Hi, I’m new to your channel and I am a whiskey drinker…. I am curious and want to know your opinion on Brothers Bond they have a few whiskey’s and was wondering if you can make a video and try one or two? 🤞 Love your videos and opinions on whiskey, hope to see you try Brothers Bond on your next video ❤
I also know how you aren’t a fan of celebrity whiskey or alcohol in general and Brothers Bond was created by actors Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley who starred in Vampire Diaries
This guy is just great on camera - im a tech guy who watches world news and tech news and somehow stumbled on this channel and binged almost all of his videos. Needless to say, went out on Tuesday and bought a bottle of Old Forester 86 and a glencairn glass lmao gonna try it out today after work. If it tastes horrible then ill just pivot and use the bottle for my fav drink of all time - old fashioned. Thanks Brewzle for getting me into this rabbit hole
Prepare you wallet for much abuse going forward. I started out in this hobby around the beginning of 2023... I now have like 200-250 bottles. Luckily they mostly fit onto two warehouse style shelves in my basement... Well they did. Fridge started leaking water thru the floor so right now they live on the floor, on a few tables, in my office (looks great when on video calls with my CFO and COO), and the kitchen table. When you have to move 200+ bottles you start questioning your life decisions.
@@kaedenwebb7623I’m at about 100-120 bottles but I’d recommend: 1792 Small Batch, Old Forrester 1910, Evan Williams Bottled in Bond and Bardstown Origin Series Bourbon (white label)
So I have no clue how you ended up in my suggested, but I quit drinking over 10 years ago and miss talking to my friends about different liquors. Your passion helps me have that without having the drink.
Eagle Rare is always so marked up in my area ($80-$90) and it's just hard to justify that knowing the MSRP. However occasionally Buffalo Trace will be at Sam's Club for $23! For me that takes the cake when it's that cheap. WT101 would get my 2nd, and Russell Reserve 3rd.
Wild Turkey 101 is my favorite value daily drinker. I also love Rare Breed, but it's around $60 in my area. Buffalo Trace products are almost impossible to find in my area, so I would substitute Bowman Brothers' small batch for Buffalo Trace. I've never had the black cap Early Times BIB, but I think the blue cap Early Times is fantastic, especially for the price. Great review!
Eagle Rare runs around $60+ in my section of Massachusetts. Even Williams bottled in bond is my go to budget whiskey but you can't go wrong with Wild Turkey 101.
Hell, bang for the buck JD barrel proof for $67 up here in Upstate NY is the best bargain in high proof juice. Then again, OGD114 is also an absolute bargain for what it is, especially for under $30.
ER is hard to find but I stalk Walmart online for it, and have been able to snag some at $29ea here in FL.... and for that it’s a high value. BT is $23.98 at Walmart and it’s a great daily for that price.
I don't think eagle rare belongs on a budget list. You can't find it and it's $100+ if you're lucky enough to come across one, at least in my area. Four Roses single barrel would be my #1 for price/quality but I love everything they make. Hard to compete with that wild turkey 101 at $25 though!
Can agree on most, even if your definition of value differs from mine. Unfortunately up here in Vermont, the Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare are almost impossible to find. Also Early Times BIB is nowhere to be found. I'm still looking to find a bottle to try. A couple of bottles I would add are the Old Granddad BIB and 114. They are constants as they are great for Manhattans and Old Fashions at a solid price point. In addition, surprised to see no love for Elijah Craig. Easy to find and a very solid bourbon for $25-30.
Russell's 10 is one of my favorites. I can get it consistently around $35. I guess I am lucky. I also would have added Knob Creek 9 to the list. A 9 year old for around $30 is hard to beat.
100% agree on KC9. A Good KC9 Store pick can be had for $50 and if you get something from floor 6+ you usually have a crazy flavorful explosion. Of course Beam products are ALL super nutty but I enjoy that profile.
Its crazy, you guys keep talking about how hard it is to find Eagle rare or Buffalo Trace in the US. And I'm sitting here in Germany and I can get both of them for MSRP price on Amazon any day I want...
I remember regularly buying Eagle Rare at around $30 pre-COVID before the mark-ups started. Its as good as bottles that are twice that much (IMO) but the shops asking anywhere near $100/bottle are nuts.
