Kirkcaldy is the town that floored the world. Famous for its linoleum factories. Anstruther is another recommended place, famous for its fish n chips.

Plus, my American friends, you can get MUCH cheaper accomodation, in Fife, with easy and fairly cheap transport links into Edinburgh. Fife is the most under-rated place in Scotland. If you are on a budget, i would recommend it for tourists. July to August, best chance of going, with no rain, otherwise take a raincoat and fleece.
