Alfonso Ribeiro has been a professional dancer since he was a young child. He shouldn't be in this list at all. Even his Pepsi commercial at the age of 13 had him dancing next to Michael Jackson! Always a fan of his, but he doesn't fit the description of "Surprisingly Good Dancer". He's always been a good dancer! :-D

He is very very good, but I wonder if he hasn't actually been trained as a dancer? At least a little, maybe as part of his musical theatre background. And maybe learned some hip hop or breakdance, from the way he moves. He looks too good to be simply an amateur. Hiddleston or Rudd look like guys who have never really been taught how to dance but are just good at it and enjoy dancing. JGL looks like he knows what he's doing.

As is pointed out by others here, Alfonso Ribiero has been a professional dancer since he was a kid, even starring on Broadway in a show named The Tap Dance Kid. In this show he held his own with Tony winner Hinton Battle, and as an indicator of how good he was, when he left the show, he was replaced by Savion Glover! To anyone with any historical perspective (which, as I've pointed out frequently, you do not have) his dancing expertise is no surprise.

@@benjaminwagner8141 Yes, did a Pepsi commercial where he was dancing with Jackson, he put out dance instruction videos, starred as Tap Dance Kid on Broadway. He posed many times as a mini-Michael Jackson in the early 80's.

Most actors (in the UK and Australia, not sure about the US) take dance as part of their studies or found that they loved performing via dance. It not only makes them more versatile and so more likely to be employed in the early parts of their careers, it also helps with body language and awareness which is a big part of being a convincing actor. It's like how most actors have taken voice and/or singing as well, even if they don't have stellar singing voices it's important to be able to hold at least a semblence of a tune and to project and have good breath control.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised anymore when an actor can also dance, sing or play a musical instrument. It just comes with the territory. But it is surprising the first time you see them do something that you don't expect, especially when they do it so well. Recent example is Patrick Wilson singing a duet beautifully with Barbra Streisand - although I must admit I had no idea he was a Broadway veteran.

Sam Rockwell should of been #1. That man can dance. In Iron Man 2 they explained that he does dancing as a warm up to his scenes to get ready. The scene where he dances at the expo was him warming up and he didn't know they were rolling. They just kept it in because they loved it so much.
