn't help that he's a total prick.
TheTradge I love ALW’s School Of Rock but that’s about it from him. But I agree, I’ve never been to New York either, as much as I’d love too, I haven’t got anywhere near enough money for that
Well... As long as you enjoy something, yes, you are a fan of it 🤔 It's like saying "Ho, you only tasted vanilla and chocolate flavor? Well, you are not a fan of ice cream!" It's just mean for all the people who just enter the musical theatre universe with Hamilton Thank you 😊
True. I got into musical theatre through Hamilton but I've seen tons after that. If the only musical you've seen is Hamilton, then you're a Hamilton fan, not a musical theatre fan
In my opinion the lightning thief was horrible! I saw it off Broadway in Philadelphia, and it really didn’t deserve broadway status. (It was only on Broadway as a theater filler anyway)
[Insert edgy band names] thems fighting words! Lol my best friend just saw Be More Chill on Broadway a couple weeks ago in New York he also got to meet George Salazar (Michael) he said the show was amazing.
The fact that Waitress is only an honorable mention is honestly so upsetting to me. As someone who has been fortunate enough to see it live, I can't even say enough how beautiful this musical is. The lights, the set, the acting and songs, they are all so, so lovely. The character development in the musical is insane and I could never get sick of them. Not only that but Sara Bareilles is a songwriting genius. For example, in a song (in which I cannot remember precisely), there is music playing in the background along to the song 'Lulu's pie song'. I just can't explain. If Waitress is coming to your area once this is over, please, I can't say this enough, get tickets.
I’m not saying any of the shows they chose are bad, but some of them definitely aren’t the best of the decade. Plus, the order is a bit off. As for the not being a really Broadway fan if you haven’t seen Hamilton, was the really necessary? Some of us can’t drop $1000 dollars on one show.
1. ok hamilton tickets are like $100 dollars what are you doing were broke 2. i love mean girls with all my heart and soul but hades townj should have been higher 3. **wheres beetlejuice im so mad**
$100 is actually not bad. Most shows are around that price. Hamilton tickets are like $500 AND in high demand. This is the reason most people haven’t seen it yet,
"If you haven't managed to snag tickets to Hamilton yet, are you even a real Broadway fan?" well i'm soRRY I CANT JUST PACK UP AND GO TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COUNTRY
My top 10 list of the 2010s (In no order): Hamilton! Newsies! Something Rotten! Waitress! Heathers! Beetlejuice! Come From Away! Hadestown! A N A S T A S I A!!!! S I X X X X X X X X!!! Honorable Mentions! (Aka: Musicals that are also my favorite but this is only a top 10 list aha) Tuck Everlasting! Book Of Mormon! Dear Evan Hansen! Be More Chill! (Also I was literally heartbroken when Hadestown and Waitress only got a honorable mention. They deserve much better! And I could've included a lot lot more but these are my top!)
Question: “If you haven’t managed to snag tickets, are you even a real Broadway fan?” Answer: I haven’t seen it but that’s cause tickets are WAY out of my price range. That doesn’t mean I am not a Broadway fan it means I’m poor.
Oh c’mon! The Hunchback of Notre Dame isn’t even an honorable mention? Sure, it didn’t make it to broadway, but that’s just because they didn’t want to pay for all the choir members! This masterpiece deserves more!
Beetlejuice Bonnie and Clyde Heathers Be More Chill Hadestown (It got an honourable mention but should be within the top 5 at least) The Lightning Thief