It's funny a $60 bottle is on a "value" bourbon. That's no value !!! That's expensive. You're comparing Toyota Corolla with Lexus.... Bad video. Not realistic. Of course Eagle Rare, 1920 and Russell's 10 taste better - they are double and triple the price of true value bourbons.....sure hope they are more complex and tasty Compare equal priced products when making a "value" video !!!
I've got an odd request...my dad has been a lifelong fan of Lord Calverts and had a pretty good stock that finally ran out... unfortunately I've found out that it is discontinued... does anybody have a way to ship in Illinois or a worthy replacement?
Been watching for a month. Just starting out. Today bought the Welller Special Reserve. It was great and being equipped with the knowledge to buy it I learned from you. Thanks! Keep it up.
OF 100 is garbage. OF 1910 and 1920 are fantastic and should not even be considered apart of the same distillery. Earlytimes is overrated. Russell 10 is definitely a respectable bourbon.
Im not sure you can do a "value" video and have bourbons over 50. I think value i think 45 and below. I don't enjoy really anything old forester. Something about it. Just not enjoyable for me. Everything else on the list is solid.
In the UK lots of the Brands are sold at lower proof. Buffalo Trace is everywhere at around 26 USD but is 80 Proof . We get an Old Forester at 86 Proof for 28 USD. WT101 has to be 101 proof and can be found for around 32 USD. Eagle Rare at 90 proof is getting easier to find for around 42 USD and I collect mine today :). Love the WT101 especially in a cocktail as the proof stands up well and the slight spice shines thorough any sweetness in say and Old Fashioned.
The Rare Breed is my first introduction to the higher proofs. Sipping some next to a Michters Kentucky Straight and that burn from the proof of the Turkey adds another element to the mouth feel and makes the flavors seem a bit more subtle. Going back for another bottle before work tomorrow. 😂
I got a bottle of 101 and just do not like it. I am surprised Old Grand Dad 114 didn't make the list. I do agree both BT and Early Times definitely should make the list though. Great video.
I am surprised Elijah Craig is not on the list. Also, I sure miss the days when Eagle Rare was $20. Those were the days. Over twice the price now and still considered a good deal.
Eagle Rare is $70+ if it's readily available on the shelf in the majority of non-ABC states. You have to work hard and make your own luck to get it at a price that I would pay. BT is $26 grocery store bourbon here.
Wild turkey 101 is so good for the price, I’d give it number one. That said I didn’t really enjoy my first bottle of eagle rare. But the second bottle is actually great!
I'd add Larceny Small Batch and Redwood Empire Pipe Dream to this list. I'm getting a bottle of Benchmark Full Proof in on Friday. I ordered it online for a Black Friday free shipping deal. If I like it, I'll pick up a few on my Texas road trip next month. 🥃🥃
Rare Breed and Wild Turkey 101 are a couple of my top values. Neither love nor money will get you a bottle of Eagle Rare around these parts. Buffalo Trace has now slipped into that same situation. OF 1920 (or 1910) is the bottle I’ll pick up on my next opportunity. Great video!
That's funny, I almost got a bottle of Rare Breed tonight, but I hadn't heard anything about it. Probably will check it out next time. Ended up with OF 1920.
If there's one bottle that I really think is missing from the list, it's OGD 114. Love that bottle. Maybe the very best value, IMO. Usually $21-$23 around here. Surprised to see Evan Williams BiB so high. It's good, but not overly impressive even though it's cheap. A bit ago I blinded OGD 114 ($23), Early Times ($21/L), Very Old Barton 100pf ($16.50) and Evan Williams BiB ($19) and they went in that order for me. Can't disagree with WT101 at the top of the list, though. Also think Benchmark Top Floor would give many of these a run for their money at just $15.50.
Only bottle on this list I haven't had is Eagle Rare. I've never even seen one "out in the wild". Hoping I'll stumble across one some day. They are about impossible to find in Minnesota. Overall, though, good list. Since I can't get Eagle Rare or Early Times, I'd personally replace those with Knob Creek 9yr and Maker's 46.
Honestly, I think the biggest difference between the black top ET and the new one is simply whoever is blending it. Same juice but blending is an artform and no two blenders are going to do it the same.
What I saw for the Early Times, the new metal top one has a different blending and bottling factory and most prefer the previous black plastic top version. I would rather pay $23 for the 100 proof Old Grand-Dad, but it might just be the lack of a quiver in my liver, my unique genetics. For me more the after effects than taste.
