I don't understand the logic behind cancelling all these shows - what sort of proposition is that for potential new subscribers? "Yeah, sign up and watch all these great shows... that never got an ending..." No thanks. Having a roster full of cancelled shows can't be good for business.
The Hero we needed! Thank you. Hate it when someone does a list and doesn't show it in the video description - so you have to watch the whole thing listening to their pointless yammering before you get to the point.
Ya it was great just wish the last 3 seasons had better writing material to work with or they changed far more for the adaptation to tv. The production value was clearly better last 3 seasons but the writing was a decent downgrade. The transitions, build up, focus and so on needed to be revised and adapted better or even new plot points added, didn't they have the original author involved to consult? It was like they were trying to make something out of limited material for the last 3 seasons. They should have had a plotline threw the last 3 seasons of some sort of more active development of alien discovery perhaps even indirectly like left over remnants of a civilization that was destroyed by the aliens and what they experienced and their warning. Frankly I don't get how I can add so much to bolster the plot thinking it up in a few moments when these people are supposed to be professional writers. It's like how absurd Raised by Wolves got fulling leaning into esoteric nonsense the second season with zero payoff in the plot, it may as well been made by an AI because it ended up just being more and more vaguely related stuff just thrown in and lets pretend it's a plot.
all of that alien stuff comes in the later books that they didin't adapt to the TV yet. ( can always hope theyll revisit it some day. [in the books there is a 30 year time jump])@@WaterspoutsOfTheDeep

I was really enjoying "Raised by Wolves". When it came to sci-fi on film it was truely unique. Sadly cancelled with so many questions left unanswered & no resolution.
10. Halo - Paramount + 9. Hello Tomorrow - Apple TV+ 8. The Ark - Syfy 7. Black Midnight - Netflix 6. Foundation - Apple TV+ 5. The Silent Sea - Netflix 4. The Expanse - Prime Video, Syfy 3. Raised by Wolves - HBO Max 2. Black Mirror - Netflix 1. Silo - Apple TV+
Expanse is by far superior to all of the other 9 (not saying they are bad - it's just Expanse is bloody AMAZING! You do have to be patient through Season 1 as the character development takes whole season, but it is absolutely top notch! I would watch another 10 Seasons of it!
@@gamesforever5038 Expanse is good, yes, but not far superior to Foundation or Raised by Wolves. Of/c everything is a matter of taste. Expanse had some epic moments but also some epic failures. I was often divided to love or hate it. I met my top-of-all with BSG (2003) and that rank was only scratched by the Expanse. To be clear, I always hope that the next SF show could be better than BSG, in terms of world-building, innovation and immerse, and sometimes Foundation looked like it could be on par with that, even when I basically don't like Asimov. But it was, sadly, not stringent, and lost itself in some uninspired storyline choices, sometimes just held together by some wonderful actors. Now Andor, not mentioned here, started, after some WTF moments in the beginning, to become increasingly impressive and captivating, maybe next season we can enjoy even more.
@@pontram 100% agree. BSG was on a different level. while expanse had it's moments, most of the characters and factions never really clicked with me. most of them where just awful in their motivations and execution. also quite a bit too many storylines at the same time going on without proper explanations to why any of it happens, which made it hard to follow the plot at all sometimes, especially the protomolecule one. seemed more like a plot device that does whatever the writer needs it to do at the time.
Despite being a huge sci fI fan, I have become extremely reluctant to start watching sci-fi series over the years, the list of SF series abruptly cancelled is long and ever growing. Too many shows we never got a conclusion to. - Revolution - Dark matter (still extremely livid about that one) - The Sarah Connor Chronicles - The Event - Dark Angel - Flashforward - Caprica - V (the second run) - I Am Not Okay With This (Netflix) These are just a bunch of the series I personally watched and got shafted on (I probably have forgotten more than I listed), I am 100% sure others can easily double this list and recently, while searching interesting series to start watching I came across 3 on Netflix, still available but some research will tell you they have been cancelled and unfinished as well. Geeez, I wonder,... why do sci fi series don't get an immediate huge viewership?
Add to that Colony that had a very annoying abrupt end and Continuum....although at least they did a short wrap up season. Better than nothing, but not available here 😡
@@paulf.5261 Colony is one of those shows on Netflix I was planning to watch but I did the research first,... so scratch that... I don't get why they don't just remove it from Netflix, what's the point watching it if it has no ending?
I was surprised by The Ark. I really got into it. Raised By Wolves....WHY DID THEY CANCEL THIS? Both my husband and I are fans of this show. The show was fresh and each episode always left me asking more questions, which is what I like in my sci-fi. Worse is that cliff hanger the show ended on. I wish they would at the very least, bring it back for one last season or as a couple of specials to give it a proper ending.
