For sure, Wellington is a lot more compact and has a much larger and more dense/bustling CBD, and many things such as that that help Wellington give off the feeling of a city much bigger then its population would say, Christchurch however is a much larger (in terms of area) and more spread out city overall it has just lost a lot since the earthquakes.
I thought Christchurch was the 2nd Biggest City in the country, sure some folks did leave following the earthquake, but I thought the city's population had recovered after the disaster. Boy, how wrong I was.
Haha, Christchurch is much larger then Wellington if you only include the “city” population, however if you include the metro population (what I did for this video), Wellington gains, Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt and porirua which are all huge sub centres , when Christchurch only gains about Kaiapoi and Lytellton, so wellingtons population is higher in that aspect, Christchurch was ahead in all areas before the quakes though .
I live in Christchurch myself, it depends whether you are going just off “City” population or the City’s Metro area, going just off the “City” population, things like Lytellton are excluded from Christchurch when really they are connected to the city, and then things like Lower Hutt, Porirua and Upper Hutt are excluded from Wellington, so just off city population yes Christchurch is larger as it losses a lot less, but going off the city’s overall greater area Wellington is the more populated city (Christchurch does still cover more area) before the quakes Christchurch did best Wellington even in this metric though.
@@coolbeanz5906 Im really not sure, some big plans are coming for the city as of current so It could definitley in future, Wellington in 17,000 ahead of it in Metro population currently and growing at almost the exact same rate.
