Nah. That was her character. And even though we all knew it, it wasn't really in his character to her. I expected him to kill his sisters before he would kill her?
Not the biggest twist, but one of my favorite moments was Dany buying the Unsullied, revealing she knew Valyrian, and turning the tables on the masters.
The two best moments after red wedding...are not in the list...what you said is the first one...the second one is arya killing walder frey...also jon return to life is more unexpected than jon being killed.
To my mind that was the single most horrific scene in the entire series. There was something sadistic about showing it. I think the showrunners have a sadistic streak. And Melisandre never got what she deserved for that - and for all her other auto-da-fees. Really, she ought to have died by fire. It would have only been right. But, of course, Westeros is a world without justice.
My brother watched GoT for the first time, and i was watching some episodes with him.. when Stannis came to get her, when she said she would do anything for him, i already started to cry🥺 i had to leave the room
Just imagine how unbelievably shocking it would’ve been if Dany had stabbed Jon because he’d always be a threat to her. That would’ve been the twist of twists
That would actually be a twist, because everyone and their mums knew Dany would die from Jon. We even knew the way. And it was still lacking reasoning :P
Yeah they told us that Jon/Aegon has the right to be the king but he rejects to be King of the North and accepted Daenerys as his Queen still not wanting to be the King of the Seven Kingdoms, so as I saw him just riding his horse north beyond the wall I asked myself, so what was the point then?
Oliver F. Shit in real life doesn’t work out either, they chose to not base royalty on bloodlines because sons and daughters of kings are terrible, like Joffrey and dany. Jon’s character has always been about honor and doing your duty no matter the cost. He took it upon himself to kill dany because he was the only one who would that could get close enough to her. The moment he shoves the knife in her heart, is the moment he seals his fate.. he knew it and he did it anyway because he knew what was right. He stayed true to the character that we have known since season 1. That’s why I preferred his ending, him being the heir led to all of Dany’s betrayals and her paranoia. Him telling her was what his character symbolizes he’s honest. He knew he couldn’t have kept that from her... even though she wanted him too.
@@hardcoreLazors They did a good job as long as they had source material... as soon as they were the ones that had to come up with new stuff, was the moment it all was ruined.
Oberyn’s death was not only a huge plot twist in the books - it opened a whole storyline up in Dorne which is ignored by the show. Dorne was done so dirty.
Yeah, nearly the whole last book was left out of the show … I really wan‘t to read how it goes on with the other Targaryen, the companions of the young dornish prince who died from the dragons and Tyrion and the little woman…
@@Nerdygirl42 Quentyn would have died with or without the dragon. He had the pale horse stomach disease that was ripping through Meereen. Viserion and Rhaegal probably did him a favor. 😅
Hordor was just heartbreaking to watch,my wife had tears in her eyes when it all unraveled,we just sat in silence at seeing what just happened.Truly amazingly written.🙁
I got myself lost in trying to explain the past/present link to my lady. I mean Bran was connected to Wylis in the present in viewing his memories in the past, then through them became connected to the Wylis of the past, and because of the intensity of what was occurring in the present it bled into the past Wylis making him permanently as he is in the present....it's confusing to explain. It made me think of the mouse and John Coffey in The Green Mile where some of John's magic transferred into Mr. Jangles making the mouse live so long.
The red wedding was still a bigger twist. We all knew S8 would suck, but who in his right mind would think the Freys could achieve something like That?!
Burning Princess Shireen, alive, totally f'd me up! I cried, got sick, had nightmares, you name it! Hearing that sweet girl scream & beg her parents, for help, as she burned to death really, really, messed me up for a long, long, time!
I disagree. At the very least, it keeps Ned Stark's reputation and honor intact. He never screwed around on Catelyn and sired no bastards. Not to mention keeping audiences wondering "What now?" - until the final season ruined everything.
Really? In a show full of twists you never guessed you were rooting for the bad guy? She was the mad kings daughter. I hate to make political statements in non political forums but I bet Trump supporters think they are rooting for the good guy too because the just can't or wont see the truth - power breeds tyrants. That is why Bran The Broken who knows history and can't have kids is the best choice for a better world to begin. Watch it again in a few years and you may see this.
