the waiting 20-30mins after eating before you go swim is a generalization. if you had a big meal, it's not wise to go swimming immediately afterwards, since your stomach hasn't broken-down most of the food yet. It's not just about the water-pressure, but it's also because swimming engages all the major muscle-groups including the abdomen (stomach area). and any excessive pressure on the abdomen while having a full-stomach will lead to nausea and vomiting (it's a common reaction to sudden pressure on the abdomen). how full your stomach is really depends on how much food you ate. You do not want to go in a pool when you just stuffed yourself to the point of unbuckling your belt for comfort. So waiting 20-30mins, you give your stomach ample time to break-down the majority of the food you just ate to avoid something like feeling bloated or getting acid-reflux.
It isnt illegal to have the dome light on while driving. however it is dangerous and can cause accidents. if your curious turn it on while driving at night. the light makes all your windows reflect the light. so it is very hard to see out the windows including the main drivers window.
Typically we do get sleepy after a meal - but that's because your blood supply is going to your digestive organs and help you digest your food. If you have a heavier meal, your digestive organs will need blood for a longer period of time - which makes meals like Thanksgiving or Christmas Dinner make you much more sleepy.
Myhtbusters tested it. If i remember right, the amount of tryptophan in a turkey isn't enough to put you to sleep. It's the sheer amount of food consumed at a typical thanksgiving meal.
Sitting too close to the TV,.. meanwhile sitting too close to your office computer doesn't? Especially if you have light mode on and you're using MS Word? ⬜️
Actually, this kinda happened to someone. I remember seeing a news story years ago where someone swallowed a seed which instead went into his lung and started growing. Creepy.
Daddy long legs are the most poisonous spiders in the world, their fangs just arent sharp enough to pierce skin....Ear wigs crawl in your ear and lay eggs...Showering during a storm you will get struck by lightning....Those are a few lol.
I always assumed driving with the interior light on made it seem like you were paying attention to something else rather than the road so the police would still pull you over if they wanted.
You should do an international version of this. I’ve heard some pretty funny ones, like that Korean mothers insist that if you sleep with a fan on you will die.😂
I drove a school bus while working my way through graduate school. Sometimes the kids asked me to turn on the dome lights during the early morning bus run before the sun was up. When I tried, I realized WHY my parents lied to me about it: it was because unequal light made my windows act more like mirrors, preventing me from seeing outside - where there could be traffic, pedestrians, etc. At that point, I simply told my passengers the truth: it's a safety issue - not a legal issue. Interior lights make the inside of your windows act like mirrors, preventing a better view of oncoming and ongoing traffic (and other hazards) during the dark hours.
Hope for an eventual part 2 on where you do the turkey one word it makes you sleepy a whole ton, making faces and they will freeze that way, just by stepping out into the rain you'll get shot by lightning instantly, and probably a bunch of others
The waiting 30min before going into the pool depends of much did you eat...the preassure from swiming will affect the muscles of the abdomen area and can make you feel sick if you have a full stomach
I think the TV one was a mistake on what causes what. Kids would sit too close to the TV and then later it's found out they need glasses. Everyone assumed sitting too close to the TV caused it and didn't consider that the kid's sitting close to the TV because they can't see it that well from the couch. Sitting close to the TV doesn't cause bad eyesight, bad eyesight causes sitting close to the TV.
My sister told me you can get worms from eating cold bologna. Not is not true but not only did I think it was, I thought she meant earthworms not parasite worms. even if it was it would be
When I was a little girl, my dad used to tell me to wait a while before going back in the pool after I would finish eating my meals. But he never told me to wait 30 minutes. If anything, he used to tell me to only wait five minutes before going back in the pool. so after eating a hotdog, or pizza, my dad always said: wait for five minutes before going back in the pool.
Every time an adult told me to turn off the lights in the car because it was illegal, I complied but always thought to myself “Then why the heck does every car I’ve ever seen have them?!”
My hair is long and in a ponytail. I wet it every morning before i tie it back and go outside. I have had it freeze solid at -25C! Never got sick though
modern tv's definitely emit little-to-no radiation, but older TV's, CRT's in particular, DID emit a lot more radiation and probably could cause damage over a long term.
I accidentally debunked the chewing gum myth when I was a kid. I had fallen asleep with gum in my mouth and it made it's way under my tongue and stayed there all night. I woke up with the gum had broken up into tiny little balls from my saliva. So to think my saliva was able to break it up that easily then stomach acids must do a way better job
I have tell you are wrong on one of these. Back in the day sitting to close to the TV was bad for you for years, but with advanced technology it isn't today. When television first came out, when it was black and white it did had some radiation coming from it, and when it went to color still some came out of it. But later they changed it, and some think it's bad for you.
In my opinion, if you eat something in jump in a pool 30 minutes later, I think that’s true because I’m burnt one time I eat something in and I threw up after so all those people could be lying in my opinion
I remember one night I was chewing a piece of gum and accidentally swallowed it and then freaked out for a bit until I realized it was all just a urban legend
I remember the first time I accidentally swallowed him 😂 I was probably 5-6 years old. My mom had told me that gum was just for chewing but it wasn’t food that you should swallow. So when I accidentally swallowed gum for the first time (I have swallowed gum probably 7-8 times in my life because I love gum and am constantly chewing it so I’ve had plenty of opportunities to swallow it in my life) I started crying because I thought I was in trouble 😂 My mom assured me I was not in trouble
Sounds like many of these myths were from parents overreacting, or more importantly, wanting their kids to stop doing something that annoyed them but were too lazy to explain so they just said it was harmful or against the law.
I was told I would never be successful without a college degree. I have a degree and there are people who barely graduated from high school who make a lot more money than I do.
I have another childhood myth involving gum. I don't know if its a Latin thing, but my mom told me that chewing gum at night is like chewing dead people's bones! Now I know the truth! Adults lied to us! 😮 so maybe there are aliens?
Sitting to close to the TV is harmful to children, although a different reason as raised in the video. It is not the radiation or light. Children needs to train the eye-muscles to be capable to see things further away. Like reading to much books as child can cause nearsightness, the short distance to TV, monitor, tablet or phone has the same effect when the eyes ain't trained enough. It are not only the parents raising the point, also ophthalmologists says the same as in to often close-by views.
One time when I was in my late 20s I ate something jumped in back in the back in the pool and then I threw up one time so jumping in the pool 30 minutes later after eating possibly could be true in my opinion
#3 That's BS! Sugar does in fact cause hyperactive behavior, regardless of age. Case in point, if you have 4 toddler nephews, don't let them all eat chocolates together; it's mayhem!!!
I had the worst Head Cold in my life but had a Skiing Trip bought and paid for , so I dragged myself out of bed and went Skiing . The freezing Cold Weather cured my Cold completely within a single Day . A few Brandys didn't hurt either . Interior light can be dangerous at night because it reflects on the rear view mirror and the Windshield making it harder to see , it may be legal but it's stupid. My Mom's favorite , Keep poking your tongue out and a Blackbird will bite it off .Yes Mother Dear . Watch too much Television and you'll get square Eyes ! Mothers are hilarious .
