he's the mcdavid of defencemen tbh. after mcdavid and matthews i think cale is the third best player overall in the league.

Playoff points: McDavid: 55 in 37, 21 goals, 2 GWG Makar: 60 in 55, 15 goals, 4 GWG, 1 cup, 1 conny Matthews 33 in 39, 17 goals, 5 GWG Makars a dman and has better numbers, its not close. He practically matched Matthews career playoff numbers on one playoff run, where they had 2 sweeps and lost 4 games. Same amount of points in pretty much half the games…

Even the worst NHL player is on totally different level. When I lived in Canada, I played pick up hockey with some ex NHL players and they truly are on another level. They were all retired players but even this old timer Ted Bulley who use to come out. He was a tough guy 4th liner in the 70s and 80s. But the way he skated and shot the puck was just different. He was freakin "dirty" too that old sob haha!! I played Junior but was never anywhere close to making even the ECHL lol but I use to be able to hold my own against that level in my younger days. Not vs NHL regulars tho not an effin chance.

@@jamesrally1440 same here. Have a couple buddies that played pro and it is truly another level. I've played against AAA, major juniors, college, etc., and because I'm fast (faster than most the NHL actually), I can keep up or at least get in the way. But the pros are something different. They don't need the speed or anything flashy to beat me when we're out there together, and they make it look easy. One of the guys played for the Colorado Eagles, and we had a discussion about the skills, speed, etc., and he said that is all necessary, but the knowledge is the number one aspect, and not just having the knowledge, but having it ingrained from early childhood because then it gives them insight into what is about to occur a quarter second to a second ahead of everyone else. I got skated around a few times, lol.

@@Xeteh mmmm yea clean hit, didn’t leave his skate altho he was on his way up, just unfortunately caught him right in the chin. Maybe players don’t keep their heads up as much as they used to nowadays cuz players like Scott Stevens don’t rly exist anymore, you don’t see hard hits too often.

@@Xeteh I don't think Staal suffered a concussion, maybe though? He left he ice immediately, probably protocol for seeing stars, but there was no news after that it appeared. But yeah, I also felt bad when it happened; always kinda liked Staal. As it was happening the first thing that came to my mind was, "he's hurt", but I also immediately thought that he of all players should know better than to get that relaxed while skating with the puck that close to an opponent.

his skating is so reminiscent of Crosby already. His stick handling is unreal and he is still young. Pens fan here but I can't wait to see him in his absolute prime. He's already an animal on the ice.

MacDavid is the best centre. Makar is the best defensmen.

Well, you can't really be happy when your captain gets hurt, I think it was not too long before playoffs aswell.

@@NovaRocket01 Not really hurt, more like shaken up, I remember him leaving the game after that hit, not quite sure if he missed any games after though.

Freddie Anderson got hurt in the same game, so can't really blame em

one of his biggest traits is loyalty (like how he said wait to the avs for a year or so after they drafted him and the whl team before that as well to stick with umass for a bit) so i'm kind of hoping he sticks around with colorado for his whole career honestly.

He just might! Sakic is quite the manager, and captain; he is very popular among the players (league-wide) and he and Makar both seem like they have that humble yet elite vibe. He's a perfect fit for the Avs right now. The dude is changing the game though and hopefully the Avs can find more players willing to play this style! Glad he's on our side!!

@@brandongiron1148i watched countless avs games in the regular season and the entire finals so I'm aware of how good he is maybe even has the potential to be the best but if your actually saying right now that he's the best player in the NHL that screams recency bias I I would rank Mcdavid, Matthews, Draisaitl ahead of him and it's a tossup between him in MacKinnon for 4th.

I think it speaks volumes. 🤔 and one thing cale seems to do is elevate the teams he plays on to win the top trophies... which is something none of those forwards (outside MacDaddy ovbiously) can say 🤷‍♂️ Eitherway Cale is clearly the best defenceman currently.

A large part of his success is his teams success. He's #2, behind McDavid of course. He's an unbelievable talent but McDavid has been McDavid since he entered the league... career season and playoff performance last year & doing things we haven't seen since the magnificent one.

Ohhh yeah! At every level! People that don't play may not understand how badass it was, because after he stopped and made his turn-and-burn on Dach, which was perfect on its own (Dach was not even out of position, at least not by more than 20cm or so... not a lot), he then had to play Fluery by still keeping his own options open for the pass for the backdoor play giving him just enough daylight to shoot at... with a backhand... and wow, just unreal! Even for an elite forward... yikes! Got to love it!!

That's just how these videos are. Anything else takes too much explanation, like how he created the goal scoring opportunity for which he received any of his assists, and I guess breaking up a dangerous scoring chance just isn't as much fun to watch as that goal against Chicago. (Which, BTW, will be in any career highlight reel when he retires and when he's inducted into the HHOF, perhaps as the top play like it has been for every video about him since he scored it.)

NHL teams are already doing that. The Avs did their homework and really scouted Cale. Avs waited 2 years for Cake to move to the NHL. The Avs didn't rush him, most teams do.

Actually it shows how great a player Makar is, beats both Dach and Fleury with his skating and stick handling. Dach will have his work cut out for him in Montreal and Cale will be continue to be the best D man around.

Difference here is cale knew he was making that move where dach needs time to react and by the time he reacts its too late

Matthews is more offensively talented, but he's a career choke artist so far. Kucherov has had some great seasons, but Makar had 86 points this season which would be the third best season of Kuch's career. Makar's 86 points would be a career high for Hedman who has been in the league for a decade. MacKinnon is a monster as well and is currently a better all around player, but Makar at his age is doing better than any of those players at this point in their careers. Makar is better and he makes Hedman look like a 2nd pair defenseman.