@@1ManNamedDan Lol nice assumption, I actually like Dany going mad queen I'm not talking about things I didn't like I'm specifically talking about the incoherent writing. The writing that made her forget about eurons fleet that she had been talking about for an entire season before, the writing that had bronn somehow sneak into winterfell with a large crossbow and magically find tyrion and jaimie alone in a random room with no explanation. The writing that gave characters invincible plot armour in the battle of winterfell. I'm not talking about decisions in the show that are subjectively not what some people wanted like Dany going mad I'm talking about bad writing that literally doesn't make sense. Btw I bet you don't hate to make things political there was literally zero reasons to bring in any example from current political situations into your argument yet you did so anyway. Remove trump from your statement and your point is exactly the same so you injected politics for the sake of it
I injected politics as a point of historical reference (the show we are referencing is a political semi psuedo-historical drama). I agree that Bronn slipping into Winterfell was a bit of a stretch but being as such a self described "sneaky cunt" his waiting till the survivors of the dead onslaught were celebrating themselves stupid as to be un-noticed is not unthinkable. The battle of Winterfell had the best fighters in the realms of man, battle hardened veterans of of the kingdom slugging it out to the bitter end and only the most skilled and or lucky seemed to survive. In real warfare luck has more to do with it but in a pinch plot armor will suffice - which is kind of a mercy in a show that continually killed off main characters to subvert genre I was actually yelling at the screen as Daenerys burned Euron''s fleet equipped with scorpion filled boats - I thought that was lazy writing when it seemed she faced far fewer ships when her other dragon was killed. That was crap. Otherwise I think things fell into place in such a way as not only possible but entirely inevitable. I wish I could buy you a drink or share some smoke and we could talk more about this. I do not begrudge your difference of opinion as I am satisfied with being satisfied and don't need to change your mind to make mine feel at ease. But I do like to argue with reasonable people and you seem to be one of them.
@@1ManNamedDan i dont mind most of the things happening in this season (except Jamies character arc) but i just think it should not have been so rushed. We should have had at least 20 episodes of s7&8. Then NK would not have been killed almost instantly after seven seasons of build up and most of the decisions made by the characters would be believable. And they would not need to make all their characters stupid for the sake of the plot
I don't think I cried at the Hodor moment the first time I watched it but for some reason I teared up this time. I think that is hands-down the saddest moment in the whole show
"Jon kills Dany" was one of the most predictable things in the season, maybe shocking but not surprising. In honorable mentions I would have put "Arya becoming blind" or "Myrcella's death"
1. NK proving to be not a threat 2. Bran becoming King. 3. Arya killing the NK 4. Cersei dying without proper punishment. 5. The Mountain proving harder to kill than the NK.
The look that Roose Bolton gives Catelyn when she discovers his chain armour is the best piece of acting in the whole series. It's GoT's entire spirit in one shot.
Like seriously... Night Watch was created in first place to pretect world from the Night King... he's no longer a threat. Later they forgot about that and protected North from wildlings... they are friends with them now. So seriously what's the point of sending Jon and others on the wall if they have no job to do there.
Initially it was obviously intended to protect from the clear threat, which would have been white walkers. After over a thousand years, and I bet you can't remember much information from that amount of time ago, the night's watch had become more of a protection from a current threat. This threat would have been wildlings, and the irony is that they initially would have been a part of the same people as those defending the wall, although facing much harsher circumstances. So at the point in the story in which we see, it is fair to assume that Jon would feel compelled to defend against (remember these are wildlings) the current threat. It just so happens the threat is larger, but that does not diminish the way it affects his character, and clearly the outcome of the show. Regardless of how you feel about the ending, I think Jon's character affecting the story in a way that does matter. That's why the Night's Watch does have a purpose. Sorry to rant but it's been a rough week, and I really needed something to think about, so hopefully you'll be able to keep up this conversation. Cheers my friend, and please keep an open mind in media in this divisive era
I never cried in any tv series i've watched until i saw the hold the door or HODOR scene. Jeez i was surprised with my tear drops! I will never forget that!