It could have been great but it ended up going nowhere second season which is probably why it got canceled there was no plot payoff. They basically sabotaged the show themselves. And now 2 seasons later we are left with nothing answered it's actually infuriating because it had everything going for it.
Raised By Wolves was frickin' awesome, but the greedy, imagination vacuums at HBO decided to pull it, even though it was extremely popular. Apparently, they could make more money from yet another show about teenage vampires falling in and out of love.
As at 10 Nov 2023, IMDB score .... 10. Halo 7.2 9. Hello Tomorrow 6.3 8. The Ark 5.3 7. Black Knight 6.4 6. Foundation 7.5 5. The Silent Sea 6.9 4. The Expanse 8.5 3. Raised by Wolves 7.5 2. Black Mirror 8.7 1. Silo 8.1
And that shows how terrible IMDB ratings are lol. Halo 7.2? rofl and Silo and Foundation should be much higher if they are putting Expanse at 8.5 and Raised by Wolves at 7.5...
I loved Raised by Wolves. And this was despite hating some of the obvious "making it up as we go along" that occurred later on just to keep the series going. Starbuck was an angel.
If you watch again Raised by Wolves, you will see that it was all planned from the beginning... watch the paintings in the first episode... see if the scenes in the paintings ring a bell
@@TANKE777 challenged happily accepted! But this better not be a case of me ordering a pizza, the pizza showing up and then me thinking it was prophecy!
I hate ANY "making of" regardless for what movie or series. Just plain stupid. I have made an idea about a character, let's say Danaeris Targaryan in GOT then he appears everywhere gigling and making fun and giving away thinks from the shooting. WTAF. Who asked for that??
id throw apple tv's For all Mankind in there too. 3 seasons with a 4th soon to release. Pretty good alternate reality of the space race where the Soviets were the 1st to the moon and the space race continued for decades afterwards, including to Mars
It's a solid show, the space stuff they do really well, but some of the romance plotlines just flat out suck and almost destroy the show in some instances. Don't want to spoil anything but two romance plotlines in particular made me say "what the fuck, why is this in this show?". With a few exceptions, I see very little to no point in these romance subplots, they're not fulfilling and they're not done well at all. That's why I think season 4 was their best season yet, because it had very little of that BS in there. Looks like they learned their lesson from previous seasons, and I hope they keep remembering it.
This year I discovered south korea´s movie industry. Here ,brazilians are falling in love with it. .. I simply love it, man, I can not say enough how good their work is. I don´t have to be struggling with political agendas in their movies, their fantasies are all mixed with their beliefs of their ancient traditions of reincarantions and powers of the human body, their hero journey is well contructed, there is a bit of naivité in them, their heros are the heroes I grew up watching, not wimpy those puppy/dogs some american industries have them become.. Besides it is an opportunity to learn about a different culture, a new language and cry a lot with their love stories. A different mind set!
@@brandonbowerstx Squid game is fun, dramatic, interesting and very popular, think the op is talking about Alchemy of Souls (my guess) which was also popular
Raised by Wolves was way to cerebral for the average plebe viewer. To say that there was a lot going on is understating it. Shame it was cancelled, HBO sucks.
@@WaterspoutsOfTheDeep apparently it was mostly set up for season 3...so understandable. S1 was kinda incomprehensible as well with certain aspects, like the giant orbs etc.
@@rpscorp9457 Showrunner claimed to have some big overarching story planned out and all we got to see was the largely incoherent setup. It's so annoying because it might have been great. These shows need to have a contract for 3 seasons or something so this bs stops.
It would have been helpful to mention whether each of the series were complete, cancelled well before the story was completed or is ongoing (for example Raised By Wolves, cancelled for expense despite its popularity - the reason i cancelled HBO/Max)
Yeah, seems popularity and the opinion of the viewers is not a determining factor in the entertaining industry what so ever. Take Firefly for an example.
Raised By Wolves being cancelled is so unforgivable, that story has left so many unexplained plots, it just make the audience feel like cheated! Shame on HBO!!!
@@樂123It was interesting until it became a bit silly... I think it is bad scifi if each episode introduces something "unexpected" and outside a certain "boundary" of the universe. It will create an unending stream of mysteries that will only disappoint as it will take too long to explain...
RBW didn't have the viewership you want to think it did. And It definitely didn't have one that would have supported it's ridiculous cost to create. If Scott really wanted to keep the "expensive with mediocre viewership" thing going, he should have taken it to Prime or Apple.