At MSRP I can definitely agree on the Eagle Rare. For a store pick single barrel I'd be willing to pay a little bit more though. I'm still searching for Early Times BIB and literally any Old Forester (the only one available that I can find is the 86 proof?).
Lucked out and found a solo Eagle Rare at my local Meijer for $31 dollars. It’s fantastic at that price. Only ever seen it at other liquor stores for $99 which is absolutely outrageous.
Solid list. I like Old Forester products - the 100 is my more common bottle but for special occasions Ill enjoy their 1897 and the 1910. My bottles typically last a few years especially anything over 50 dollars so I typically stick to Old Forester, Wild Turkey 101 and what not. On a side note, for cocktails you cant beat Old Grandad Bonded .... that holds up to any thing.
Agree with the gentleman that said KC9 should be on the list - otherwise a very good list. In fact, the Jim Beam distillery is not represented at all. 😮 KC9 absolutely should be on a list about the best value bourbons!
Totally agree love Eagle Rare, Here in the UK this is easily available most stores currently priced at $38 at current exchange rate Keep up the great work
I just found your channel and I'm loving it......I really like your value bourbon list, what I find seriously missing is the Elijah Craig small batch....around 36 bucks per bottle and probably myv#1 bourbon budget banger.. ..I also go for the wild turkey 101, the Evan Williams bnb, etc.....
I wish I could get Eagle Rare for under $50. It typically runs around $75 in Michigan, I can buy Buffalo Trace all day for $27. It’s kind of odd. I would throw the Old Grand Dad 114 on that list. That’s a really good bargain bottle!
My experience is the opposite. Eagle Rare seems to be in every store around here (in Georgia) for around $50, but the only place I know of that ever has Buffalo Trace sells it for $52.
Dude, last night I bought a bottle of Fighting Cock on a tip from a subscriber. 103 proof, 6 year age, Heaven Hill product. Paid $16 for it. It's actually pretty dang good! Not overly complex, but sweet enough and enjoyable as a cheap sipper. Definitely adding it to my cheapo rotation!🥃👍
Man. Eagle Rare and so many other now allocated bottles used to be everywhere. When I started collecting in 2012/2013 or so no one cared about Elmer T. Lee, Eagle Rare, etc. and Stagg Jr. was everywhere too.
I spent about 20 years drinking plain Ol Jim and Sprite and have only recently tried to expand and get a little more refined. I picked up a bottle of BT for about 42 with Tax in Cartersville Ga just the other day. Never had it, greatly enjoyed my first pour, looking forward to taking my time with it this weekend. Bought my first bottle of Turkey 101 while at the in laws in Syracuse recently and I didn’t love the first pour. Splashed some cream soda in and polished it off. The next day, it had snowed and I wasn’t leaving the hotel and decided a second glass was worth a try and I don’t know if the cork just needed to be pulled twice or what. I really enjoyed it and finished off a good part of the bottle before flying out. They are getting 31$ a bottle up there, but it’s also basically Canada so whatever.
Since Brown Foreman just bought The Early times but being a bottle and bond obviously 4 years and it's only been a couple wouldn't the juice still be the same for the next couple years
Everyone has their own random and mostly idiotic sounding theory as to how they're supposedly different. But I have yet to see anyone blind say, 6-8 samples and pick the old ones and the new ones consistent. It takes more than one to one.
Great channel! I recently found (2) bottles of Blanton’s single barrel at a hole in the wall Liquor store in Santa Monica, CA and was able to get them for a total of $240. I’m very happy.
I was traveling a few months ago and walked into a liquor store that was selling 1792 375s for $12. Since I was on the road, the small size was a good idea and I'd never tried it before. I was honestly very impressed and it's now a regular on my shelf.
Yes Eagle Rare is yummy. Unfortunately, that was my first foray into my recent bourbon drinking Now I’m spoiled. Blame my son. 🥂 But that Larceny at $21-$26 is a good buy also
Brewzle, referring to your comment half way through. I am here to start a selection. I’m not sure if I like bourbon, but I love your videos. A video on what a newbie should start with would be cool. Similar to this one.