My top 11:(books or show) (In no order) 1. The death of Rhaego(Dany’s son) 2. The red wedding 3. Olenna murdered Joffrey 4. Lysa And Petyr murdered Jon Arryn 5. Arya kills the night king(pissed me off, I think the night king should’ve been the final villain of the series, and the person to kill him should’ve been Jon or Theon, but it still was pretty unexpected 6. Bran becomes king(Just like Night King’s death, pissed me off, what was the point of making Jon Targaryen if he didn’t take the throne. But just like the ending of battle of Winterfell, I was surprised) 7. Dany being the mad queen(Despite the foreshadowing, I didn’t see it coming. Maybe the major reason I didn’t see it coming was cause her development was not written well) 8. Quentyn releases the dragons(This one is only in the books, as Quentyn is not in the show. For those of u who r reading and haven’t reached the ending of book 5 yet, I won’t say anything 9. Jon is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Leanna Stark 10. The Baratheon kids r incest babies 11. Hold the door(I know I said that this list was in no particular order, but this is probably THE greatest twist. Unless u figured out that the words hold the door would end up important and that merged together made hodor, there is no way anyone could figure this twist out
GoT: Do you want a big twist? Jon snow is a targarian😎 Fans: Wow😲. So, jon's gonna become the king? GoT: No. He'll just return to the watch.😜 Fans: wtf😠
Nah, a lot of us thought it was gonna be arya. But in the end, what was the point of bringing arya to kl, suffer with the people and then do nothing lol?
I actually didn’t mind Arya killing the night king Because it was surprising but logically it should’ve been Jon especially after hardhome. Would’ve been much better if they fought him together with Arya striking the final blow which still fulfilled the prophecy. Brown eyes blue eyes green eyes. By the way which green eyes did she shut forever? 🤔
eric banks I hated Arya killing him, even kit and masie said it should have been Jon. That’d be like hodor killing Cersei. Jon and bran were the night King’s enemies, not Arya, and I think everyone was wanting a huge battle between Jon and nk
Number 1: Arya didn't kill Cersei. It's something that had been foreshadowed almost the entire series and basically the reason of her entire journey. Like seriously tho, now it feels like her entire story arc are just fillers.
The hate is strong. 80% of the below comments are mocking season 8 in truly unoriginal fashion. 10% are saying that some of the twists could be seen a mile away. 5% are saying that Jon killing Dani was visible a mile away. 3% are saying that the comment sections are toxic and unoriginal. The last 2% are remarking on a ground breaking show that always kept us guessing, and will truly be missed, despite the shortcomings of the finale. I’m in that little camp.
Actually, production quality didn't drop. In fact everything in Season 8 seemed to be at an all time high. Costume, acting, score, etc. Everything, except the writing. And that is a problem.
it all happened in the series finale 10. bronn is master of coin 09. drogon can critically think like a human 08. arya became a plot armor where vengeance doesn't kill the bearer 07. sansa survived 06. bran the broken, the 1st of his- im not even gonna finish it. 05. prisoner tyrion basically selected the next king and ended up becoming his hand 03. jaime's character assassination 02. daenrys' character assassination 01. aegon targary- i mean, jon's character assassination
How about the fact that Tyrion is immortal: 1. Survives the Vale 2. Survives Blackwater bay 3. Survives sword to face 4. Survives trial by combat Kings Landing 5. Survives killing Shae & Tywin 6. Survives being a slave 7. Survives meeting Dany 8. Survives the Harpy attacks 9. Survives Winterfell 10. Survives Dany mad queen 11. Survives grey Worm 12. Survives & becomes King’s Hand Show over and he’s the last Lannister standing , tallest Lannister, smartest Lannister, only Lannister
Jon killing Dany and Jon being a Targaryen, while definitely shocking, were something that a lot of people suspected though. I would make the list go something like this; 1. Red Wedding 2. Ned's Death 3. Hold the Door 4. Jon's "Death" 5. Cersei Blows up Sept 6. Jaime Pushes Bran out the Window 7. Oberyn's Death 8. Dany Receives Unsullied / Speaks Valyrian 9. Arya Kills Walder Frey 10. Arya Kills Night King (would've been higher had Melisandre not spelled it out for us) HM: -Dany has Dragons! -Jon = Targaryen -Sansa & Arya Kill Littlefinger -Hardhome
@@thokeJackass a twist is when the story takes an unexpected turn. Of course this is often a surprise, but a surprise covers more. (Like Arya killing the night king)
@@kornburg14 LUL no... that wasn't predicted, that was entirely fan service :( Having Arya kill the Night King using teleport is just that. Nothing more. :(
The biggest twist at all was when Benioff and Weiss murdered the entire series for Star Wars Money. It was very predictable, but I stupidly didn’t see it coming. You know, I was an idiot who thought that “Breaking Bad” meant that TV was getting better. Now I see that “Breaking Bad” was a once in a lifetime Fluke, like The Beatles. I never learn. 🤬