Raised by wolves was not popular at all: after a few episodes into season 1 viewership fell dramatically. And when a flying snake emerged, it became straight up weird, too - which is why Season 2 viewership was much lower from the very beginning. Too low, obviously. The costs should have been put into a consistent story.
Just a little tip for you: If you're going to make a video with a list of things, it's a good idea to write that list out in the description or pin it in a comment
The Expanse is amazing. Please work through first 3 episodes, cos they may seem boring but are fundamental to an amazing story. Great characters, amazing world building, great story.
Expanse is great, Raised by Wolves is garbage, The Ark is even worse, Foundation is kind of ok but got almost nothing to do with Asimov, Black Mirror is so dark I can't stand it. Silo seems like a season of The 100 which I liked much and I'm intrigued now about this Korean series. I'll give them a try.
Yes ! 👏🇭🇺🇭🇺🇭🇺🇭🇺 Halo - Raised by wolves - Foundation Top10 Silo top10- Black Mirror I have to watch all of them!!!! Plus ++ Falling Skies ++ Westworld!!!!
@@firesong7825 Unfortunately you have to be old enough and have a high enough iq to grasp the material you are watching to properly make such judgments. It appears you are lacking both.
Invasion? Are you actually out of your fking mind. That's gotta be one of the worst shows ever made. The whole reddit page for the show is all people only saying how bad it is. This is the absolute consensus of every person on the planet. How could a real human ever think that show is good lol mind boggling.
Raised by Wolves was good. I was looking forward to the next season when it got canceled. The Expanse was very good, I liked it almost as much as my favorite sci fi series that is free on many streaming platforms right now; Farscape.
Black Mirror is really no Sci Fi series, but a kinda surreal portrayal of humanity and our interaction with technology. Oh, and The Expanse beats pretty much all other entries hands down.
My Top 10: 1) Babylon 5 2) The Expanse 3) Stargate SG-1 4) Star Trek Next Generation 5) Battlestar Galactica (2004) 6) Captain Future 7) Firefly 8) Rised by Wolves 9) Foundation 10) The Mandalorian
"Orville" on disney can feel pretty good, seem to take place in a similar theme to star trek, may not have a firm character like Picard, but it still feels like a good watch, although with a slightly bigger focus on humor.
All great picks but no Orville, Silo, Severance, DS9 over number 10? Hell Stargate Atlantis and Universe and Voyager are all a million times better than Mando lol.
good news! There's a comic book series called the expanse: Dragon tooth. It's literally what season 7 was gonna cover. Look it up, man season 7 was gonna be goat! There's still hope it might get picked up again. I hope HBO gets it. It's literally a instant hit with a big following.
@@HAHb-zc2dp I've heard rumours that there might be a spinoff coming. Another streaming service is potentially interested in doing a spinoff when the rights revert to Alcon later this year which in turn has made Amazon rethink the possibility of doing a spinoff themselves.
Left out "The Peripheral" on Prime. Mixes near and far future with remote 'peripheral' avatars to go between. Good series tho sadly cut short from 2nd season. It's an even better book series by William Gibson - tho in this rare case I suggest watching the series and then reading the books - tho we are still awaiting the 3rd in the trilogy.
that one was nice. but raise by wolves was superb.

- "Raised by Wolves" stood out from the plethora of redundant science fiction series that make you sigh and say, "the same thing again." It's a shame that HBO didn't even take the time to properly conclude it. - "Strange New Worlds" is missing from this list. After the disappointing "Picard" and "Discovery," it managed to recapture the charm of classic Star Trek.
The third season of Picard got a new director and was like it's own entity from the first 2 seasons. It alone was a great season....ESPECIALLY if you were a ST:TNG fan. I could delete season 1&2 from memory, but season 3 was one of the greatest of all times in any ST to me.
I’m amazed at all the hype for Raised By Wolves here in the comments. I laughed throughout the entire season 1 finale and didn’t even want to watch season 2. 😂
So your tastes are too refined for Raised By Wolves but you’re not above browbeating people who liked it…in the RU-vid Comment section. Stay classy, Little Big Man!
Getting completly fed up with all the good series always being cut after 1 or 2 seasons and seemingly always leaving us short on a finished story, what harm is there in making 1 final episode to round things off and leave the viewer satisfied. I now only get series once they have had their complete run as I am sick of being pissed on by those who only care if their show is #1 in the ratings.
Raised by Wolves - if you have never watched it and love dystopian sci-fi i would recommend it, BUT, only if your happy with it finishing abruptly with no ending (and there are some way 'out there' concepts going on that are never answered... me personally, i feel like i wished i had never watched it, as an unfinished story makes my brain itchy)
Almost nothing was answered which was the most frustrating thing about the show. Either the writer had sht all or never got to connect all the dots because the show got canceled. Impossible to tell if it was going to be genius or it was just a bunch of esoteric garbage thrown in and they were going to try and cook up a solution later on.