Start with something mid-shelf or even go to a liquor store that does store picks. Ask if they have a bottle that they suggest out of the store picks and then ask if you can taste it before you buy. Usually they would have a bottle of their store picks open for customers to try. Now it's all up to personal preference if you like lower proof or higher proof stuff. I personally don't care for higher proof stuff so I stick to the 90-100 proof range. It's all about trial and error to find what your taste is. Another good suggestion is to go to a bar, find one with a decent bourbon selection and ask for a tumbler glass and a shot of each bourbon you want to try. You're going to want to swirl it in the glass first then smell it, you don't only want to enjoy the taste but the smell as well. Then move on to tasting it, we don't knock it back like a shot but we take our sip swirl then swallow that. See what you notice in the taste, heck see if you get the same notes from the smell of it as the taste or maybe what differences you're noticing. Also have a a glass of water to cleanse your palate between tastings. Big factor as well maybe seeing what is readily available in local stores and then going to a tasting or bar. I will also say don't start on hard to find bottles or allocated stuff and or anything that'll break the bank. This is a hobby so it's meant to be enjoyable and enjoyed fully. Most of the people I talk to about bourbon I've met at a tasting or an allocated bottle drop day. For me I started with knob creek 9 year and enjoy that still along with buffalo trace, eagle rare(when I can get it for $50) and my absolute favorite is Blanton's but that is a special occasion night kind of pour
I love Eagle Rare 10 yr. especially when I found three at $32 allocated at local Walmart. And I've paid for two more at $44 and one I'm too embarrassed to say when I first started this journey. Lesson learned and will never buying squat from them again.
I always have Eagle Rare on-hand (an open and backup bottle). With that said, I rarely reach for it. I'm a proof hound, so my palate doesn't start getting happy until 110+
I got a bottle of that EW BiB for a batch of Alton Brown's aged eggnog. I agree with the assessment, it was fantastic for ~$20, not as nice as when I could find eagle rare for $20 15 years ago, but if I'm going for a bottle of bourbon and I've got two 10 dollar bills in my pocket, I'll lean towards that Evan Williams. If I've got three, I might be looking somewhere else, or I'll just save the extra money for a nicer bottle later.
Watching your videos from Wales, UK and always blows my mind hearing and seeing how difficult it is to get Buffalo a trace products. I am a big fan of them and need to walk not even 10mins to my local convenience store to buy Eagle Rare, Buffalo Trace and sometimes Blanton’s all at retail price (BT - £21, Eagle Rare - £32 & Blanton’s - £80) I’ve never not been able to buy a bottle of any of them. Keep up the good work! Love the videos
Here in the US, marketing strategy can play heavily into the way brands like BT, ER, EHT, etc, are distributed. For example, in one region, BT might be plentiful while ER is hardly anywhere to be found. Travel a few states away, and it could very well be the exact opposite scenario. This creates the perception that these bottles are rare and in short supply, and that's how they get hyped up and sought after. Of course, this is just my theory, based upon observations from my travels. Cheers!🥃
You are indeed fortunate. Eagle Rare and Blanton's and the Wellers and Stagg Jr etc are all pretty much unobtainable these days at Ontario's provincial liquor stores. Too much competition from US consumers(?)
$45 is an expensive bottle - you need to come do a Bourbon Hunt in Australia! $55 is cheap … $80 is average and many your list on here are $100+ .. IF you can even find them 😂
In my list Evan Williams BiB would NOT make the list, and Buffalo Trace would be at the way end of the list, or just missing it. OF1920, OF110, and Rus10 are all tops on my list, with Cooper's Craft being the best deal towards the bottom of the list. Good choices all around though... thanks!
In my neck of the woods (suburban towns southwest of Atlanta), Buffalo Trace is almost as hard to find as Eagle Rare and costs almost as much (a little over $40 for BT, right at $50 for ER). And it's not remotely as good IMO. The 1920 Old Forester is my fave of this lineup, Eagle Rare a close 2nd, and Four Roses Small Batch not too far behind in 3rd. A couple of other fantastic value picks are Woodford Reserve Double Oaked and George Dickell Bottled in Bond (recent releases are 11 and 13 years old), both about $50 for 750ml. For the money, it is hard to beat Wild Turkey 101: so good for how cheap it is. But I prefer to shop the $40-60 tier since there's a much wider selection of tasty stuff in that range.
Favorites...Wild Turkey Rare Breed, OF 1920, Eagle Rare, ET BinB (extreme value)...the rest....meh. 10 year Russell to me might be the most overrated. Russell Reserve Single Barrel so much better, and expensive though.
