I think ‘Scooby Doo meets the Boo Brothers’ is vastly underrated. It may not have the best twists and turns but its so cartoony and wacky at times, theres so many characters that make it so crazy and fun to watch.

Heavily agree with you, Sherrif Buzby is a nice little addition love the southern twang comedy he brings. Even the caretaker, can’t remember his name but the shorter guy who kinda looks like Elton John is a crazy character.
@hansbmd20

I agree! I loved that movie as a kid and still do. There are so many things going on in that movie that it easily could've gotten oversaturated, but it never feels like that. You've got a haunted plantation mansion with a live wild bear living on the premises as if that weren't dangerous enough, but you've also got a spooky caretaker, a skeleton man, the Ghost of Colonel Beauregard, an escaped circus ape, a wacky girl who wants to kiss Shaggy constantly, her trigger-happy brother who has a feud with Shaggy's deceased uncle, a sheriff who serves as comic relief, and three zany ghost brothers brought in to catch the rest of the ghosts. In any given moment, Scooby and Shaggy could run into any number of characters and you never know which one will cause a sticky situation that our heroes have to get out of. Watching Shaggy interact with so many characters was what it kept fresh instead of just running from the same villain for an hour. Meanwhile, Scrappy is reading the clues and figuring out where to find the treasure, and being the best iteration of that character we ever got. And don't get me wrong, Scrappy is not my favorite character in the franchise by a long shot, but he was better in the shows and movies in the 80s than in his first outings, mostly because Don Messick took over voicing him and did a much better job than the original guy (his original voice was just plain irritating). Scrappy actually shows how clever he is in that movie and would potentially make a good dog for Velma if that side of him were allowed to show, but you never get to see that cleverness again after that. And the gang loses technically, the villain makes it to the treasure first, and there's a sense of real danger (not ghost danger) when Shag and Scoob make it back to the house. On top of all that, the Boo Brothers themselves make great standout characters, one of whom is voiced by one of the greats in voice acting (Rob Paulsen). And the movie itself has an opening song that sets the stage for how spooky it is, because once you look past the wacky bits, it has a really spooky vibe (it had the potential to be nightmare-inducing, but they went with the wackiness instead, which worked perfectly). Yeah, it's such an underrated movie.

Couldn’t agree more. The boo brothers as well as The Reluctant Werewolf are still my absolute favorites. Both have scrappy in them which adds to it as well as a large host of wacky and hilarious characters. Not to mention the wacky races aspect of The Reluctant Werewolf never disappoints

The Hex Girls made a welcome return in the Legend of the Vampire and have since become fan-favorite side characters. The titular vampire is a rather dark and different take on the monster than expected for a Scooby-Doo project. Scooby-Doo and the Legend of the Vampire would be the blueprint for a massive lineup of movies to take inspiration from.

I'm 32 years old and I still love Scooby Doo, especially the older movies and the ones from the 90's. My Top 10: 1) Witch's Ghost (will always be the all time best, but that's mostly due to Tim Curry and the Hex Girls songs.) 2) Ghoul School (was my favorite until Witch's Ghost came along. I never missed it when Cartoon Network aired it. I was ecstatic to see it included here.) 3) Cyber Chase 4) Alien Invaders 5) Scooby Doo Meets the Boo Brothers (that one at least needs to be an honorable mention. Scrappy's at his best.) 6) Zombie Island (I know it technically is the best one ever made, but that movie scared the s*** out of me the first time I watched it and I've never been able to watch it again, even to this day.) 7) Loch Ness Monster 8) Reluctant Werewolf 9) Where's My Mummy? 10) Scoob (the new one wasn't bad and honestly, it was worth watching the movie to hear them play stock footage of Don Messick's Muttley laugh). And even though they don't count since they're not feature length movies, I'd include the entire '70 series of "The New Scooby Doo Movies" which included crossovers with other cartoon characters and with celebrities. That's my favorite series of the entire franchise.

Scooby Doo! Camp Scare (2010) is also a VERY well done direct-to-video movie. It has a good mystery, lots of fun characters, and very, very good animation. Compared to most of the other direct-to-video movies the animation is VERY lush and well done. Great shading, very good backgrounds, and the characters are well-drawn and look better than they ever have before. In Zombie Island and Witch's Ghost, the characters have a very "anime" look to them. This prevailed for a long time, but Camp Scare has none of that, and is beautiful looking. The mystery makes sense and provides some nice, kid-scary moments. Compared to many of the direct-to-video movies, this one has a true, feature-length story, instead of lots of silly, running around fill sessions. There are good songs, great voice acting, and very detailed animation. For example, even the sandwiches that Shaggy and Scooby eat, look like real sandwiches and you can identify every part of the sandwich (meat, cheese, lettuce, etc). There are kids that go along for the mystery adventure, and our gang act as mentors, teaching the kids how to do camp activities and to believe in themselves. Because of this, the kid characters grow and develop believably, allowing our gang to be more adult for the first time. Plus, Velma is pretty in this one, and looks good in a swimsuit, and is pursued by one of the characters, instead of Daphne getting all the attention as usual. It's nice to see Velma looking pretty and having fun doing camp activities, while maintaining her charm, intelligence and commitment to solving the mystery as well as being a very good mentor to an emo girl who usually isolates and avoids social activities. Velma helps her come out of her shell and she begins to enjoy camping. Fred also acts as a mentor to another kid, allowing Fred to be more than just a goof that traps things as he usually does. It's just a very well-done entry in the pantheon of direct-to-video Scooby Doo films. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

For "Zombie Island", Adrienne Barbeau and Tara Strong tried to use genuine Cajun accents for their characters, but they couldn't quite pull it off, Barbeau settling on a non-specific French-inspired accent and Strong using a more generic Southern accent. Castmate Jim Cummings who played Jacques, actually grew up in New Orleans and had no trouble sounding like a local.
@thewolf6449

Even if they messed the accents up, i feel it lent perfectly to the characters in the end, it made each voice distinct and memorable, especially Jacques... I still remember when he went feline. It was the single biggest wtf for me as a kid

Well considering they were one of the first settlers that came from other countries to North America, it's understandable for Simone and Lena to have accents more closer to their European backgrounds, they wouldn't have Cajun accents for that reason.

My dad, a lifelong Scooby fan, thought "Zombie" would be just the same sort of cheesy fun Ghoul School was, along with the other offerings from the eighties, and was a bit surprised at how intense Zombie Island could get, even to the point where he thought it would give us kids (who were ten and six at the time) actual nightmares.

The Hex Girls made their debut in Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost and became fan favorites, especially for goth kids who grew up with them. Gothic is the best way to describe Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost, continuing from Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island to provide the gang with real supernatural threats. Witchcraft and ghosts are treated rather seriously in Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost, providing plenty of horror elements, including top-tier villains for the franchise. It never goes too far with its concepts, but it would not be surprising if some kids were genuinely scared by what was presented.