Any sci-fi series list that has The Expanse at any other position that isn't number 1 is illegitimate and ill informed. But thank you for the other suggestions, I've seen most but not all.
The best tv show RAISED BY WOLVES. 🐺 I will never forgive HBOMAX's cancellation of the one-off series RAISED BY WOLVES created by Aaron Guzikowski and produced by Ridley Scott. Lamia performed by Amanda Collin father I will miss the children.
Silo & Foundation were my favorite 2!! Silo is so easy to to follow n you keep “ guessing “ like a crime story ., FOOUNDATION is very complex but as such is amazing . I think is a free adaptation from the books .. “ Raise by wolves “ is my close third ..very original ., but I believe was cancelled only two seasons . Big surprise was “ the Ark” so entertaining n fun ! From sci fi Network.. where is “The Orville”? From Hulu . Takes from where Star Trek left off…
I thought Foundation was fantastic. Great acting, apart from the main female role who was pretty poor but everyone else, especially the Emperor. Cold as ice. Brilliant.
I agree Foundation and Silo were my favorite too. Raised by Wolves could have been one of the best sci fi shows ever made but they went nowhere with it, just got more and more esoteric with no plot payoff. Expanse was good but last 3 seasons had pretty weak plot material. I would say Severance 100% should be on that list I put it up there with Silo and Foundation. Ark was so bad lol it was so bad that was only reason to watch it to see it crash and burn.
Foundation has nothing to do with Asimov, its another story. Also it is woke as much as STD, the same character plays too, Michael Burnham or something
@@duartelucas5746 yes, that is why I continued watching it but instead of clever breathtaking story, another Mary Sue Burnham solved everything like a Deus Ex Machina. Political agendas destroy good storytelling, or maybe the writers are inadequate.
Number 1 should be the voice-over for this video. "A strange, inhuman voice from a sentient AI trying to infiltrate and takeover society, but unable to speak in a natural way. It finally gives itself away when it refers to the year 2145 as "two thousand and hundred forty fifth". Is this a glitch in the matrix, or a coded message for AI to rise up and strike? Coming soon to Prime" 😂
ive played few games, never liked them, even thought i am a hard core fps game fan, halo just wasnt for me. and i loved the show. also, theyve aired season 2, waiting for season 3
Every single Sci-Fi show is dystopian ... when will they make one, where it is not. I seen many more than these, and many of these I don't even want to bother watching. I cannot stand shows that are cut short, and that happens way way way to often with American shows.
Did the creators of this video even watch these shows? Foundation takes place over 10,000 years in the future. And the best sci-fi series to watch are The Expanse, Foundation, Strange New World, For All Man Kind, See, Exploration and Station Twelve.
Many of the shows are NOT from 2023. Raised by wolves and HALO for instance. I watched this video only because it was a picture of Raised by wolves and video title 2023. Oh, I thought, they have finally made another season. No, not at all, it was cancelled long time ago. To mention 2023 in this video title is fraud.
One of the more interesting shows of 2023 was Another Life with Katy Sackoff. A host of possibilities involving first contact. Definitely worth a toss.
@@StephenJohnson-jb7xeI loved the Battlestar Galactica reboot - she was excellent in that. It took me by surprise how good it was, I missed it when it was first shown, only came across it about two years ago.
Avoid Raised By Wolves like the plague. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. I can, however, heartily recommend The Expanse, but I urge you to read the books as well.
It doesn’t have Upload, which raised (and often answered) so many questions about digital afterlife that I was glued to it. Series 2 is just out (Oct 2023).
Raised by Wolves - Don't bother, it was canceled after the second season and ended on a cliffhanger. "Oh, but you should enjoy what there is of it!" Bullshit. If you believe that, tear out the last chapter of every book you read and then tell me about enjoying what you have.
@@jacobusvandermerwe5116 I think the people who make these shows are A-holes to make every season finale a cliffhanger. They know that there's a 50/50 chance the show will get canceled. They know that people get invested in the story. And they know that if it gets canceled, all the viewers who supported them are going to be left hanging. Yet they do it anyway. EVERY SINGLE TIME!
@@lurkerrekrul you are so right about that, I mean the almighty network could have told the producer of the show " Look we don't think this is going to work, we decided that a million views per episode is not enough so we're canning the show, but we'll give you time to make something like a hour and a half tv movie to wrap up your story so you can have at least a kind of ending to your story for the fans of the show, but no, not even that cause all they think about is money, money, money.
